Six years ago, Dami's life shattered in a single night. An accident stole her voice and her husband Axel walked away when she needed him the most. Heartbroken and alone, she disappeared from the world only to rise again under the ruthless wings of Lycan, a feared mafia lord who turned her pain into power. Now Dami is back wealthy, unrecognizable, and dangerous. When she discovers Axel's company and home drowning in debt, she buys everything he once owned, determined to watch him break the way she did. But her plan twists into something darker when she invites Doman, Axel's half brother and sworn enemy into her life. What she doesn't know is that Doman isn't just after Axel but he's after her. And he isn't working alone. Sophia, the girl Dami once called sister, has been feeding Doman information, plotting quietly from the shadows. Together, they unravel Dami's empire, isolate her, and tighten a noose around her life until a cruel betrayal pushes her over the edge and steals something she can never get back. But in her darkest moment, the last man she ever expected returns to her side, Axel. As Doman's cruelty intensifies and Sophia's secrets explode into the open, Dami finds herself caught between the past that destroyed her and the man determined to save her. Old wounds reopen, buried feelings resurface. And when a forbidden kiss is caught on camera, war ignites. Now, Dami and Axel must face the enemies who hunted her, expose the conspiracy threatening to consume her, and decide whether their broken love is worth saving or destined to burn them both alive.

TURNAROUND CEO Chapter 1 The end of us

Dami's POV

The door slammed shut. The sound crashed through my chest like a thunderclap, and my hands began to tremble. My knuckles turned white as I clutched the duvet closer, as if thin fabric could shield me from the storm in his eyes.

"Do you even know what you've done?" Axel's voice cracked through the room like a whip, sharp and merciless.

I shook my head, my throat burning though no words could come. Tears stung, blurring my vision.

"Everyone on the internet now knows that my wife is mute. Do you hear that, Dami? I'm the biggest joke in the city. My name is a laughing stock because of you!" he yelled.

The shame in his tone cut deeper than a knife. With trembling fingers, I reached for the notebook on the bedside table and scribbled, I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to embarrass you. I held it out, my eyes begging for a little understanding. Just a little.

He snatched the page, glanced at it, and scoffed. "Nonsense! I can't cope with your sorry ass anymore. You can't do anything for me. You can't even stand beside me at parties or meetings. What's your use? You're useless."

His words were a dagger. Hot tears spilled, streaming down my cheeks. I wasn't useless. I hadn't been born this way, I wasn't born mute. The accident a month ago had stolen my voice, left me broken and silent. But instead of holding me close, Axel had grown distant and cruel.

"This marriage thing won't work between us," he continued, his face as cold as stone. "I'll call my lawyer to prepare the divorce papers. I'm done."

The finality in his voice hollowed me out. My chest tightened as he stormed out, leaving the echo of the slamming door ringing in my head.

We had promised each other forever. But now I saw the truth. He never loved me, he only loved the perfect image of me. And now that image was shattered.

The humiliation began the night before.

He had thrown a party in our home, filled with dignitaries and reporters. He had told me to stay upstairs, hidden away like a shameful secret. But thirst drove me down to the kitchen. The moment the crowd noticed me, questions came like daggers, questions I couldn't answer.

And then Alexa, his wicked sister, smirked and announced, "She's mute. My brother's wife can't even speak."

The room erupted with loud noises. Phones recorded. Laughter spread. By morning, the internet crowned me with a new name as the Ceo's mute wife.

Now, walking downstairs, I faced Alexa again. She clapped mockingly. "Here comes the mute wife."

I ignored her until I froze. Axel's lips were on another woman's. The world spun, and it all felt like a dream.

"He's getting married to her soon," Alexa whispered, her words slicing me open.

"Baby, your wife is so ugly," the woman giggled, twirling a strand of her perfect hair.

And Axel..my Axel nodded. His eyes, those green eyes that once softened when they looked at me were now cruel.

"I didn't realize it until now. I was blinded by love," he muttered.

The cruelty made my knees weak. I wanted to scream, to curse him, to remind him of the vows we once made. But no sound came. My silence mocked me as much as their laughter.

Alexa tilted her head, feigning pity. "Do you have something to say?" She gasped and clapped her hands. "Oh, I forgot you can't even speak. Dumb girl."

Their laughter crashed over me. I stood there, burning inside, but refused to let a single tear fall.

His mother appeared, her eyes dripping with disgust. The lawyer in her had been waiting for this day. "I told you not to marry the daughter of a nobody, Axel. I warned you. And now, look at her."

Axel sighed, wrapping an arm around the woman at his side. "I'm sorry, Mother. You were right. Samantha is the perfect woman for me."

Sam's laugh was delicate, triumphant. "Your mother is wise. I have everything in the world. A degree, class, status and a wealthy family. Unlike her, she didn't even finish high school."

Their words slammed into me harder than any physical blow. My vision blurred with tears I refused to shed. I turned and fled upstairs.

In the mirror, I caught my reflection: red, swollen eyes, a woman who no longer recognized herself. I didn't deserve this torment. I had to leave.

My hands shook as I packed my bags. I texted my grandmother in London that i was coming home. She had begged me after Grandfather passed, but I had stayed behind for Axel. For love. For nothing.

I was done.

When I came back down, Axel and his mother were already waiting. "She's packed her bags. Perfect. Let's sign the papers," she said with satisfaction.

He pushed the papers toward me, his face blank, his voice clipped. "Please, leave my house and shut the door behind you."

I stared at him, memorizing the face I had once loved more than life. His green eyes now looked at me with hatred. My hand trembled as I signed. Then I slid the ring off my finger, the weight of it suddenly disgusting.

"Are you sure she's okay?" Samantha whispered, her smile faltering.

I flung the ring at Axel, lifted my middle finger, and smiled through the pain. Their laughter turned to silence as I turned on my heel and walked out.

The night air bit against my skin, but it felt like freedom. This wasn't the end. No, this was the beginning.

They thought they had broken me. But one day, they would regret every word, every betrayal, every laugh at my expense.

I wasn't sure how yet but I would return. Stronger, colder and merciless.

"Goodbye, New York," I whispered in my mind, as the cab pulled away.

I would come back. Not as Axel's broken wife but as the storm that would destroy them all.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
