Chapter 1 A Paranoid Woman (Part One)

The night was deep, like a black veil draped over the villa.

Half asleep and half awake, Lorna Xia felt that someone was touching her body.

'Did Dalton lose his patience?'

With a sweet smile on Lorna Xia's face, she touched the pillow with her soft hand subconsciously.

Since she and Dalton Xiao got the marriage certificate and moved into the wedding room, they had slept together for three days.

But their wedding was about to be held in less than a week. She wanted to keep her virgin until the wedding night.

"Honey, stop it." Turning her body to dodge, Lorna Xia said in a sleepy voice.

It seemed that she had fallen into an abyss in a nightmare. As soon as she finished her words, Lorna Xia suddenly felt a chill all over her body.

As her heart sank, she suddenly woke up from her sleep.

The caress disappeared, but Dalton Xiao wasn't with her.

'Was it an illusion? Or did someone else touch me?'

All of a sudden, Lorna Xia opened her eyes and turned around to find a figure standing by the bed in the darkness.

"Ah! Who are you?!"

The sudden fright made her cry out and her heart hanging in the air.

"Who is there? What do you want?"

Lorna Xia couldn't see the man's face clearly in the darkness. Suppressing the fear in her heart, she pretended to ask calmly.

The man standing by the bed didn't make any sound. Seeing that Lorna Xia had woken up from her dream, he suddenly pounced on her.

"Help! Help!"

Once again, Lorna Xia was grabbed by that pair of big hands. She screamed and struggled in horror and powerlessly, and her shrill cry for help broke through the silent night.

"Dalton... Where are you? Help! I need you!" Lorna Xia kept shouting loudly.

But as time passed, there was still no response to her cry.

While struggling, Lorna Xia suddenly touched the eyebrow razor on the bedside table. Frightened and humiliated, she picked up her only weapon to resist.

"Ouch! You hurt me, bitch!"

The razor pierced the man's neck and skin. He growled in pain and then let go of Lorna Xia's body and ran away.

The bedroom door was half open, and the night fell into silence again.

Frightened, Lorna Xia curled up and sat on the edge of the bed, shivering.

The man who molested her just now sounded familiar, but she couldn't figure out who he was.

And where did Dalton Xiao go? Why wasn't he at home?

Unable to find an answer, Lorna Xia decided to get out of bed to look for Dalton Xiao. However, just as she moved her body, a sound of footsteps from afar to the bedroom came.

She was even more scared. Sitting on the bed, she didn't dare to move and almost stopped breathing. She prepared to take the eyebrow razor again.

But before she could do anything, she heard a loud noise. The bedroom was ablaze with lights.

"Dalton! You're back at last! Where have you been? I'm worried about you!"

At the first sight of the tall man, Dalton Xiao, standing at the door, Lorna Xia rushed forward with joy.

However, what she held was a colder body, dignified and stiff, without any emotion.

It was not until then that Lorna Xia noticed that there were three people standing behind Dalton Xiao.

Two of them wore white coats, looking like doctors.

The other woman was very familiar to Lorna Xia. She was her stepmother, Marie Yu.

With these thoughts in her mind, Lorna Xia slowly straightened up and inexplicably looked at Dalton Xiao, whose face was gloomy and ferocious.

"Dalton, why did you take them home?"

At this moment, Lorna Xia was extremely shocked. She didn't know the two strange men, and the sudden appearance of her stepmother made her even more confused.

Since her father died in a car accident a year ago, her stepmother went back to her own parents' home not long after. When did she come back?

Lorna Xia's doubts were interrupted in the middle of her words. With a frown, Dalton Xiao said to her calmly, "Lorna, your paranoia is getting worse and worse. I have to find the doctor at midnight. These two are the doctors. They are here to help you."

"Paranoia? He said I'm a paranoia?"

With her eyes wide open, Lorna Xia couldn't understand what her fiance was talking about.

At this time, her stepmother, who had been silent by the door, suddenly said, "Lorna, don't you know that you have this kind of disease? Dalton was worried about you, so he told me about it. I came to see you through the night. Are you feeling better now? Don't worry, the doctors are here to help you."

Hearing this, Lorna Xia was completely confused. Although she had been bullied since childhood, she had always been very healthy under the protection of her father. Why did they say she was a paranoia?

"I...I'm not paranoid. What are you talking about?" Feeling confused, Lorna Xia touched her head and didn't know how to explain it.

"Miss Xia, according to Mr. Xiao, you often have auditory hallucination and visual hallucination recently. You often shout at midnight that someone is touching you."

Hearing Lorna Xia's words, the doctor told her straightforwardly about her condition.

The doctor's words made Lorna Xia flabbergasted. She suddenly remembered the man who wanted to sleep with her in the darkness.

She frowned and explained to the doctor in a hurry, "No, doctor. There is indeed someone who molested me. Just now, I was sleeping and suddenly woke up by someone. Later, I stabbed him with a razor!"

With a heavy sigh, Dalton Xiao looked at the doctor and said helplessly, "Doctor Feng, my fiancee has been like this every night recently. She always has this illusion. No matter how I comfort her, it's useless to explain to her. So I have no choice but to find you."

"No, Dalton. It's not an illusion! Look at the blood on the razor! It's real! Trust me."

Lorna Xia ran to the bedside and picked up the knife with blood on it.

But she didn't expect that this action would bring her disaster.

"Miss Xia, what are you doing?! Calm down! Don't do anything stupid! The man you said is not here. You are safe now, so put the knife down, okay?"

I returned to the city for the only person who ever truly loved me—my dying grandfather. As the "forgettable" daughter of the wealthy Clemons family, I had spent years hiding my true identity as a world-class elite behind oversized hoodies and a silent, exhausted demeanor. But the welcome home was a nightmare. My family made it clear I was nothing more than a parasite, unaware that I had just saved a powerful stranger's life on the train or that I was the silent partner of the very club they were visiting. While they sipped champagne in a VIP penthouse I had secretly upgraded for them, they left me standing outside in a freezing downpour for hours. My cousin Belle recorded me, laughing as she called me a "drowned rat" for her social media followers. My father, Glyn, even sent me a formal notice revoking my access to the family trust, thinking he was cutting off my only means of survival. He had no idea my private bank account held eighty-five million dollars. The betrayal cut even deeper when I discovered the darkest truth: they were swapping my grandfather’s life-saving medication for cheap generics just to pocket the extra cash. I stood in the mud, watching the people who shared my DNA celebrate their greed while they slowly killed the man who raised me. How could they be so blind? How could they treat me like trash while they lived off the crumbs of my secret success? "Enjoy it while it lasts," I whispered against the cold glass. I was done playing the victim and done hiding in the shadows to protect their fragile egos. I pulled out my encrypted phone and dialed my head of security. As an armored Range Rover pulled up to the curb and the city’s most dangerous man watched me from the shadows, I realized I was done being the "charity case." It was time to show the Clemons family who really owned this city.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.
