I stood in front of the tall building and I could feel my hands shaking as I looked up at it. The lights from the windows shone brightly but I felt like I was standing in darkness. My heart pounded, my legs felt weak, and every part of me wanted to turn around and leave.
But I couldn't, I can't when I know what is at stake! I knew If I walked away, Nathan's family would let me die.
I bit my lips and swallowed hard, my throat felt dry. Just a year ago, I had everything. A father who loved me, A husband I adored, and a life full of warmth and safety.
Now all of it is gone, yes! Gone!
My father was dead and my husband, the man I had loved with all my heart and had even disobeyed my father to marry was also gone. And all I had left was my weak, sick body and a company that was about to collapse.
I sighed softly-Nathan's family had no use for me anymore. They refused to help me get better. They made me depend on them, controlling my every move. And now, they have given me an order....To beg Damien Sinclair for help.
I had met him days ago. And I knew what he wanted in return which is something I deemed unacceptable-One night! Just one humiliating night.
I remembered how I had run away when he had told me his condition, But no matter how far I ran, the truth stayed the same.
Damien Sinclair was the only person who could save me. And the worst part is that this man was the man I had once humiliated in school.
I could remember back then he was just a quiet and awkward boy. Someone I had barely noticed and Someone Nathan, my late husband had also mocked for fun. But now... he was nothing like the boy I remembered.
He was rich. Powerful. Dangerous.
And he wanted revenge.
I clenched my fists, trying to push away the shame burning inside me.
I knew I had no choice, had to do it to save myself and for peace. I felt guilt grip me when I felt I was betraying my late husband but I had to harden my heart and do it!
Taking a deep breath, I forced my shaking legs to move and stepped inside.
The room was dark, with only a few golden lights casting soft shadows across the space. The large windows stretched from the floor to the ceiling which showed a breathtaking view of the city. But my eyes weren't on the view, it was only on one person, the man sitting in front of me.
Damien Sinclair.
My eyes roamed his body nervously. He sat in a black leather chair, his body relaxed, but there was something sharp in his posture, it was something dangerous like a predator who had been waiting so long for its prey which made me tremble in fear.
He was wearing nothing but a black silk robe which was loosely tied around his waist. The soft fabric slid open slightly, showing the hard muscles of his chest. His jet-black hair was a little messy like he had just stepped out of the shower.
And then there were his eyes.
Deep blue and his icy eyes which s
Pierce right through me.
I watched as he lifted a wine glass to his lips before taking a slow sip. His fingers were long and elegant, but there was something powerful about the way he held the glass-like even this simple movement was completely under his control.
I couldn't breathe, I felt suffocated and just stood nervously in front of him.
I waited for him to say something, but he didn't. He said nothing to me, he didn't smirk and did not mock me and all He did was watch.
And somehow I found that even worse.
I swallowed hard with my hands gripping the edge of my dress as I lowered myself onto the couch across from him. My body was stiff, my heart racing, but I forced myself to stay still.
The silence stretched between us, so Heavy and Suffocating, then after waiting for long I Finally heard him speak.
