I am the Dragonless Queen, married to the Dragon King for five years, trying to warm his icy heart. But on my twenty-fifth birthday, he canceled our private dinner to spend it with my half-sister, Lyra. Through the cracked door, I watched him smile at Lyra with a warmth he never gave me, praising her sacred dragonfire. "Auntie Lyra is amazing!" my four-year-old daughter squealed. "Mom never knows how to make these!" My husband didn't even look up when I finally entered, coldly telling me not to make an issue out of a quiet family evening. Looking at the three of them framed by the hearth-the formidable king, the holy maiden of flame, and the adoring royal daughter-they formed a picture of unassailable perfection. I was just a cold-blooded intruder in my own home, a decorative fixture tolerated only for political peace. Five years of silent endurance evaporated into a freezing void. Why did I bury my true self, believing devotion could fill the empty spaces? Why did I let them treat me like a shameful defect? I didn't scream or cry. I calmly drafted a formal Declaration of Severance, left it on his desk, and walked out of the palace forever. My husband assumed I was just throwing a domestic tantrum and would come crawling back once my coin ran out. He had no idea that his useless, Dragonless wife was actually the shadowy founder of Aether Forge-the premier military syndicate his entire empire desperately relied on to survive. Keep your throne, Kaelen. I am taking back my life.

His Unwanted Queen Is A Secret Genius Chapter 1

Aurelia Vance POV:

"Where is the birthday dinner, Kaelen?" I asked, pushing open the heavy ironwood door of the dragon nest.

The words died in my throat the moment I stepped across the threshold. The grand foyer of the Drakos royal roost stretched out before me, vast and utterly deserted. Overhead, clusters of luminous dragon crystals cast a pale, cold gleam against the polished obsidian floor, stretching my solitary shadow into a thin, broken line.

The air blew dry and warm, regulated by the palace's ancient thermal ducts that channeled the dormant breath of the royal mount. Yet a sharp chill crept beneath my skin. I smoothed the fabric of my simple ivory silk gown. It was completely smooth, devoid of any dragonscale embroidery or flamecrest stitching. In this palace, wearing such sacred patterns was an act of high treason for someone like me-a Dragonless woman who could never summon a single spark.

My heels clicked sharply against the dark stone as I walked deeper into the corridors. The sound echoed through the hollow hall, loud and accusing.

I followed the murmur of voices down the frescoed gallery toward the private sitting room. Drakos ancestors glared down at me from murals of scorched battlefields and golden glory. As I neared the archway, a burst of bright, childish laughter drifted through the cracked door.

My heart gave a faint, hopeful lurch.

Perhaps he had simply gathered everyone inside. Perhaps he had remembered that today was my twenty-fifth birthday.

I eased the door open by an inch and peered inside.

My husband, King Kaelen Drakos, sat back against the dark velvet sofa near the hearth. He wore a tunic of midnight silk stitched with pure gold flame patterns-the exclusive heraldry of the sovereign pure-bloods. His sharp, predatory jawline was relaxed, his towering frame exuding the natural, suffocating pressure of a monarch who ruled the skies.

On the plush wool rug before him sat our four-year-old daughter, Elara. She clapped her tiny hands, her golden eyes wide with unadulterated delight.

Between them knelt Lyra Vane, my half-sister.

Lyra was swathed in shimmering crimson satin that rippled like liquid fire. She held out her pale, delicate fingers, murmuring ancient draconic words. Swarms of miniature, glowing flame butterflies spiraled from her palms, fluttering gracefully in the air before landing softly on Elara's outstretched palms.

"Auntie Lyra is amazing!" Elara squealed, jumping up and down. "Mom never knows how to make these!"

The innocent words hit my chest like a lead weight. My breath hitched, my fingers digging hard into the palms of my hands until my nails threatened to break skin.

Kaelen looked at Lyra. The corner of his mouth lifted into a faint, relaxed smile. It was an expression so rare and gentle that I had only ever seen it directed at the battlefield or the highest honors of his court. His golden pupils, usually cold as glacial slag whenever they fell upon me, glowed with open warmth.

"You have a steady control over your flame, Lyra," Kaelen murmured, his deep baritone carrying easily across the quiet room. "The elders will be pleased with the blessing ceremony."

Lyra looked up, her gaze catching the crack in the door. A flicker of triumphant mockery danced in her red-gold eyes before melting into an expression of radiant, holy innocence.

"Sister," Lyra called out softly, rising with practiced grace. "You are back. We were just keeping little Elara company while she waited."

She spoke with the easy poise of a woman who already owned the room.

I pushed the heavy oak door open and stepped into the light, forcing my spine straight. "Elara. Kaelen."

The warmth on Kaelen's face vanished instantly. His brow furrowed slightly, replaced by that familiar wall of icy indifference. "You are back late."

"The roads from the outer artisan quarter were congested," I said, my voice steady despite the tremor in my throat. "Kaelen, did you forget what day it is?"

He paused, his eyes narrowing as if searching his memory for an insignificant footnote.

Elara tugged at Lyra's embroidered sleeve, pouting her lower lip. "Mom, you ruined the fireflies. I wanted Auntie Lyra to show me the soaring drakes next."

"The private court dinner is canceled tonight," Kaelen said flatly, not bothering to rise from his seat. "Lyra rarely has time away from the sanctuary. I told the kitchens to prepare a meal upstairs so she can spend time with Elara."

My stomach plummeted. "Canceled? You promised we would have an evening together."

"Priorities shift, Aurelia," he replied, his tone brooking no argument. He picked up a leather-bound military dossier from the side table, completely dismissing me. "Do not make an issue out of a quiet family evening."

Lyra stepped closer to Kaelen, resting a hand gently against the carved armrest of his sofa. "Please do not be angry with the King, Sister. Elara feels more secure when bathed in true flame. You understand how essential it is for a young royal child, even if... well, even if you cannot provide it."

Every syllable was wrapped in honey, and every syllable was designed to remind me of my absolute deficiency in this house.

I looked at the three of them framed by the hearth-the formidable Dragon King, the celebrated holy maiden of flame, and the royal daughter who looked at her aunt with pure adoration. They formed a picture of absolute, unassailable perfection.

And I stood alone in the shadow of the doorway, an intruder in my own home.

Five years of silent endurance, of crafting behind closed doors, of trying to warm a glacier with my bare hands, evaporated into a cold, hollow silence.

"I see," I said.

I did not wait for a reply. I turned on my heel and walked out, leaving the sound of Lyra's low laughter and Elara's cheerful chatter behind me in the golden light.
