Just A Stranger

Alara's POV

"I, Alpha Alexander Lakewood of the Lakewood pack, here by accept you, Alara to be my mate". The glass wine jar in my hand fell and broke to pieces. My body froze as I stood there on the stairwell in shock. I managed to turn around and immediately regretted it. Everyone's eyes were fixated on me. The sound of the shattering glass had drawn their attention. Their shocked gazes felt like a laser piercing my body at different points. Those who didn't know that I was the Alara being referred to, could immediately figure that out by the look of the situation at hand. I wished the ground would open up and swallow me up but that just didn't happen.

Alpha Alexander, the heir of the Lakewood pack had just returned from the city where he fled to years ago because of the resentment he had for his father, or so the rumors were. He was about to be compelled to marry the daughter of the Alpha of a neighbouring pack. Christine Starstone of the Starstone pack. This was supposed to be their engagement party. The atmosphere was thick with masked emotions that not everyone would notice. Who knew that it would be me, of all creatures that would be the scape goat for escape from his fate.

I hadn't met him before so I had no idea what he looked like and couldn't spot him amidst the good looking men of status on the raised platform before the crowd. Some I had seen a few times, while some I had never set my eyes upon. I could feel my chest tighten really hard. I could barely release short breaths that kept me from loosing consciousness. People kept looking at me, and whispering in low voices. I could tell by the look on their faces that whatever they were saying weren't good things about me.

I'm Alara Hekings. A she wolf who is unaware of the whereabouts of her parents or where she came from. The only information I had about my origin was what Aunt Madeline, one of the head maids who was like a mother to me, told me. She said that I was found lying in thin clothes by a pile of dirt and she picked me up. I was lucky to be rescued and brought up by her and so far, she has been the mother I never had. So given the circumstances, I'm an Omega.

My feet moved involuntarily for some reason and I stepped on a piece of glass that almost cut through the old brown sandals I had on, jolting me back to reality. The only thing my instincts could tell me was to clean up the mess I had made. I was about squatting to clean up when two fellow maids standing in either of my sides, stopped me like they were behind me the whole time waiting for this moment. I wasn't sure what they were trying to do but it was as though they were about leading me to the alpha that just chose me as his mate. Then there was a loud thud. Alpha Dominic, Alexander's father, stamped his foot on the ground drawing all attention from me to him. I felt a slight relief that was short lived. The maids let go of my arm.

Alexander would do anything to simply get on his father's nerves for reasons maids like me could only guess without being sure if we were right or wrong. There were only rumors that he resented his father since his mother died.

"Blasphemy!" His father yelled following his stamping of foot, rising hastily from his seat where he was sitting as he stared at alexander with angrily blazing eyes. The hall went completely silent. He broke the gaze and turned to me. My heart immediately sank.

"Seize her." , he commanded and as if they were waiting for the order since, two guards came to my sides and sized me by my hands and shoulders ready to drag me out of the hall.

"Alexander, see me in my chambers immediately" he was obviously very angry with Alexander but wouldn't let the world see him scolding an alpha heir. He headed for his chambers.

Despite the fact that I was locked up, I strained my ear to hear what the Alpha Dominic, Alex's father, and the Alex were discussing about three walls away. At most I might be beheaded, then my blood will be on the hands of that crazy crowned prince. I could hardly understand why he would drag me into their family issues. I was becoming paranoid and wanted to know my fate.
