"Separate bedrooms? Fine," Dante whispered, his face so close she could feel his breath. "But don't mistake my patience for weakness, Elena. You are signing yourself to a villain. And once you enter my castle, you wear my mark." At twenty, Elena Rossi is the black sheep of a failing mafia empire. She doesn't want high-society glamour or arranged marriages; she only wants her freedom, her laptop, and to stay out of her family's dirty business. She is a genius hacker with a razor-sharp tongue and zero respect for authority. But when her incompetent stepbrother loses a fifty-million-dollar shipment belonging to the underworld's most feared tyrant, Elena becomes the ultimate bargaining chip. At thirty-two, Dante Vitale is the cold, ruthless "Capo of Capos." He doesn't look for love-he looks for absolute submission. To settle an old blood debt and seize the remaining Rossi territories, he demands Elena as his contract bride for one single year. He expects a fragile, terrified girl he can easily break and lock away in his gilded cage to look pretty. He couldn't be more wrong. Trapped inside his heavily guarded estate, Elena refuses to bow. Armed with a brilliant, rebellious mind and elite hacking skills, she launches a silent, digital war to sabotage his empire from the inside out, turning his high-tech fortress into her personal playground. Dante responds with absolute authority, turning their forced marriage into a lethal, explosive game of psychological warfare. But the twelve-year age gap and mutual hatred only fuel a dangerous, suffocating physical chemistry. When a brutal internal coup threatens Dante's life, Elena's calculations fail her. She doesn't hesitate-she fights back and saves him, completely exposing her kickass talents to the man who rules her cage. Now, the game has changed. Dante no longer wants a pawn. He wants the brilliant, defiant wildfire ruling his heart. In a world where trust is a death sentence, can the ruthless villain handle the fire of the diamond he stole?
The air in the private VIP lounge of the Rossi estate tasted like expensive cigar smoke and cheap desperation. Elena Rossi kept her fingers moving rapidly over the sleek screen of her modified tablet, hidden beneath the heavy folds of her silk emerald gown.
She hated the dress. It was a suffocating cage of lace and fabric designed to make her look like a submissive, high-society mafia princess. But Elena was no princess. She belonged in oversized hoodies, drowned in lines of complex code, tucked away in the dark basement where her family usually forgot she existed.
Tonight, however, her stepbrother Marco had dragged her under the glittering chandeliers for one reason: to use her as a shield to save his own skin.
"Keep your mouth shut, smile, and look pretty for once in your life, Elena," Marco hissed, his fingers gripping her bare shoulder tight enough to leave bruises.
"The Vitale syndicate intercepted our entire northern shipment. If we don't appease him tonight, he'll wipe our family off the map before sunrise." Elena didn't flinch. She didn't look at Marco with fear.
Instead, she subtly swiped her screen, bypassing her family's outdated security firewall with three lazy strokes of her thumb."You lost fifty million dollars of his high-grade merchandise because you're an incompetent idiot, Marco," Elena said, her voice dripping with sharp, effortless sarcasm.
"You can't appease a man like Dante Vitale with a fake smile and a cheap glass of champagne. If I were him, I'd shoot you just for having a terrible haircut."
"I said shut up!" Marco snarled, his face flushing red as he raised a hand threateningly. Before his palm could fall, the heavy double doors of the lounge flew open.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees instantly. The low chatter of the Rossi guards died out, replaced by a suffocating, terrified silence. Even the ice in the crystal glasses stopped rattling.
Dante Vitale walked in. At thirty-two, the supreme Capo of the East Coast didn't just command a room; he owned it by right of blood. He wore a bespoke, midnight-black three-piece suit that accentuated his broad, muscular shoulders and towering six-foot-three frame. His dark hair was sharply styled, and a faint, silver scar cut through his left eyebrow, adding a lethal edge to his devastatingly handsome face. He possessed the kind of cold, mature authority that only came from a man who had survived a dozen assassinations and built a throne out of his enemies' bones.
Elena's breath hitched, but she forced her expression into a mask of pure boredom. She was twenty, and looking at Dante, the twelve-year age gap was a physical weight in the room. He wasn't a boy playing gangster games. He was a monster who ruled the shadows.
Dante didn't look at the trembling Rossi guards. He didn't look at the luxury decor. His piercing, stormy grey eyes swept across the room and locked directly onto Elena. His gaze lingered on the tight, bruising grip Marco still had on her shoulder.
A dangerous, subtle flash of annoyance crossed Dante's features before his face returned to a mask of pure ice. "Vitale," Marco stammered, stepping forward, practically pushing Elena to the side.
"Thank you for coming. We can settle the debt. We have properties downtown, we have the shipping docks-"
"You have nothing," Dante's voice cut through the room like a blade.
It was a deep, smooth baritone that sent a tremor straight down Elena's spine.
"Your downtown properties are already under my name as of twenty minutes ago. Your men at the shipping docks are currently surrendering their weapons to my enforcers. You are bankrupt, Rossi. You have no cards left to play."Marco turned pale, sweat pouring down his expensive collar.
"There must be a compromise! A treaty! Name your price." Dante walked closer, his heavy leather boots echoing like a death march on the marble floor. He stopped just three feet away from Elena. The scent of expensive cologne, cedarwood, and a faint, sharp hint of gunpowder washed over her.
Up close, he was massive, casting a literal shadow over her small frame. He didn't look at Marco. His eyes stayed glued to Elena, scanning her defiant posture, her crossed arms, and the tablet she was poorly hiding against her hip.
"A treaty requires both sides to have something of value," Dante murmured, his grey eyes darkening with dark amusement as he noticed her glaring right back at him.
"Your brother is a spineless coward. But you..." He reached out, his gloved fingers brushing against her jawline. His touch was freezing, yet it sent a jolt of liquid fire through her veins.
"You look like the only piece of jewelry left in this crumbling house." Elena didn't shrink back. She didn't whimper. Instead, she knocked his hand away with a sharp, aggressive flick of her wrist. The room gasped. Nobody touched the Capo.
"I am not a piece of jewelry, and I sure as hell don't belong to the Rossi debt department," Elena shot back, her tone dripping with ice.
"If you want your fifty million back, I suggest you strip Marco of his expensive suits and sell his kidneys. Leave me out of your little playground wars."
Dante paused, looking down at his hand, then back up at her. Instead of pulling a gun, a slow, predatory smirk spread across his lips. He liked a challenge, and this girl was a wildfire in a room full of sheep.
"You have a very sharp tongue for someone so young," Dante whispered, stepping directly into her personal space, forcing her to tilt her head back just to look him in the eye.
"But fire burns out when it runs out of oxygen. Right now, I am the only thing keeping this family breathing."
He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a thick, leather-bound document, tossing it onto the glass table beside them with a heavy thud. "One year," Dante announced, looking at Marco but keeping his body angled toward Elena.
"A marriage contract. She comes to my estate. She wears my ring. She acts as the shield to prove the Rossi family has surrendered entirely to the Vitales. At the end of the year, I absorb your remaining ports, and she goes free with a clean slate. Refuse, and my men clean this room before the champagne gets warm."
"Done," Marco blurted out immediately, not even looking at his sister.
"Take her. She's yours."
Elena felt a sickening wave of betrayal, though she wasn't surprised. Her family had always viewed her as an anomaly, an outsider. She looked at the contract, then up at the towering tyrant waiting for her answer.
She knew she couldn't outrun his bullets tonight. But she could certainly make him regret picking her. "I have conditions," Elena said, stepping closer until her chest almost brushed his vest, her posture completely rebellious.
Dante raised an eyebrow, genuinely amused by her audacity. "A captive doesn't make conditions, sweetheart."
"I am not your captive. I am a signing party," she snapped, staring directly into his stormy grey eyes.
"Condition one: separate bedrooms. Condition two: I keep my personal tech, and your goons stay out of my files.
Condition three: you stay out of my way, and I stay out of yours. Deal?"
Dante looked down at her, his eyes tracing the stubborn, beautiful set of her jaw. The absolute bravery of this twenty-year-old girl in the face of absolute death was the most exhilarating thing he had experienced in years.
"Separate bedrooms? Fine," Dante whispered, his face so close she could feel the warmth of his breath against her lips.
"But don't mistake my patience for weakness, Elena. You are signing yourself to a villain. And once you enter my castle, you wear my mark."
Elena grabbed the heavy pen from the table. With a swift, angry stroke, she signed her name at the bottom of the parchment. She was officially The Villain's Diamond. And she was going to make him regret the day he ever put her in his cage.
