Gazing through the shallow way, she watched as the one who had become a part of her, walked down, full of happiness. She knew she was happy. She had talked about leaving this ugly place of no freedom for a long time and today, her prayers are being answered. Likewise, she gazed still, as they were no longer in sight. The prison warder who had taken her friend had warned her to speak no more word, since she attempted to talk. Just, as she was about to retire to her moody state, a hand reached for her palm.
She was locked inside, but one can place their hand through the protector, to touch another.
“Sonia, are you really leaving?”
She asked with teary eyes. She would rather not cry, no she wasn't going to cry, not after ten years. But, her best part leaving, makes it feel like the world has ended.
“Yes. Sonia, nodded hardly soothing her palms”.
“Is she going to stay here forever with you, criminal! Come on now, Sonia, your ward is waiting, don't let that bad egg influence you.”
The prison warder sneered rashly to Freya, who didn't speak any more word, rather staring at Sonia's face.
“It is alright Freya, look at me”
She turned Freya's face to look at her, using her fingers as she smiled while she spoke to her.
“Our stars will shine, and our luck come knocking. today, my helper has located me, as the Almighty remembered me. Don't worry, soon, you will leave this place, this world of no freedom”.
She assured with all certainty in her tone.
“When will that be? I have been in this jail for ten years! Ten years Sonia, no one has come to ask of me, no one had compassion on me. I'm suffering for a crime, I didn't commit! Everyone here bullied me, you were the only one who stood for me. Do you think the lord will remember me? No! Luck isn't on everyone's side”.
She lamented sorrowfully, crying seriously.
“You know, you don't have to cry please don't cry. I'm certain, your helper is on his way, whoever it is.”
Sonia assured, and just as she wanted to say something else, her ward called unto her.
“She is calling unto you, Sonia,”
Freya said, looking frightened at the police Lady, who had stood beside them.
“I know. I will leave now, please promise me, you will remain strong, and take care of yourself. Meanwhile, hold unto this pendant. I will miss you, I hope we see each other sometime.” she Said, sorrowfully, tangling their both fingers.
“I will appreciate it if you come visiting.”
Responded Freya, as she took the pendant, it was a waist bead.
“Sure!”
She answered with a smile as she was walked out by the prison warder. Freya, sobbed silently as other cellmates made jest of her. She didn't listen to them, as she hugged the pendant tightly, squatting in her spot.
“Hey! Why disturb the peace of this environment? Is she sentenced to death? You are crying because she is leaving?what sort of person are you?”
Said one of the cellmates angrily.
“She is a terrible girl, she doesn't want her to leave.” Said, another, twisting her damp hair forcefully.
“Your crime was too much! You both didn't commit the same crime, or did the both of you? Hahaha”.
Another pushed her head as he asked. But Freya, didn't say a word, instead, she sobbed the more, her tears flowing freely down her cheeks.
“No, this girl, is a criminal! I heard, she murdered the housekeeper of her Madam, and took all their money away! She has accused her aunt of that. Poor little thing, they thought. She was only thirteen, when she was jailed!not only that, she murdered her Madam Father, making it two…”
“How did you know that?” asked a lady in curiosity, cutting her short in her speech.
“Well, I heard it. I overheard it. But, I was here, when the warder, insulted her for coming to jail at an early age.”
She defended, sitting in a corner.
