Tia Keefe loves to write short stories online and sing. After graduating from the university, she was ready to achieve her dreams for her family but one day her band received a mysterious invite to a private island. It was an exclusive party for the city's upper class. What happens on the island will change her life forever as she falls for a guy who she thinks only exists in the stories she writes. Was it just her fantasy? What happens when you find love and lose it? Will the heart remember?

Chapter 1 The Party Invite

Tia was sitting on her desk. She just published a new short story online. She has a few loyal fans who always look up to her stories. She also earns a little bit of money out of it. She closed her laptop and took one last look around the room. Today was her last day in the dorm. She just graduated from Qing University.

Tia went out of the dorm with her suitcase and found her bandmates already waiting for her. The band has been around for 3 years and is quite popular in the university scenes. Tia is the second vocalist, Marcus is the lead vocals and guitars, there's also Jason on guitars, Wright on drums, and Sam on bass. Tia and Marcus met at freshmen night and instantly became friends. They had a shared interest in music. Sam was Tia's dorm mate while Jason and Wright were Marcus' classmates.

Tia worked part-time at a pub called, The Whiner. The rest of the guys would also hang out there especially during her shifts. One night a band that was supposed to play did not show up. Since the pub owner has heard Tia sing, she offered her another opportunity. She didn't want to do it on her own and decided to tell Marcus about it. They tried to play one night at the pub and realized how much they loved it. They then decided to officially become a band.

Outside her dorm.

Jason helped Tia load her suitcase into Marcus' Jeep. When everyone was already inside, Marcus announced, "We got an urgent gig request for a private party on an island."

"We never do private parties." Sam was confused looking at everyone. They always performed at music festivals, university nights, and at the pubs near the uni belt.

"The sponsor offered a huge fee. I thought we could give it a try." Marcus explained. Everyone knew that Tia needed money right now as her brother is currently sick. She has worked multiple part-time jobs while they were still in the university to save money for the surgery.

"Urgent? When and where is this?" Wright asked.

"It's on Hainan Private Island. I've got ferry tickets for 2 PM later." Marcus answered. It was just about lunchtime.

"Isn't that a high-class resort?" Sam was shocked.

"Must be some upper-class party." Jason smiled playfully at Wright.

"It's overnight accommodation. All fees paid by the sponsor so we get the talent fee clean." Marcus assured everyone.

"Well, there's always a first." Tia sighed. She was also not sure about it but if there's an opportunity she doesn't want to miss it.

They grabbed lunch at the Burger Joint across the university before heading out to the port. Tia dreaded this trip because she easily gets seasick but she needed the money so she had to endure it.

Tia made a quick call to her aunt informing her that instead of arriving today she will need to be out of town for a gig. Her parents had died in an accident so she was left to take care of her brother. Good thing her parents had insurance money for her studies that is why she worked hard to graduate so she can fulfill her parents' wish and at the same time take care of her brother.

At the airport.

Kyle's plane has just landed. It has been 5 years since he left this city. He stayed in London to study Business at Oxford University and at the same time manage the family business there. He left this city with a heavy heart and if not for his family, he wouldn't want to come back here.

Upon walking out of the Arrival gate, people couldn't stop looking at this very attractive man. He was very tall and had a well-toned body. He had chiseled jaws and deep-set eyes but his face looked so cold that people would be scared looking at his eyes.

Zane, Moore, and Brandon are Kyle's closest friends. They have known each other since they were kids. They have always tried to persuade him to come back so when they heard that he was coming. They had to be there.

"Welcome back, brother!" Zane greeted Kyle. They are blood cousins but they are like brothers since they were about the same age. They grew up together and were only apart when Kyle had to go abroad.

"Come on. Let's go!" Moore dragged his arm heading back to another runway.

"Where are we going?" Kyle looked at him coldly.

"It's Moore's idea." Brandon patted Kyle's shoulder with an apologetic smile.

"Don't worry. I already called your parents and they know." Zane quickly assured Kyle.

"I'm tired from a long flight." Kyle sighed but he still followed them to Moore's private plane. He thought it must be one of his private parties.

It was just a short flight. Moore Gu is the heir to the Gu Hotels and Resorts, this island was one of their high luxury resorts. They checked into their rooms and Kyle decided to rest for a bit. He also made a quick phone call to his parents to inform them about his whereabouts.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.
