As the New Year's dinner concluded and we prepared to leave, Miranda Wells, the manager, blocked my path and forced me to pay the bill. I firmly refused, but Miranda was tough. "I am doing you a favor by asking you to pay the bill! Who in this country would dare to defy anyone from the Harris family? Do you have a death wish?" She sneered, rolling up her sleeves and pointing at me before I spoke. "Do you know who I am? Nikolas Harris, the CEO of the Harris Group, is my husband! I am Mrs. Harris!" I was stunned. I was married to Nikolas, so why was Miranda claiming to be his wife? In the next moment, I called Nikolas at the spot. "Why am I unaware that you have another wife?"

The CEO Went Bankrupt After His Mistress Humiliated his Wife Chapter 1

As the New Year's dinner concluded and we prepared to leave, Miranda Wells, the manager, blocked my path and forced me to pay the bill.

I firmly refused, but Miranda was tough. "I am doing you a favor by asking you to pay the bill! Who in this country would dare to defy anyone from the Harris family? Do you have a death wish?"

She sneered, rolling up her sleeves and pointing at me before I spoke. "Do you know who I am? Nikolas Harris, the CEO of the Harris Group, is my husband! I am Mrs. Harris!"

I was stunned. I was married to Nikolas, so why was Miranda claiming to be his wife?

In the next moment, I called Nikolas at the spot. "Why am I unaware that you have another wife?"

...

As soon as I hung up, Miranda flew into a rage.

"Bang!" She grabbed a stick and struck me. "Still dare to make calls? Believe it or not, I'll have you carried out of here!"

"How dare you!" My best friend, Yana Fowler, stepped forward and shielded me. "Is this how someone from the Harris Group behaves? You bully others with your power and even resort to violence."

"I am Mrs. Harris, and I am offering you a privilege to ask you to pay the bill. Don't be ungrateful. Are you trying to reason with me? My words are law!"

I scoffed and glanced at Miranda. "No matter how powerful the Harris Group is, it hasn't taught you extortion, has it?"

Miranda raised her eyebrows, took a cigarette from a nearby subordinate, and lit it. She looked like a female gangster. "I'm giving you a chance to maintain your dignity by letting you pay the bill. In Caelton, countless people plead with me, and I couldn't care less."

So did she try to maintain my dignity?

None of the Shaw family ever needed to beg for such opportunities in Caelton.

I glanced at Yana, who looked grim.

She was a woman from a prominent family in Osrebens and probably hadn't expected to be humiliated by a mere manager in Caelton.

"You two idiots, what I say goes in Caelton!" She then turned to her bodyguards. "Teach these two blind women a lesson!"

Instantly, a dozen bodyguards dressed in black filed in and encircled us.

Yana immediately stood in front of me and fought back.

But we were outnumbered, and she was soon subdued by a bodyguard attacking from behind.

"Yana!" I tried to rush over, but a stick hit my abdomen. I instantly felt dizzy.

As I struggled, I saw Yana cursing as she fought back.

"Bang!" The next second, a bottle smashed against my head, and blood trickled down my cheek.

A bodyguard pinned me to the floor and made me watch helplessly as Miranda thrust a lit cigarette into Yana's mouth. Miranda continued her tirade. "Dare to defy me? You'll learn your lesson today. The Harris Group is not to be trifled with."

Yana was force-fed an entire bottle of whiskey. She looked so miserable.

She had merely come for the New Year's gathering, yet found herself embroiled in this disaster, although she didn't do anything wrong.

I said sternly, "Miranda, I am Nikolas's wife, Rita Shaw." I pointed painfully at Yana and continued, "She is Yana Fowler, the daughter of a prominent family from Osrebens. You can still make amends if you apologize to us now!"

As my words fell, Miranda paused with the bottle in hand. Then she let out a piercing laugh. "You are Nikolas's wife, the daughter of the Shaw family? You both must be delusional!"

Her subordinates nearby laughed wildly, and even tears streamed down their faces. "Everyone in Caelton knows Miranda is Mrs. Harris. You two young women are really looking for trouble. How dare you say that? We've never heard of the Shaw family or Osrebens. If you're going to lie, at least make it believable."

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
