On the eve of the wedding, I accidentally touched the dashcam in the car of my fiancé, Tobias Ford. I heard his heavy breathing, and His bare back dominated the screen. I blushed instantly. He and I both enjoyed the thrill and often had sex in the car, so I felt a bit embarrassed to watch the replay. But the next moment, I froze. A female voice, not mine, rang out. "Honey, how much longer do we have to put up with that silly woman? I'm pregnant now." Tobias said with a chuckle, "As soon as the wedding is over and I trick her into handing over her family's assets, I will divorce her. I've already transferred her apartment to me. She plans to live there with me after we get married. It'll be our home from now on." As the scene intensified, the woman hidden in his embrace finally showed her face. It was my best friend, Stacey Sanderson. They were holding hands and wearing the matching rings I'd picked out. The timestamp in the corner showed it was the evening of two days ago.

Chapter 1

On the eve of the wedding, I accidentally touched the dashcam in the car of my fiancé, Tobias Ford.

I heard his heavy breathing, and his bare back dominated the screen.

I blushed instantly.

He and I both enjoyed the thrill and often had sex in the car, so I felt a bit embarrassed to watch the replay.

But the next moment, I froze.

A female voice, not mine, rang out. "Honey, how much longer do we have to put up with that silly woman? I'm pregnant now."

Tobias said with a chuckle, "As soon as the wedding is over and I trick her into handing over her family's assets, I will divorce her. I've already transferred her apartment to me. She plans to live there with me after we get married. It'll be our home from now on."

As the scene intensified, the woman hidden in his embrace finally showed her face.

It was my best friend, Stacey Sanderson.

They were holding hands and wearing the matching rings I'd picked out.

The timestamp in the corner showed it was the evening of two days ago.

The video continued.

I heard their sporadic moans, and my fingertips grew cold as I stared at the screen.

I desperately recalled what had happened during the past five years.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

How was this possible?

Tobias and Stacey had never gotten along since they knew each other.

The first time they met, Stacey spilled a glass of red wine all over Tobias. "Are you the guy who dates Effie? You are not good enough for her."

She snapped, pointing at his nose, "You'd better cherish Effie. She is like my little princess. Or I'll make sure you regret it!"

Tobias rolled his eyes instantly.

He ignored my awkward expression and called Stacey kind of mannish.

During the five years, they never missed an opportunity to bicker whenever they met.

But now, Stacey was wearing the diamond ring that Tobias promised to buy me once he saved enough money.

My hand trembled as I made a video call to him.

It was picked up immediately.

"Honey." Tobias's attractive face appeared on the screen. His gaze was so tender that it could melt my heart.

The background was a dimly lit and noisy karaoke room.

He spun the camera around, and his friends waved at me. "Are you checking up on us, Effie?"

His friends greeted me on the camera.

"Don't worry. It's the last night of the bachelor party for Tobias. We're keeping an eye on him. He didn't do anything bad. He only has eyes for you. You don't have to worry."

His friends teased, and Tobias smiled indulgently. His cheeks were slightly flushed. "Honey, are you missing me? I'll be home soon."

He leaned closer to the camera, and his voice was deep and magnetic. He acted just like the countless nights he'd comforted me.

I stared into his eyes for a moment before saying, "Stacey seems to have gained some weight recently. I wonder if the bridesmaid dress will still fit."

Tobias paused for a short moment and frowned instantly. "Why do you bring up that mannish woman? She's always been a troublemaker."

The disdain in his eyes seemed genuine. "I'll bring your favorite midnight snack when I get back. It won't be long."

His friends teased him on his end.

Then the screen went black, and the call ended.

Even in the final moment, Tobias's expression was so natural and flawless.

If it weren't for the dashcam replay, I would have trusted him.

My gaze fixed, and I was dumbfounded.

On the passenger seat, a smudged footprint was starkly imprinted on the inside of the windshield.

I stared at the footprint, and I imagined what had happened in the car.

They might recline the passenger seat far back.

He might have thrust her and leaned down to nibble at her earlobe as he had sex with me...

On the leather seat, there were faint scratch marks from fingernails.

The moans looped in the background. Everything seemed to be provoking me.

My fingers turned pale from gripping so hard.

The scene made me feel nauseous.

I had thought everything was fine with my life. But now, for the first time, I understood what it meant to feel heartbroken and despondent.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
