Love Contract

AURORA'S POV

I groaned in my sleep when I heard my alarm ring for the fourth time. I was about to snooze it again when I accidentally glanced at the date and time and I realized it wasn't Saturday and I was late for work.

I jumped out of bed and dashed to the bathroom. I tried to brush my teeth, domy hair and take a shower simultaneously.

This was the fourth time I was going late this month and I couldn't afford any cuts in my pay check. I got diagnosed with diabetes a year ago and I need every dime I can get.

I hurriedly searched through my closet for any work-appropriate outfit that isn't rumpled. All I found was a short black and white dress that I hadn't worn in two years but I don't really have any other option so I wear the gown. I put my hair in a messy bun and threw some make up and jewelry in my purse. I'll put it on on the way. I thought to myself as I put on my black heel boots and leave my apartment.

I got to work just in time, 7:15 on the dot. I work at a cafe. Although we don't open until 7:30, staff working the morning shift must be at work by 7:15.

"Seems like you got lucky today Miss Montgomery."  My boss Mr Stone said as I clocked in.

"Seems so" I said flashing him a half hearted smile.

He just shakes his head and goes to his office

"He literally had your sack letter in his hand. If you had come in a minute later you'd be looking for another job right now." Freddie the bartender/one of my closest friends

I sigh dropping my bag in the staff locker room.

"What happened this time." He asked

"I over slept."

"Been cutting your dosage again?"

"It's about to run out and I don't have the money to refill it."

"¿Qué te pasa Aurora? This isn't the flu it's diabetes.Es jodida diabetes."

"Don't you think I know. It's not easy okay! The rent plus, food and gas and this sickness. It's Alot of stuff to pay for."

"You know you could always move in with me. You won't have to pay rent cause my mom owns the place and she loves you. I have a whole bedroom wasting away and my best friend is struggling to survive." Skylar, my best friend said joining us

"Just let us help you Bebita." Freddie adds in

I just smiled and hugged them. I know they'd do anything for me but I don't want to become a burden on them

"I should get to work." I said leaving them in the locker room

My shift went slowly. My head suddenly started spinning but I still try to pull through. "I go on break in 3 minutes, I can survive till then" I said to myself. As I took shaky steps towards the table I was serving I heard my monitor beeping. I tried to ignore it but I fell, spilling hot coffee on some random guy. I tried to get up to apologize but i just fell again. By this time my monitor was beeping rapidly. I saw Skylar walking towards me with my bag as I hoisted from the floor and taken outside.

"Diabetes?" I hear the guy who carried me out ask Skylar

"Yup"

"Does she have any glucose gel or insulin."

"She has one pouch of the gel and practically no insulin."

"She can't take the gel right now. Not while she's unconscious. Give her a shot of the insulin then we'll take her to the hospital."

Skylar brings out my kit and prepares the shot. That is the last thing I remember seeing before passing out.

I open my eyes and wince as the bright light enters my eyes. I hear the beeping of the machines and faint conversations.

"..........She just needs alot of rest and a healthy diet. And she shouldn't be cutting her dosage. She could have died."

"Thank you doctor, I'll ensure she does everything."

"Arrrggg" I groan as I try to sit up but feel extremely numb

"Ohh my gosh she's awake." Skylar says to the doctor as they both rush to my side.

"How are you feeling?" The doctor asked.
