"You're aware he has a massive crush on you, right?" Jennifer pointed out, a mischievous grin on her face, as we entered her apartment building.
"Who?" I asked, feigning innocence and acting oblivious to whom she was referring to.
"William, obviously. That guy practically drools over you," she teased.
"As if!" I scoffed, brushing off the notion.
"Do you think we got the day off just because?"
"Yeah, because the CEO's daughter happens to be my best friend."
Jennifer and I worked together at Castle Tech, she was the daughter of the famous tech guru "Maxwell Coltmen" and the owner of the company.
You would think having such a rich father would make her an executive but her father had a theory about starting from the bottom, hence making her a junior marketing staff just like the rest of us.
"You know I don't get any privileges for that," she remarked as we got into the elevator, she was right, no one gave her any special treatment, and she was treated just like the rest of us.
"Well, whatever feelings William has, he should better throw it in the trash" I declared,
William was infamous for his perverted and misogynistic views. He often made derogatory comments, asserting that women weren't fit for leadership and should stay beneath him.
"He better!" Jennifer chuckled, she hated William as much as I did but found it funny to tease me about the way he behaved around me.
"Listen, please don't tease me about William and his silly crush in front of Jake, you know how jealous he gets" I pleaded, as the elevator rang, and the automated doors opened.
My boyfriend Jake and Jennifer were family friends, they lived in the same building their fathers co-owned.
Jake was possessive and jealous, he was the reason I never had male friends.
"Jake has no right to be jealous" Jennifer spat, getting out of the elevator, as I followed.
"Besides, I am not following you to his apartment today, I have to get ready for the party" she danced.
Jennifer and I were opposites, while she loved going to parties and hooking up with random strangers, I preferred to stay at home.
"I can't believe you are not attending the party" she said, stopping halfway through the hall, castle tech was having a masked app launch party, which was compulsory for all staff.
Knowing I had Jennifer by my side, I was an exception to such rules.
"I would rather spend my weekend with my boyfriend" I bragged, I knew how much she disliked my relationship with Jake but I was happy, and her opinion didn't matter.
"I think he's going to propose" I whispered,
"I saw a ring by his bedside the other day" I blushed at the thought of spending the rest of my life with him, he was perfect.
"And you are going to say yes?" Jennifer asked the disappointment on her face was evident.
"Of course"
"Listen Em, you know Jake is a horn dog right?? He sleeps with everything on a skirt" she tried to warn but I shook my head.
