round him, clinging to him as her body shook with quiet sobs. Her face pressed against his chest, and he could feel the warmth of her tears through his shirt, could hear the broken sounds she made as she finally let go of the weight she'd been carrying. For a brief moment, time seemed to pause. The only sound was her quiet crying and the distant hum of the city outside. Teddy stood frozen, his arms hanging limp at his sides, his mind a whirlwind of emotions-anger, betrayal, confusion, and a flicker of something that might have been pity. Then- Teddy's expression hardened. The last of his composure solidified into something cold and unyielding, like ice forming on still water. Slowly, firmly, he pried her arms off him, his hands gentle but deliberate as he separated their bodies. He pushed her away just enough to create space between them-space that felt like an uncrossable chasm. "I don't want to see you." His voice was low, controlled-but cold in a way she had never heard before, stripped of every ounce of warmth or affection he'd ever shown her. It was the voice of a stranger, of someone who had closed himself off completely. "I want to be alone." The words hit harder than any shout could have, landing with the finality of a judge's gavel. Caramel staggered back slightly, her face paling to an unnatural white, her tears still falling but her sobs stopping abruptly as if she'd been physically struck. She looked at him for a long moment, her eyes searching his face for any sign of the man she'd loved, any hint that he might still care. But there was nothing there. Just emptiness. "O-okay..." she managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. She nodded slowly, swallowing the pain that rose in her throat like bile, her hands trembling as she reached for her purse where it lay on the couch. She turned toward the door, each step heavier than the last, her legs feeling weak beneath her. The hallway outside seemed impossibly far away, and she had to steady herself against the wall for a moment as the weight of what she'd lost crashed down on her. But just before leaving, she stopped. Her hand rested on the cool metal of the door handle as she spoke again, her voice quieter now-fragile as spun glass. "Teddy..." She turned back to him, her eyes red and swollen, her face streaked with tears and smudged makeup. She looked broken in a way he'd never seen before, stripped of every layer of armor she'd ever worn. "Was our love... all these years... fake?" The question lingered in the air, hanging between them like a ghost. She held her breath, waiting for an answer that she already knew but needed to hear aloud. Teddy didn't answer. Didn't move. Didn't even look at her. His gaze was fixed on the wooden turtle in his hand, his expression completely blank, as if she were no longer in the room at all. And in that silence, she got her answer. Caramel closed her eyes briefly, as if steadying herself against a blow, then opened the door and walked out-this time without looking back. The door clicked shut behind her with a soft sound that echoed through the quiet room, leaving a stillness so complete it felt lik
