Nicole had entered marriage with Walter, a man who never returned her feelings, bound to him through an arrangement made by their families rather than by choice. Even so, she had held onto the quiet belief that time might soften his heart and that one day he would learn to love her. However, that day never came. Instead, he treated her with constant contempt, tearing her down with cruel words and dismissing her as fat and manipulative whenever it suited him. After two years of a cold and distant marriage, Walter demanded a divorce, delivering his decision in the most degrading manner he could manage. Stripped of her dignity and exhausted by the humiliation, Nicole agreed to her friend Brenda's plan to make him see what he had lost. The idea was simple but daring. She would use another man to prove that the woman Walter had mocked and insulted could still be desired by someone else. All they had to do was hire a gigolo. Patrick had endured one romantic disappointment after another. Every woman he had been involved with had been drawn not to him, but to his wealth. As one of the heirs to a powerful and influential family, he had long accepted that this pattern was almost unavoidable. What Patrick wanted was far more difficult to find. He longed to fall in love with a woman who cared for him as a person, not for the name he carried or the fortune attached to it. One night, while he was at a bar, an attractive stranger approached him. Because of his appearance and composed demeanor, she mistook him for a gigolo. She made an unconventional proposal, one that immediately caught his interest and proved impossible for him to refuse.

The Curvy Ex-Wife's Revenge: The Divorce He Gave, The Regret He Earned Chapter 1 Congratulations

Could anyone have been happier? Nicole radiated joy wherever she went, all because her father had just shared news that, for her, felt like a dream come true.

The Matthew and Gibson families had struck an agreement to merge their companies and form a powerful corporation, arranging a marriage between their firstborn children, Nicole and Walter.

Most people might dread the idea of an arranged marriage, but for Nicole, it meant her greatest wish had finally come true.

Walter Gibson, her future husband, was not only her best friend-the only man who had shown her consistent kindness since childhood-but also the one Nicole had secretly loved for as long as she could remember.

No sooner had she heard the news than Nicole, anxious yet brimming with excitement, hurried over to the Gibson mansion to speak with her future husband. Surely, he wouldn't be expecting this either, but as such close friends, maybe Walter would be pleased with their parents' decision.

Wasn't it worse to be forced to marry a stranger?

The Gibson family maid opened the door and greeted Nicole with warm courtesy. Nicole's visits were common-she was close not only to Walter, but to his younger sister Amanda Gibson as well.

"Good day, are they..." Nicole began, but the maid answered before she could finish, bowing slightly.

"Both siblings are in the study. Please, go in..."

"Thank you," Nicole said as she took a steadying breath, heart pounding. How would Walter react when he saw her?

"And Miss Matthew... Congratulations on your engagement," the maid added with a friendly smile.

"Th... Thank you very much." Nicole lowered her gaze, cheeks burning with embarrassment.

Her hands trembled, her palms cold and clammy, and her heart beat so wildly she thought it might burst right out of her chest. She made her way toward the study, struggling to steady her breathing, when she heard Amanda's voice inside.

"Congratulations, brother... Dad just told me..."

"And you're congratulating me?" Walter's voice carried a sharp edge, the anger unmistakable.

Nicole froze at the threshold of the study. She knew him too well-noticing the tension in his tone, she immediately sensed that Walter was upset.

"Well... Yes... I'm congratulating you... I don't understand, I just thought you'd be happy, or at least okay with it." Amanda faltered, clearly confused.

"Happy? About an arranged marriage?" Walter shot back. "Why should I be happy? Why should I be satisfied? Just because I know Nicole, just because we're close? That only makes it worse, Amanda. It means I'll never be able to feel anything more for her..."

"But... but you get along with her. You're always kind and..."

"But I don't love her. I'm not in love with her, and I never will be..." Walter's words were unwavering.

Nicole felt something tear inside, a raw ache burning deep within her. In an instant, all her joy vanished-every ounce of hope crushed beneath his words.

"Walter..." Amanda let out a gasp, shock and disbelief in her voice. "Nicole is our friend."

"Our friend?" Walter's tone turned cold. "Honestly, right now, I'm not so sure about that..."

A chill ran through Nicole at those words. Did Walter really doubt their friendship?

"What are you talking about?" Amanda pressed, still lost in confusion.

Walter hesitated for a moment before replying, "I've thought a lot about it, Amanda. I think... it was Nicole who asked her father to arrange this marriage. I've always known she had feelings for me, but I never imagined she'd go this far..."

Nicole lingered outside the study, listening to every painful word from the man she loved. With each sentence, her chest tightened. Did he really know she loved him? The thought filled her with shame. Nicole squeezed her eyes shut, wishing she could vanish.

But how could he possibly know? She had never told a soul-her feelings were always her own, locked away deep inside.

Why would she ever confess to Walter? That would only destroy their friendship. He had never shown the slightest hint of interest beyond being friends, and besides, she... She wasn't anything like the women Walter usually dated: all of them stunning, slender, seemingly perfect.

Nicole had never let herself hope for anything more with Walter. She was curvier than most, a woman with soft edges and more than a few extra pounds. Pressing herself against the wall, she felt a tear slip down her cheek.

Now, to make things worse, Walter believed she had arranged this marriage herself-forcing him into it. How could he think that of her?

"Of course not! How can you say something like that?" Amanda's voice rose, filled with outrage. "Do you even realize what you're accusing Nicole of? She's always been good to you, always kind and honest..."

"I don't know anymore," Walter interrupted. "Feelings and ambition can change people, Amanda... Don't forget that."

"Even so... Nicole isn't that kind of person. I'm really shocked you'd even consider it," Amanda continued.

"Oh, really? Then tell me, Amanda, what other reason would my father have to push this marriage so suddenly? To merge the companies? Please. Both businesses have been thriving-profits have been up for months," Walter continued.

"I..." Amanda started, but her words faded as she suddenly caught sight of someone at the door. "Nicole?!"

Amanda's face crumpled as Nicole quietly stepped into the study. She couldn't stand hiding in the hallway any longer; she needed to face Walter and hear the truth from him directly.

Walter was standing by the window, lost in the view outside. But as soon as Amanda spoke Nicole's name, he turned, curiosity flickering in his eyes as he looked at the woman who was now-by arrangement-his fiancée.

Nicole looked shaken. Her pale face was slightly lowered, dark eyes shimmering, her hands trembling despite her efforts to steady them. Had she overheard everything? Walter wondered. The answer was painfully obvious.

"Nicole..." Amanda's voice softened with guilt. "I'm so sorry. You heard us, didn't you?"

Amanda stepped forward and gently took Nicole's hands. Walter stayed where he was, watching in tense silence, waiting for Nicole to speak.

Nicole slowly lifted her gaze and fixed it on Walter. She seemed to be holding herself together by sheer will, struggling to hide the pain clawing at her chest. It was useless. Walter knew her too well.

"I..." Nicole's lips quivered. She drew in a shaky breath before continuing. "I had nothing to do with our parents' decision, Walter. I... I didn't know about it either." Her brow tightened as she tried to remain composed, but her eyebrows trembled. "I came here because I wanted to know what you thought. Now I do..."

"Nicole, sweetheart..." Amanda whispered, her voice breaking.

The resolve Nicole had been clinging to finally crumbled. A sad, brittle smile crossed her lips as she lowered her eyes and gently pulled her hands free from Amanda's grasp.

"I'll ask my father to call off the marriage..."

Nicole turned and fled the room, Amanda's voice calling after her in panic.

But even if she had wanted to stop, she couldn't. She couldn't turn around. She couldn't go back. She couldn't endure another second of it. Nicole broke into tears as she ran, her chest burning, her breath coming in ragged gasps, as though the air itself was slipping away.

All her dreams had shattered.

For ten years, I disguised myself as my dead twin brother, fighting bloody mob wars to build the Falcone family's bootlegging empire. When the war ended, I thought I could finally take off the men's suits and be Anya again. Instead, my parents stole my victories to secure my father's power, demanding I disappear forever. When I tried to expose the truth, my family dragged me into a soundproof basement. My younger brother forced a metal funnel past my teeth and poured corrosive chemicals down my throat, dissolving my vocal cords into a blistered ruin. They chained me to a freezing pier, whipped me bloody, and let the men I used to lead spit on me as a jealous traitor. Then, under the guise of a family reconciliation dinner, my mother drugged my wine. While I lay paralyzed but fully conscious on my bed, my brother took heavy iron pliers and crushed all ten of my fingers, bone by bone. They wanted to ensure I could never hold a gun or write the truth again. I had slaughtered for them, bled for them, and craved only their love. In return, they pulverized my body and painted me as a hysterical madwoman just to keep the crown I had won for them. The foolish girl who wanted a family died in that agonizing pain, leaving behind only a ghost. Dragging my mangled, bandaged body into the rival Romano family's charity gala, I collapsed at the feet of their ruthless matriarch. "I invoke the sacred code," I rasped through my chemically burned throat. "I demand a Vendetta."

His cold eyes moved from my face to all over my white lace dress with a clenched jaw. I felt weak in my knees but I was successful in keeping my brave face. "Nina is that you. You are looking so beautiful" he said while looking at me. I blushed I was still feeling burning holes on my back I gulp down nervously. "Have some drink" he said while taking a glass from the waiter. "No she is leaving," said the harsh voice next thing I know champagne was all over my dress staining it making me gasped. Before I could react he gripped my hand & dragged me near the pool area where no one could see us. I snatched my hand away from his tight grip "Why the hell you ruined my dress" I half yelled. "What the fuck you are doing in my party looking like a slut" he yelled angrily while pinning me to the wall. Listening to his words my blood boiled. "Let me guess you came here to ruin my mood by showing your ugly face," he said with an angry smirk letting me know his hate. "Stop giving yourself so much of importance. Im here for your mom my face may be ugly but ugly souls like you are not even worthy of my life's single sec" I said angrily and pushed him away from me but he didn't let me go away. "I can hide my ugly soul beside this face but ugly ducklings like you carry there ugliness which can't even be hidden by beautiful dress because they stain everything around them with their ugliness" his words were hurting my soul. I won't give him the privilege to see my tears. With all my power I pushed him making him stumble and fall in the pool. "Happy birthday," saying that I tried to walk away with a victory smirk but he didn't let me go. Things he did to me after that still sends a shiver to my spine. One thing was clear that day I would never want to see his face again in this life. But I don't know why the hell I am standing in front of him in church wearing a wedding gown. Looking at his victory angry smirk plastered to his face with my glassy eyes.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."
