Lyla spent her entire life dreaming of the day she would meet her destined mate. That dream becomes a nightmare during the Blood Moon Ceremony when the Moon Goddess chooses Alpha Kieran, the most powerful and ruthless Alpha in the northern territories, as her mate. For one breathless moment, Lyla believes she has finally found her happily ever after. Then Kieran looks her in the eyes and says the words that shatter her world. "I, Alpha Kieran, reject you as my mate." Rejected in front of the entire pack, Lyla becomes the laughingstock of the Silver Moon Pack. With her heart broken and her pride destroyed, she disappears into the forbidden woods. Everyone believes she is dead. But five years later, Lyla returns. She is no longer the helpless girl Kieran rejected. She is now a powerful Luna of the rival Shadow Pack, feared and respected-and standing beside her is Caelum, a dangerously powerful Alpha who would burn the world to protect her. But Lyla has brought back something else. A son. A little boy with silver eyes that are unmistakably Kieran's. When Kieran discovers the truth, he realizes the mate he so carelessly rejected was the woman he never stopped loving-and the child he never knew existed is his own flesh and blood. Now Kieran wants his mate back. Caelum is willing to fight him for her. And Lyla? She doesn't want either man's pity. She certainly doesn't want Kieran's second chance. She wants revenge. But when old enemies rise, secrets from the past begin to surface, and the bond between Lyla and Kieran refuses to die, she must decide whether to punish the Alpha who broke her heart... or give him the second chance he never deserved.
The Blood Moon hung low over the Silver Moon
Pack, enormous and crimson, bathing the sacred
forest in an eerie red glow.
To everyone else, it was a night of celebration.
To Lyla, it was supposed to be the night her life
finally began.she stood at the edge of the Sacred Clearing, nervously smoothing the skirt of her whitedress.
She had saved for two years to buy it.
It wasn't expensive but It wasn't the kind of dress a Luna would wear.
But to Lyla, it was beautiful.
She touched the small silver pendant around her
neck that once belonged to her Mother and drew a shaky breath.
"Deep breaths, Lyla," she whispered to herself
"The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes."
At twenty-one, Lyla had almost given up hope of
finding her mate.
She was an Omega in the Silver Moon Pack.
The lowest-ranked wolf, barely noticed unless
there was work to be done.
For years, she had cleaned the Alpha's manor, served meals, washed clothes, and learned to keep her head down whenever the warriors passed. She had never been important.
Never been beautiful enough.
Never been strong enough.
But tonight could change everything.
The Blood Moon Ceremony was the night when
unmated wolves presented themselves before
the Moon Goddess.
If fate was kind, she would finally reveal their
destined partners.
Lyla desperately wanted to believe fate had not
forgotten her.
She stepped into the clearing where hundreds of wolves stood in a wide circle, their eyes glowing beneath the crimson moonlight.
The air was thick with the scents of pine, earth,
musk, and ancient magic. And then she saw him.
Alpha Kieran. He stood at the center of the sacred circle like he had been born to command it.Tall. Broad-shouldered. Powerful.
Six-foot-four of controlled violence and dark
authority. His black hair fell across his forehead, while his usually gray eyes shimmered with the golden glow of his wolf. The most powerful Alpha in the northern territories.
The man every unmated female dreamed of.
Lyla lowered her eyes quickly, She had no business dreaming about him.She was just an Omega and he was an Alpha.Their worlds could never touch. Her bare foot stepped onto the sacred stone and everything changed.
A violent force slammed into her chest.
Lyla gasped.Heat exploded through her veins, spreading from her heart to every inch of her body. Her knees nearly buckled as an unfamiliar
presence roared awake inside her.
Her wolf.
Her Mate. The word thundered through her mind.
Mate!
Lyla's eyes flew toward Kieran.
He had frozen too.His head snapped in her direction. For one breathless second, their eyes locked. His nostrils flared as he inhaled her scent of Vanilla and Rain
Something wild flickered across his face.
Recognition.Hunger and Shock.
Lyla's heart soared and he felt it too.
Oh he was her mate!
The Moon Goddess had chosen Alpha Kieran for
her. And for the first time in her life, Lyla felt like she mattered. She took a trembling step toward him.
"Kieran..." she whispered his name.
His jaw tightened. The warmth disappeared from his eyes as he said a screeching No.
The single word echoed through the clearing.
Lyla stopped in her tracks.
"What?" Kieran walked toward her, every step was slow and deliberate, but there was no tenderness in his expression.
He looked her up and down. At her simple white dress, her slender body, her trembling hands and the Omega mark on her wrist. His expression hardened with disgust.
"I expected a warrior," he said coldly.
The clearing fell silent.
"I expected a woman capable of standing beside
me.Someone strong enough to carry my name and lead this pack."
His eyes settled on her face.
"Instead, the Goddess gives me a servant."
A few wolves snickered.
Lyla's cheeks burned.
"I am your mate," she whispered.
Her voice cracked.
"The bond... it's sacred." She continued.
Kieran's expression darkened as he thundered,
"The bond is a shackle."
He turned toward the watching pack.
"A pack is only as strong as its Alpha And an Alpha is only as strong as the bloodline he leaves behind."
His eyes returned to Lyla.
"I will not weaken mine with an Omega who can
barely shift."
Lyla's heart shattered.
"Please..." she mumbled
She couldn't stop the tears from gathering in her
eyes "Give me a chance."
Kieran stepped closer, his voice dropped into a terrifying growl.
"You want a chance?"Lyla nodded helplessly.
He stared directly into her eyes.
"Then learn what rejection feels like."
The entire clearing seemed to hold its breath.
Kieran straightened, his Alpha aura exploding
outward.
"I, Kieran, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, reject
you, Lyla of no rank, as my mate and future
Luna."
The bond inside her screamed as she
collapsed to her knees. Pain ripped through her chest and it wasn't ordinary pain. It was as if someone had reached inside her soul and torn it in half.
She clawed at her chest, choking on a scream as blood trickled from her nose.
Her vision blurred. The beautiful golden thread that had appeared between her and Kieran moments earlier was burning black.
Suddenly, something inside her broke.
The clearing erupted in whispers.
"She was his mate?"
"An Omega?"
"How come?"
"How embarrassing."
"The Goddess made a mistake."
Lyla could barely hear them as she was drowning in pain.
Kieran stood over her with nothing like regret
He leaned closer, his voice was low enough that only she could hear.
"Leave the pack before dawn."
Lyla looked up at him through tear-filled eyes.
"If I see you here again," he continued,
"I won't care that you were once my mate."
"I'll treat you like an intruder."
"And I'll kill you."
Lyla stared at the man she had dreamed of loving.
Her mate. Her Alpha.Her nightmare.
Kieran turned away and walked toward the pack without looking back. She stared after the man who just destroyed her.
One by one, the wolves followed him.
Soon, Lyla was alone in the center of the clearing.
The Blood Moon continued to shine above her.
She pressed a trembling hand against her chest.
Every breath hurt, every heartbeat reminded her of what she had lost.
She had spent twenty-one years believing she
was nothing.Tonight, she had finally found the one person who was supposed to make her feel worthy.
And he had proven that she was right all along.
Lyla lowered her head.
A sob escaped her lips.
Then she felt it.
A strange flutter beneath her palm. She froze.
Her hand slowly moved to her stomach.
There it was again.
A tiny sensation.
So faint she almost convinced herself she had
imagined it.
Another flutter as her eyes widened.
Her wolf stirred weakly inside her.
Protect.
Her heart stopped.
No that was impossible.
She had been rejected.
The bond was broken.
Kieran had walked away.
But something inside her was still alive.
Something the rejection hadn't destroyed.
Lyla stared toward the dark path where Kieran
had disappeared ro
Tears still streamed down her face but beneath the pain, something else began to grow.
A secret,A secret that would change the fate of two packs.
Kieran thought he had just erased the insignificant Omega from his life.
He was wrong.
He had only given her a reason to survive.
And five years from now, when Lyla returned...
she would make him regret the day he rejected
her.
