Rejected by My Fiancé, Chosen by the Biker King Chapter 1 Rejected in Front of Everyone

Sophia Pov

The crystal chandeliers of the Grand Plaza Hotel ballroom blurred into a blinding haze of gold.

I clutched the lace skirt of my cream dress, my heart hammering against my ribs from sheer excitement.

Today was the day. After three years of dating Ethan Sullivan, the billionaire heir to the Sullivan empire, we were finally going to announce our wedding date to the upper crust of Los Angeles high society.

"You look beautiful, Sophia," my best friend, Vanessa, whispered beside me. She smoothed down her form-fitting red dress, her smile radiant.

But I was too giddy to notice the strange edge to it.

"Thank you for being here, Van," I said, squeezing her hand. "I couldn't do this without you."

"Oh, I wouldn't miss it for the world," she replied. Her eyes glinted with an emotion I couldn't quite place.

Up on the raised stage, Ethan stepped up to the microphone. He looked handsome in his tailored tuxedo, his dark hair perfectly coiffed.

When his gaze swept over the crowd, a commanding silence fell over the room.

Hundreds of influential business tycoons, celebrities, and socialites turned their undivided attention to him.

My chest swelled with pride. I took a step toward the stage, waiting for him to call me up so we could make the announcement together.

"Good afternoon, everyone," Ethan's deep baritone echoed through the speakers.

"Thank you for joining the Sullivan and Carter families today. But before we begin, there is a correction that needs to be made regarding the purpose of this banquet."

I paused, my foot hovering. A faint murmur rippled through the crowd.

Ethan's cold, grey eyes finally locked onto mine. A detached disdain that made my blood run cold.

"Three years ago, an arrangement was made between our families," Ethan continued, his voice steady and completely devoid of remorse.

"But a marriage cannot thrive on obligation alone. Therefore, I am officially announcing that my engagement to Sophia Carter is over."

The room gasped collectively.

The air was violently sucked from my lungs. The itinerary in my hand slipped, the crisp papers scattering across the polished floor.

"Ethan?" I whispered, though the word choked in my throat.

"And further," Ethan said, raising a hand to silence the sudden outbreak of whispers.

He turned his head toward the side of the stage. "I want to introduce the woman who actually holds my heart. The future Mrs. Sullivan. Vanessa, please come up."

My head snapped toward Vanessa.

The girl I had shared my deepest secrets with, the woman I considered a sister, didn't look shocked.

She didn't look remorseful. She offered the crowd a demure, tragic smile and stepped past me, her red heels clicking sharply against the floor.

She walked right into Ethan's open arm. He pulled her flush against his side, his grip possessive.

"Vanessa and I have been secretly together for months," Ethan declared into the microphone, his eyes drilling into mine.

"We tried to fight our feelings out of respect for the existing arrangement, but true love cannot be denied."

While she was helping me look at bridal magazines, she was sleeping with my fiancé.

While I was comforting her over her fake breakup stories, she was wrapping herself around the man I loved.

"Ethan, how could you do this?" I finally found my voice, taking a desperate step toward the stage.

The eyes of every billionaire and socialite in LA burned into my back. "In front of everyone? Why?"

Ethan looked down at me from the stage as if I were dirt beneath his expensive leather shoes.

He scoffed, the sound dripping with malice.

"Look at yourself, Sophia," he said, not even bothering to use the microphone anymore, yet his words cut through the dead silence of the room.

"You are predictable, utterly boring. You spent three years hovering in my shadow, acting like a pristine, fragile porcelain doll. A man in my position needs a woman with fire, passion, and ambition. Vanessa has that. You? You are entirely unworthy of the Sullivan name."

Vanessa leaned into his chest, looking up at him with faux adoration. But as her gaze flicked to me over his shoulder, a cruel, victorious smirk flashed across her lips.

The humiliation was a physical blow. Tears stung the backs of my eyes, blinding me.

Suddenly, a chorus of sharp pings and buzzes echoed through the ballroom. Dozens of phones lit up simultaneously.

"Oh my god, look at this," someone whispered loudly behind me.

"It's already trending. 'Sullivan Billionaire Dumps Boring Fiancée On Stage.'"

I grabbed my own phone from my clutch. My screen was flooded with notifications. Videos of Ethan's speech were already circulating on social media, filmed by the very guests in this room.

The captions were mocking my frozen, devastated expression.

"Sophia!"

A harsh grip clamped onto my upper arm, spinning me around. It was my stepmother, Helen, her face twisted in a mask of fury. My father stood right behind her, his expression thunderous.

"You useless girl," Helen hissed, her voice a lethal whisper so the nearby guests wouldn't hear. "How could you let him slip away? Do you have any idea what this public rejection will do to our family's stock prices tomorrow morning?"

"Helen, please..." I choked out, a tear finally spilling down my cheek. "He betrayed me. Even Vanessa betrayed me."

"Because you couldn't keep him interested!" my father barked, his voice devoid of any paternal warmth.

"You had one job, Sophia. To secure the Sullivan alliance. Instead, you've made our entire family a laughingstock. Get out of our sight."

I looked around the room. The people I had known my entire life were staring, whispering behind their hands, laughing at my expense.

Near the front, I caught sight of Vanessa subtly tapping on her phone. She was typing a message to a known celebrity blogger, a smug smile on her face.

She was paying them off to ensure the narrative completely destroyed my reputation before I could even leave the building.

The walls were closing in. I couldn't breathe.

Turning on my heel, I hoisted the skirt of my dress and ran.

"Sophia! Comment on the breakup!"

The moment I burst through the double doors of the ballroom, I was met with a wall of flashing lights.

The news had traveled faster than wildfire. Reporters and paparazzi had already swarmed the luxury hotel lobby, their cameras shoved into my face.

"Is it true Ethan Sullivan left you for your best friend?"

"Are the Carters facing bankruptcy after this?"

"Did you know about the affair, Sophia?"

I didn't answer. I pushed through the security guards, blinded by the flashes and my own tears.

I stumbled through the side exit of the hotel, desperately seeking an escape from the suffocating nightmare.

The warm spring air hit my face, but I felt completely frozen. The sun was shining brightly, a mockery of the darkness tearing my chest apart.

I ran down the concrete steps, sobbing openly now, wanting nothing more than to disappear.

I didn't look where I was going. I didn't care. I just needed to run.

I stepped off the curb, lunging straight out into the middle of the busy, multi-lane boulevard.

Suddenly, a deafening, thunderous roar tore through the air.

The ground beneath my heels literally vibrated. The sharp, aggressive screech of burning rubber sliced through the sounds of my sobbing.

My head snapped to the left.

Through a veil of tears, I saw a massive, terrifying convoy of blacked-out motorcycles tearing down the street.

They were riding in a tight, military-like formation, cutting through traffic like a dark plague.

At the very front was a beast of a machine, entirely matte black, and astride it was a man built like a mountain, wearing a leather cut over a dark hoodie.

I froze in his direct path.

The lead motorcycle skidded, the heavy frame tilting dangerously as the rider slammed on the brakes.

The roar of the engine screamed in my ears, and the smell of hot road and gasoline filled my senses.

Through the dark, tinted visor of his helmet, I felt a pair of piercing, predatory eyes lock onto mine.

I couldn't move or breathe. And the heavy steel machine was hurtling straight toward me.
