I am the wolfless widow of the Holland Pack, treated like a useless breeding vessel after my husband's death. My mother-in-law, the Pack Matriarch, handed me a bowl of soup laced with a forbidden Alpha aphrodisiac. She ordered me to climb into the bed of Damon Mills, the supreme Enforcer Alpha, to secure a high-tier heir. If I refused, she would have my innocent brother tortured to death in the silver mines. I had no choice but to deliver the soup, but Damon instantly smelled the drug. "Is this your personal specialty?" he sneered, looking at me with absolute disgust before having his guards throw me out. Furious at my failure, my mother-in-law stripped me of my coat and forced me to kneel in the freezing snow all night. The next day, Damon publicly humiliated me, shattering my late husband's silver watch and accusing me of being a desperate, scheming widow looking for my next victim. I had been stripped of my husband, my dignity, and my humanity. I was trampled by a cruel family and judged by an arrogant Alpha who thought he knew the truth. But they didn't know I had a hidden digital pen in my pocket. During the Pack's grand victory banquet, I slipped into the Matriarch's private lounge, locked the heavy mahogany doors, and pressed play on the recording of her treasonous plot. It was my turn to destroy them.

The Wolfless Widow: Defying The Enforcer Alpha Chapter 1

Everleigh Gillespie POV:

Casimiro had been dead for a year. I was his widow-wolfless, penniless, the lowest shadow in the Holland Pack. And tonight, his parents had decided I would pay for his bloodline with another Alpha's seed.

"The Holland name won't end because of your useless, empty womb. You will bear an heir claimed by this family-not by whatever Alpha seeds it."

Estelle Holland didn't raise her voice. The obsidian prayer beads in her withered hand cracked against the oak armrest, each tap echoing off the limestone walls of the ancestral hall. I stood three paces from the council table, nails biting my palms. My washed-out linen dress brushed my worn shoes. In a hall full of Alpha tapestries, I was just another shadow nobody wanted.

"Mother," I whispered. The stone floor's chill seeped through my soles. "I am Casimiro's widow. I swore an oath before the Moon Goddess. I can't simply-"

"You'll do as you're told, Everleigh." Arthur Holland, the reigning Alpha, cut me off. He leaned back in his leather chair, flicking dust from his sleeve. "You have no wolf. No inner beast. No combat strength. No noble pedigree. Bearing a high-tier Alpha's child for this family's legal line is the only value you have left."

I'd heard those words for three years. In the werewolf hierarchy, genes were destiny. A wolfless woman was a defect.

Estelle rose from her high-backed chair, her dark eyes fixed on me with chilling disdain. "We've made an agreement. Tonight, you'll submit to Enforcer Alpha Damon Mills and fulfill the surrogate blood oath."

The name hit like a blow.

Damon Mills. Head of the Werewolf High Enforcement Council. Supreme arbiter of Pack law. Casimiro's childhood companion. A warrior whose reputation made rogue packs surrender at the border-cold, brutal, and utterly detached from Pack politics.

"No." I stumbled back. The iron brazier caught the backs of my knees. "No! That defies every sacred law. I won't crawl into another man's bed like a common breeder!"

Estelle's face twisted. She swept a bone-china teacup off the table and hurled it at my feet.

It shattered. Boiling tea and porcelain shards exploded across my ankles. I gasped as hot liquid soaked through my stockings, then came the sting of blood welling from deep cuts.

"You think you have the right to refuse?" Estelle stepped around the table until her wrinkled, venomous face was inches from mine. "Your brother Eber is locked in the deep silver mines of the southern district. Silver toxicity is already eating away at his wolf. One word from me, and the guards will tighten his chains until the metal burns through bone. By the third sunrise, he'll be a corpse."

My breath stopped. The air turned bitter and metallic.

Eber. My only family. The only person who had protected me before he was framed and thrown into that brutal prison.

"You wouldn't..." My voice cracked. Tears burned behind my eyes, but I forced them down.

"Try me," Estelle sneered. "Damon Mills is staying in the East Wing guest suite tonight. You'll go to his room. You'll do whatever is necessary to take his seed and secure an heir recorded under the Holland name. If you fail-or if you breathe a word of our coercion-your brother's body will be fed to the border scavengers."

She turned her back, returning to her seat as if brushing away an insect. "Get out of my sight. Don't bleed on my rugs."

I lowered my head. My jaw ached from clenching. Copper filled my mouth, but I swallowed the blood and the humiliation whole.

"Yes, Mother," I squeezed out through numb lips.

I turned and limped toward the massive double oak doors. Each step sent pain shooting up from my lacerated ankles, but I didn't slow down.

When I pushed the doors open, freezing winter wind hit my overheated skin. The Pack manor was dark, lit only by sparse, flickering sconces. My night blindness blurred the corridor into deep, terrifying shadows. I pressed one trembling hand to the rough stone wall and guided myself forward.

Then the air shifted.

A heavy, predatory pressure rolled down the hallway-frozen winter frost and crushed cedarwood. It was so dominant, so suffocatingly cold, that my instincts screamed at me to drop to the floor and bare my neck. I had no inner wolf, but my body still recognized an apex predator.

Heavy footsteps echoed against the flags.

I froze, pressing my back flat against the wall, trying to vanish into the alcove.

A tall figure emerged from the darkness. Pitch-black bespoke suit. Broad shoulders. Lean waist. Every movement carried lethal grace. On the index finger of his left hand, an Enforcer crest ring forged of blackened steel gleamed under the torchlight.

Damon Mills.

I held my breath, ducking my head until my chin touched my chest, praying the shadows would hide me.

His footsteps didn't falter. But as he drew level with me, his piercing, slate-gray eyes cut sideways. His gaze slid over my trembling body and paused on the blood soaking my ruined stockings.

He didn't stop. He didn't ask a question.

As he brushed past, his throat moved slightly, and a low, mocking scoff rumbled from his chest. Pure contempt. The kind an Alpha reserved for a pathetic, scheming widow who had already disgraced her station.

I squeezed my eyes shut, nails digging into my palms until fresh blood slicked my skin. I waited until his footsteps faded down the long corridor, until the crushing weight of his presence finally receded.

Only then did my legs give out. I dropped hard onto the cold stone floor.

Outside the arched window, the wind howled through the barren trees like a dying beast. I looked down at the blood drying on my ankles, my vision clearing through the fog of pain.

I had no choices left. To save Eber, I would have to walk straight into that man's private hell.

Then I heard it.

A faint, rhythmic click-metal against stone. Not footsteps. Slower. Deliberate.

I lifted my head, my night blindness turning the corridor into a sea of black. But I didn't need to see to know.

Someone was still there. Watching me.
