The Mafia King's Revenge Bride Elena Moretti never imagined her life would be traded like a debt. One moment she is just a young woman trying to hold her broken family together... the next, she is standing face-to-face with Luca De Santis-the most feared Mafia King in the city. Cold. Powerful. Untouchable. And now... her husband. Forced into a marriage she never agreed to, Elena swears she will never belong to him. Not to his world of blood, power, and secrets. Not to the man who looks at her like she is both his revenge... and his obsession. But Luca is not a man who takes no for an answer. He claims she is the price her family must pay. She believes he is her greatest enemy. Until buried secrets begin to surface-secrets that tie their families together in ways neither of them expected. As danger closes in, betrayal rises from within, and enemies prepare to destroy them both, Elena realizes the truth is far more dangerous than the Mafia King she was forced to marry. Because Luca De Santis doesn't just want revenge... He wants her. And when the truth finally comes out, one of them will be forced to choose between love, loyalty, and survival. In a world where every kiss could be a betrayal... falling in love might be the most dangerous thing of all.
The house was too quiet.
Elena Moretti noticed it the second she stepped through the front door, keys still in her hand, the cold October air clinging to her coat. No music drifting from the kitchen. No sound of her father's voice on the phone, the one he always raised when he talked business. Just silence, thick and wrong, settling over the marble floors like dust.
She paused in the foyer and looked toward the driveway she'd just walked past. Tire tracks. Fresh ones, cutting deep grooves into the gravel where no car should have been.
"Sofia?" she called, shrugging out of her coat.
Her sister appeared at the top of the stairs, arms wrapped around herself even though the house wasn't cold. Sofia was nineteen, all soft edges and wide eyes, and right now those eyes were red-rimmed.
"What happened?" Elena asked, already moving toward the staircase.
"I don't know." Sofia's voice cracked. "Some men came. In suits - expensive ones, Elena, like nothing I've ever seen. They were here for almost two hours. Papa wouldn't let me anywhere near his office."
"What kind of men?"
"I don't know." Sofia shook her head, hugging herself tighter. "But Papa looked scared. I've never seen him look like that."
Elena's stomach tightened. Their father didn't get scared. Antonio Moretti had built a shipping business from nothing, had weathered two recessions and a divorce and a hostile takeover attempt without so much as losing his appetite. The man complained about traffic and golf scores. He didn't get scared.
"Where is he now?"
"Study. He's been in there since they left." Sofia caught her sister's sleeve. "Elena, what's going on?"
"I don't know yet." Elena squeezed her hand. "But I'm going to find out."
---
Dinner was a performance nobody wanted to give. Her father picked at his food, jaw working, eyes somewhere far away. Her mother kept refilling her wine glass and not drinking from it. Sofia pushed pasta around her plate in silence.
Elena said nothing. She watched.
She went to bed early, or pretended to. Her room was at the end of the hall, close enough to her parents' that when the shouting started just after eleven, she heard every word through the wall.
"-can't keep this from her forever, Antonio-"
"I'm handling it."
"Handling it? They were in our house. Armed men, in our home, Antonio, with Sofia upstairs-"
"I said I'm handling it!" Her father's voice cracked on the last word, and that crack told Elena more than any sentence could have. Antonio Moretti did not crack.
She was out of bed and at their door before she'd decided to move.
"-if we don't have the money by the deadline, you understand what happens. To all of us. Not just you."
"There has to be another way to get four million dollars, Antonio-"
Four million.
Elena's hand froze on the doorknob.
"There isn't," her father said, quieter now, hollowed out. "I've tried everything. The banks won't touch us, not after the Hendricks deal collapsed. We're three weeks from losing everything - the house, the company, all of it. And these aren't people you can negotiate payment plans with, Maria. These are people who collect one way or another."
Silence. Then her mother's voice, smaller: "So what do we do?"
"There's a way," Antonio said. "One way. I already - I've already started it."
Elena pushed the door open.
Both her parents turned. Her mother's face went white. Her father straightened so fast he nearly knocked over the lamp on the nightstand.
"Elena-"
"Started what?" Her voice came out steadier than she felt. "What have you done?"
"This doesn't concern you. Go back to bed."
"Don't." She stepped fully into the room, arms crossed, refusing to be moved. "I just heard you say we're three weeks from losing everything. I heard you say four million dollars. I heard Mom ask what you're going to do, and I heard you say you already started something. So no, Papa, I'm not going back to bed. Tell me what's happening."
Antonio's mouth opened, closed. He looked at his wife, who looked away, and something in that exchange - the silent handoff of a burden neither of them wanted to carry alone - made Elena's chest go tight with dread.
"Sit down," he said finally.
"I'll stand."
He exhaled, long and ragged, and sank onto the edge of the bed like his legs had given out. "The business is failing. Has been for months. I took a loan to cover it - from people I shouldn't have gone to. I was desperate, Elena. I thought I could pay it back before anyone noticed."
"How much do you owe?"
"Four million. With interest, it's grown. And the men who came today - they don't extend deadlines. They don't accept late payments. They take what they're owed, one way or another."
"So we're bankrupt. Okay. That's terrible, but we'll survive it. We'll sell the house, we'll-"
"It's not just money they'll take, Elena." His eyes lifted to hers, and what she saw there made her go still. "I made an arrangement. To protect this family. To protect you and your sister and your mother. It's done. It's settled."
"What arrangement?"
He didn't answer right away. The silence stretched long enough that she felt the floor tilt slightly beneath her.
"Papa. What did you do."
"You're going to be married," he said.
For a moment she actually laughed - a short, disbelieving sound, because surely, surely he wasn't serious. "That's not funny."
"I'm not joking."
"Married. To who? You can't just - Papa, this is the twenty-first century, you can't just hand me off like a - like I'm collateral-"
"It's the only way to clear the debt and keep us safe." His voice gained a thin, desperate strength. "I had no other option. None. This protects all of us."
"It protects you." The words came out sharp, bitter. "I'm not a business asset you can trade to fix your mistakes. I am your daughter."
"Elena-"
"Who is it?" she demanded. "Who did you sell me to?"
Antonio's throat worked. He looked, for one unguarded second, like a man standing at the edge of something he couldn't take back.
"Luca De Santis."
The room seemed to drop ten degrees.
Elena had heard that name her whole life, spoken in the kind of hushed, careful tone people used for things they were afraid might hear them. Luca De Santis didn't run a business empire - he ran the city. Half of it openly, the other half from shadows nobody dared shine a light into. People who crossed him disappeared. People who owed him paid, always, in money or in something worse.
"You're insane," she whispered. "You actually think I'm going to marry a criminal? A - a murderer?"
"He is the only man in this city who can erase that debt with a phone call," her father snapped, fear sharpening into anger. "Do you understand what I'm trying to do here? I'm trying to save this family from ruin, and you're standing there judging me for it."
"I'm judging you because you sold your daughter to save yourself!"
"I am trying to save all of us!"
"By giving me to him?" Her voice cracked, finally, the calm fracturing into something raw. "I won't do it. I don't care what you've promised him. I will never marry that man."
That was when the front door opened.
Not knocked. Opened - the heavy oak door downstairs swinging wide on hinges that never made a sound for guests, because guests didn't have keys to this house.
The shouting died in Elena's throat.
Footsteps moved through the foyer below. Unhurried. Measured. Several pairs, but only one set seemed to matter - the rest fell into step around it like an honor guard.
Her father's face had gone the color of ash. "He's early," he murmured, and for the first time that night, Elena heard real fear in his voice.
The footsteps reached the staircase.
She followed her parents down, heart slamming against her ribs, and stopped at the bottom step as the front room filled with men in dark suits - four, five of them, spreading along the walls with the quiet efficiency of people who'd done this a hundred times before.
And then he walked in.
He didn't need to announce himself. The room did it for him - the way every man straightened, the way the air itself seemed to thin. He moved like stillness was a weapon he'd mastered, dark suit immaculate, expression carved from something that didn't flinch. He wasn't tall in a way that loomed, wasn't broad in a way that threatened. He didn't have to be. Power rolled off him in a register too low for words, something felt in the base of the spine.
His gaze swept the room once. Found her.
And stopped.
Elena's pulse roared in her ears, but she didn't look away. Wouldn't. Whatever terror was climbing up her throat, she refused to let him see it win.
Luca De Santis studied her for a long moment, dark eyes unreadable, as if he were memorizing something he already owned.
Then he spoke, and his voice was quiet enough that the whole room had to lean in to catch it.
"You belong to me now."
