The Wedding Ring Chapter 1 Part time Job

CHAPTER 1

Diane needs to be in a hurry. It's her first day at this part-time job that Jenny gave to her. She is going to clean an apartment. She has no idea who's living in that apartment. Either a family with a messy house or an old lady who needs someone to help her do the household chores, she's up to it.

Though she has a permanent job as a cashier in a café, Diane's first time doing a part-time cleaning and being hired for more than a month. She needs more extra income to save more money to go back home. She needs to hurry, she doesn't want to be late.

As soon as she reached the building, she gives her ID to the concierge and signs up on the logbook. She went to the elevator. While waiting for the elevator to go down, she checked the Jenny's message.

2909. The elevator opens then she pressed the 29th floor.

The building was clean, and you can see rich people live in this place. As soon as the elevator reached her destination, she finds room number 2909. She turned left, following the arrow in the corner with 1-10, while on the right side is 11-20. She quietly walked till she found the door in 2909.

"Here it is..." She took a deep breath. "I need to relax..." She prayed that the owner will be satisfied with her performance in cleaning their apartment, so she can come back again next time when they need her help.

After a few seconds, the door opened. Diane was surprised that it's a man who opened the door. The apartment was silent. You can only see empty bottles of wine on top of the center table, a wine glass, and an ashtray full of a cigarette butt. There was also a lighter and 2 boxes of cigarettes, one is empty, while the other one is already opened,

But the living room looks clean, with no clothes scattered everywhere.

"Hi sir, I'm Diane, your part-timer," she said with a plastered smile.

"Come in," the man said.

The living room wall is painted with a cream color. With gold curtains in a large window, a set of black leather couches with both ends have a small brown table with a lampshade on top in each and artificial plants beside it.

A wooden round table was also in the center, and underneath it is a brown carpet. There's an eighty-six inches smart TV attached to the wall, with a Multimedia Bluetooth Home Theater Speaker System on both sides.

When you turn left, it's the door going to the open kitchen. Next to it is a small guest bathroom. The right side of the kitchen is the laundry room.

"All the cleaning materials are in the laundry room," the man said and left.

Diane gently closed the door behind her. She looked at the broad shoulder of the man who just left after he opened the door for her.

He went inside the kitchen. He is wearing a plain white t-shirt and blue stripes, pajama pants. He's walking straight to the fridge. He took a bottle of water. He's a tall man. His face was round and shaved. His nose was pointed, and his lips are lush. He has a dimple on his chin, and I can see Adam's apple that makes him more remarkable. His Adams apples' movement looks so sexy while drinking the water like a TV advert model.

I didn't even notice that I bite my lower lips on this beautiful creature.

"Is there anything you want to ask?" Hearing this cold voice and seeing a pair of blue eyes looking at me makes me startled.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir." She stammered and quickly went to the laundry where the cleaning supplies were placed. I could feel my face warming from an embarrassment. He caught her staring at him. It's really embarrassing. I need to take a deep breath, relax let me go back to my senses.

"Oh, gosh! what's happening to me." It's so embarrassing. As if I have never seen a man before. This no makes sense. I need to focus on my work now before I go crazy on my wild imagination.

After cleaning the living room he called her, she was standing in front of him. "Miss Diane, tell me about yourself ?"

I was surprised by his sudden question. Did I do anything wrong? I was at the right age to work. What is the problem? Her heart and mind were in turmoil, but still, she cleared her throat before she responded.

"I am Diane Lopez, 22 years old, a cashier at bricks tone cafe."

"How much is your income?"

"Two thousand dollars a month."

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

"No..."

"Are you married?"

"Not yet, sir..."

What is this question? I came here just for a part-time job. What are these funny questions on my first day of work? I don't have a boyfriend since I was born. Never been touched and never been a kiss, she just said it to herself.

I will not deny that I have many suitors, but Adrian is the only one here in my heart. How is he now? I'm sure mommy is worried about me, especially when they find out that I ran away. It's all my dad's fault I wouldn't have left the house if it weren't for him.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

My five-year-old daughter was turning blue in my arms, her body rigid with a 104-degree fever. I called my billionaire husband, Clifton, dozens of times as I rushed to the hospital, but he declined every single call. While I was screaming at doctors and fighting to save our child’s life, a news alert flashed on my phone. Clifton was at the Met Gala, looking devastatingly handsome as he intimately draped his tuxedo jacket over the shoulders of his mistress, Eleanora. The nightmare didn't end at the hospital. Clifton used a secret clause in our prenup to snatch Lily from her bed and move her to a private facility without my consent. When I finally found her, my own daughter shrank away from me in terror. "Go away, bad Mommy!" she sobbed, while the mistress fed her oatmeal and whispered that I was the one who made the doctors hurt her. Clifton stood by and watched, telling me I was too "hysterical" to be a mother. But then I discovered the real reason they were hiding her. My husband was illegally using my late mother’s rare bone marrow samples to treat Eleanora’s secret blood disorder. Now that those samples are failing, he is taking Lily to a secluded castle in Germany to harvest our daughter’s marrow for his mistress. I sat in the dark, watching them play happy family with the child they plan to sacrifice. I realized then that my marriage wasn't just a lie—it was a biological harvest. They think I’m just a broken trophy wife who doesn't understand the science they are using to destroy me. They have no idea that I am "Ghost," the anonymous medical genius behind the very research they are trying to steal. As we board the private jet to Germany, I’ve stopped crying and started calculating. If they want to play with life and death, I’ll show them exactly what happens when a mother stops being a victim and starts being a predator.

For seven years, I drank the bitter tonic my fiancé, Alpha Adrian, gave me, believing it would cure my "wolfless" defect. I was wrong. It was poison. He wasn't trying to heal me; he was keeping me weak so he could replace me with my foster sister, Ariel. When the fire consumed the Alpha's Wing, I was trapped under a burning beam, my legs crushed. Adrian kicked down the door. I reached out to him, screaming for help. But he didn't look at me. He looked at Ariel, who was lying on the floor in a silk nightgown. He scooped her up, cradling her like she was the only thing that mattered. I begged him not to leave me. Instead of helping, he used his Alpha Command on me, his voice booming with supernatural weight. "Stay put! I'll be back for you!" It was a lie. He used his power to freeze me in the inferno and left me to burn alive. I survived, only to watch him publicly reject me for her the next day, with my own father's blessing. They called me a "genetic dead end." They thought I would crawl away and die in shame. I didn't. I limped up the mountain to the Neutral Lands to find the one man everyone fears-the exiled Alpha, Garth Morgan. "I have the Gamma Bloodline Scroll," I told the massive figure emerging from the shadows. "I don't want your gratitude," Garth growled, his eyes like storm clouds. "I'm not here for gratitude," I replied, staring him down. "I'm here to make a deal with the devil."

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
