"Please, don't shoot. We can think of something else". The young woman begged tearfully.
"I gave you time, Natasha. Time I didn't even have!". He yelled loudly, knowing that nobody would hear him because of the loud music in the house.
She flinched as he brought the gun very close to her face.
"Now I'm going to pass a message to the other members of this family, and you are going to be my messenger, Tasha. What better day to do it but on the day of your daughter's birthday!". He smiled
She whimpered "I couldn't do it, I couldn't just kill my husband because of some sick bastard's insatiable desire for power". She said,
Her voice was no longer shaky.
He scoffed.
"Oh well, now I have to kill you in his stead. Bye bye". He replied.
She looked him square in the face, then subtly looked at the tiny figure hidden behind her dressing table and mouthed "I love you" just as he placed the gun directly on her heart and pulled the trigger.
He watched as her body fell slowly, then turned and looked all over the room. Everything was in place.
Good.
He looked at the silencer in his hand, cleaned it and put it back in his coat pocket.
"A waste of beauty". He said with disdain as he looked back at the dead woman. "If only you had followed my instructions, you'd be alive right now. But you choose love over money". He scoffed again.
The man opened the window quietly and in a blink, he was out of the room.
--------------
The little figure waited a full minute to make sure the bad man wasn't coming back.
Then she shakily stepped out from behind the table, she knelt down beside her mother. Her mama wasn't breathing.
Her mother was a doctor and had told her what to do in cases of emergencies and this looked like an emergency.
She took one last look at the lifeless body on the floor and bolted out of the room as fast as her five year old legs could allow.
--------------
The laughter from the party died down immediately they heard the sound of running feet coming from upstairs, nobody was allowed to run in the family, running was for poor people.
They were all ready to judge until they saw the child's distressed face, she was the celebrant, after all.
"Hey, slow down, pumpkin. What is wrong?". Her father asked.
"Mama is dead". She said without emotion.
Baron Antonio's world came to a standstill.
He was absolutely sure he didn't hear his daughter properly.
But he didn't wait to ask her if she was playing, after all five year olds didn't play with information like that. No matter how sick the child was.
He flung the glass of champagne he was holding and fled upstairs to the bedroom he shared with his wife.
The sight of his wife's lifeless body lying there and her eyes staring right at him made him so weak that he fell on his knees.
"Tash, baby. Wake up". He lightly shook her.
"Please Tash, what are you doing lying here like this? Please baby?". He begged tearfully.
A noise at the door made him turn sharply.
But it was just his family members.
His daughter was at the front, she had refused to be taken away. She wanted to stay with her father.
"Hey, Lia, come here my baby". He cooed.
She walked up to him and fell in his arms. He picked her up and cleaned his eyes.
