Peter, who she once lost her heart to, had been Lily's nightmare for the past five years. The day he broke up with her, she managed to nod calmly, say goodbye politely, and walk away from him forever. A part of her was dead by then. However, he came back to her and sealed her unspoken grievance with a passionate kiss. He would try his best to heal her broken heart with deep love. No matter what it would cost, he had made up his mind. She belonged to him and nobody could change that very fact.

Occupy Your Heart And Love Chapter 1 Wishful Thinking

In the quiet and empty corridor of the hospital, the cracked floor tiles shone under the dazzling ceiling light.

The silence was broken by the door being pushed open. Urgent footsteps came from the half-opened door with a gust of cold wind, which seemed to make the rows of pale lights sway.

Sweat trickled down Lily Gu's forehead. She was out of breath. As her hand supporting the gurney slipped, she fell heavily to the ground.

Her toes were bloody as she didn't realize when the shoe on one of her feet had disappeared. Her wounds were caked in mud. She had endured the pain for so long that she had become numb.

A nurse came running towards her and helped her up. "Are you all right, Dr. Lily?" Lily Gu pushed her away fiercely!

Her eyes were as red as a manic rabbit. Biting her lower lip, she looked at the nurse and yelled, "Forget about me! Take my father to the emergency room. Hurry up!"

The nurse nodded in panic. After hesitating for a while, she pushed the gurney away, leaving Lily Gu behind her.

With her hands on her knees, Lily Gu lowered her head and her hair fell over her face, concealing her expression. The only sign of her distress was her quivering shoulders, which, in turn, made her hair shake as well.

"Dad...,"

she murmured. Her nose twitched. The tears that she had been imprisoned in her eyes for a long time finally poured out like a flood.

She thought she was a very terrible daughter.

It was true.

Her father did not understand her and forced her to take over the family business, but that was no reason for her to say those vicious words to him.

Absolutely not.

He was her father, after all! They depended on each other.

Lily Gu didn't come to her senses until the nurse came back to her.

"Dr. Lily? Oh my God! Why are you still sitting on the ground! Get up. Mr. Jacob has been taken to the operating room. He will be fine!" With her help, Lily Gu slowly sat on the chair in the corridor.

Her face was as pale as the light above her.

She moved her lips and said hoarsely, "My father... Will he be okay?"

"Of course! Mr. Jacob has such an excellent doctor as her daughter. God will bless him! Dr. Lily, you have hold on for him right now, okay?"

Lily Gu nodded and suddenly felt a lump in her throat.

'An excellent doctor?' she thought to herself.

Yes, she was very good at her profession. Many patients' families specially asked for her to perform operations as she had a reputation for pulling back dying patients from the clutches of death. That sense of accomplishment was incomparable to anything.

However, her father never shared their opinion nor did he feel proud of having a daughter who was a doctor.

For him, she was born to take over the huge YS Group in the future and she had no say in the matter.

Leaning against the back of the chair, Lily Gu gently rubbed her eyebrows with her fingers, but the wrinkles on her forehead could not be smoothed.

She was very tired.

She knew very well that she had to make a choice between the hospital and the company. This caused a lot of conflict between the father and daughter. If it went on like this, she would end up sending her father to his grave with the stress.

The nurse held her hand and kept her company.

By the time the operation ended, Lily Gu had fallen asleep on the nurse's shoulder. Suddenly, she felt something warm wrapped around her and then opened her eyes in a trance.

"Dr. Joe..." rubbing her sore eyes, she murmured to the man, who was bent over, about to drape a coat over her frail figure.

Joe Zhou stood up awkwardly and coughed self-consciously. "You can sleep in my duty room. It's cold out here. If you catch a cold, I will have to treat you."

Seeing him, the nurse smiled knowingly and sneaked away.

Lily Gu casually lifted his coat, stood up gingerly with the help of a chair, and handed it back to Joe Zhou. "Come on. Are you so kind as to treat me? You have been teasing me all day long. Do you still care about me?"

Hearing this, Joe Zhou frowned and said in an aggrieved tone, "Lily, do you have any conscience? We are both pitiful people who share the same problem. When did I tease you? Anyway, I won't quarrel with you. What happened to Mr. Jacob? Did you piss him off?"

Lily Gu rolled her eyes at him and said nothing.

"Oh, you really did piss him off?" Joe Zhou was just pulling her leg. He didn't expect his guess to hit the mark. Lowering his head, he said, "Actually, I admire you very much. When I told my father that I wanted to be a doctor and wouldn't take over the company, he didn't argue with me at all and went straight to the duster. Well, well, Lily. You are something."

She was at a loss for words so she punched him lightly on the shoulder.

"Don't talk nonsense. Don't you see how anxious I am?"

Joe Zhou patted her on the back and said, "It's okay. Don't worry. I just went to the operating room to check. It's not a big deal."

Hearing this, Lily Gu breathed a sigh of relief. She put one hand on her forehead and closed her swollen eyes, offering a silent prayer of thanks.

Just then, a figure stormed into the hospital like a whirlwind and before anybody could react, a light flashed in Lily Gu's eyes.

Crack!

Lily Gu staggered from the force of the slap. If it hadn't been for Joe Zhou's quick response and agile actions, she would have fallen on the ground.

Holding her in his arms, he looked at the woman in front of him angrily. "What the hell are you doing?" How could she hit a doctor in a hospital? The mystery figure laughed sardonically and stared at Lily with venom dripping from her eyes.

Gritting her teeth, the woman screamed, "You shameless bastard! You have caused so much stress to your father that you sent him to the hospital and now here you are flirting with this man! Aren't you afraid that your father won't get up from the bed?" Red-hot rage coursed through Joe Zhou's body at this accusation.

He stepped forward to put this nasty figure in place but was stopped by Lily.

Covering the half of her face, which had been slapped red, she clenched her fist. Narrowing her eyes, she remarked snidely, "You have finally shown your true colors, haven't you? Don't think that I don't know what you are planning. You want to steal my father's property, don't you? If there is such easy money to be made, why would anybody need to work hard? Do you agree, Mom?"

The frantic beeping of the heart monitor was the only sound as my son, Leo, struggled for every breath. Anaphylactic shock, the doctors said. A severe, unexpected allergic reaction. My world reeled as the nurse cried, "We need O-negative blood, now! The blood bank is running low." Just as despair threatened to swallow me, my friend Chloe stepped forward. "I'm O-negative. Take my blood. Take as much as you need." Relief washed over me, a gratitude so immense it felt like pain. Hours later, with Leo sleeping peacefully thanks to Chloe' s heroic act, Liam, my husband, praised her as a "selfless hero." But then, I overheard Chloe's voice, cold and sharp, "I had to prick the little brat with that bee stinger. And I had to make sure he ate the crushed nuts. It was a mess, Liam." My hand froze on the faucet. Liam' s voice, low and intimate, soothed her. "Now everyone sees you as a hero. The perfect, caring woman. We just need to wait a little longer." Chloe whined, "I'm tired of watching her play mother to my son. I want my life back. I want our life back." My son. The words slammed into me, shattering my reality. He said it again: "Our son." My entire marriage was a meticulously crafted lie, a cage adorned to look like a home. Every loving glance, every tender touch, every shared laugh – a performance. I wasn't a wife; I was a placeholder. I wasn't a mother; I was a nanny. My sweet Leo, a prop in their cruel play. Liam was building a family, a life, not with me, but with her. I was just the convenient, naive stepping stone. My blood ran cold. I wasn't just heartbroken; I was a pawn in an elaborate, sinister game. With trembling hands, I pulled out my phone and pressed record. I needed proof. I needed a record of this monstrosity.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.
