As the night fell, the bustling streets outside were brimming with breathtaking lights and laughter which were in sharp contrast to the gloomy and silent atmosphere in the room.
Sitting in the empty bedroom with a face full of worry and sadness, Lola Nan held a thick stack of IOU notes in her hand which were given by the hospital.
"What should I do about this? Grandpa is in critical condition, but I don't have money to treat him."
Her grandpa, who had brought her up since she was young, was now seriously ill, but she could not do anything about it. She grabbed her hair bitterly and was wracking her brain for the huge amount of operation fee.
Her biological father had married another wife and left her, not bothering to care about her and grandpa at all. He only cared about his new wife and the new daughter.
Suddenly, she heard a creaking sound. The door of the bedroom was pushed open and a tall figure walked in.
"Patrick, you're back," said Lola, raising her head with joy and standing up immediately to greet the man who had come in.
Grandpa and Patrick Jiang's grandpa were good friends. The two had promised each other the marriage of their grandson and granddaughter when they grew up. Just like that, when the time came, Lola accepted the proposal of her family and married Patrick.
However, even if they had been married for more than a month now, Patrick had only come back home a few times, let alone stay in a room with Lola.
Not to mention that they didn't even hold a wedding nor did they arrange the wedding rings as a sign of their marriage. All they had was a marriage certificate.
"I have something to tell you, Lola," Patrick said in an anxious tone and walked up to Lola with quick strides.
As he approached, there was a flash of disgust at the sight of Lola in his eyes, but she didn't notice it.
"I also have something to talk to you," Lola replied. She fidgeted her fingers as she thought about where to start from.
"Alright. You go first." Patrick motioned her to talk while frowning slightly.
"My grandpa is sick and he needs money..."
Before Lola could finish her words, Patrick interrupted, "I also need money." After saying that, he directly threw a document in front of her and motioned her to check it.
"This is..."
"Something happened to my company recently and I need a lot of financial support to make it stable. So, you need to do me a favor."
Just as Lola flipped it open, the first thing she saw was a big word "Transaction" as the title of the document. As her eyes skimmed through the content, which was for her to accompany a certain rich man for a night for a compensation of one million dollars, her expression instantly became extremely terrified and she abruptly looked up at Patrick.
"You didn't read it wrong. You just need to accompany that man for one night. Maybe you don't even need to do anything. After that, I can immediately get the money, and your grandpa can also be treated right away." Patrick spoke those words ruthlessly in her face, as if he was talking about an extremely simple thing.
"I don't have to do anything? If it is really that simple, why do you still need me?" Lola felt shocked as if a lightning had struck her straight onto the head. Thinking that this situation was ridiculous, she couldn't accept it at all.
Her newly married husband just asked her to accompany others as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
Patrick was afraid that Lola wouldn't give in, so he gradually put down his arrogant posture and begged in a soft tone, "I beg you, Lola. You only need to stay there for one night."
That night, Lola fell into endless despair.
The call from the hospital rang loudly in the dark room, telling her that the treatment of her Grandpa's illness couldn't be delayed any longer.
Grief, humiliation and helplessness forced her to accept this shameful deal.
In the evening, when the sky was painted grey by the thunderstorm occurring somewhere, Lola was sent to a luxurious hotel room.
It was dark in the room with the occasional melancholic sound of strong wind blowing on the windows. Only a few rays of faint light came in through the crack of the curtain, accompanied by the cold wind, chilling the person who curled up on the bed.
Lola was lying on the white king size bed with her lips pressed tightly, trying hard to hold in her tears which nonetheless slid down from her cheeks, wetting the pillow.
After a while, the door was gently pushed open, and a tall figure approached the bed with a sense of oppression.
Hearing the steps that were like a hammer hitting her heart, Lola was so frightened that she closed her eyes and her whole body trembled fiercely.
"Are you clean?" The man's low and hoarse voice came with a touch of forbearance, making it difficult to hear what he was saying.
Lola didn't respond anything. She only lay there, curled up and trembled.
The next second, the man impatiently lifted her quilt and touched her exposed arm with his big hand.
"Ah!" The cold sensation made Lola scream and her eyes were filled with fear. Her inexperienced and innocent look quickly pleased the man.
"Good, you are my antidote tonight."
The two entangled and the temperature in the room was getting higher and higher. The strong wind didn't cease blowing on the windows, adding even more disturbance to the chaotic night.
It was destined to be a restless night.
In the morning, Lola was sent back to her house. She didn't get to know the name of the man, nor did she bother to, but she knew that he was very strong and his actions were domineering. After all, he tortured her for a long time.
After this incident, life seemed to return to peace. The fee of grandfather's operation was settled and Patrick's company was saved. However, Patrick never returned home again.
What broke her illusion of peacefulness of her life came a few months later. To her surprise, she found herself to be pregnant.
She considered about abortion as she fell into despair. How could she bear a child when her life was hard enough? However, that day when she was about to go on the procedure, she broke down into tears with hands on her stomach. How could she abort such a lively baby in her belly so cruelly?
After struggling and suffering day after day, Lola still kept the child. Patrick's coldness and ruthlessness made her sad every day, but she tried her best to focus on the child.
Until one night, when she was pregnant for seven months, she received a mysterious message.
Somehow, she had the bad premonition about it, but she still opened it out of curiosity. In an instant, the indecent photos on the message stung her eyes.
She scrolled through the photos one by one, all of which were photos of Patrick and her stepsister, Lorraine Nan.
There were photos of them passionately kissing, hugging, having sex...
Each photo clearly captured their faces and there were even several photos in which Lorraine deliberately faced the camera, with the provoking expressions as if she was showing off to Lola.
Lola's hands shook and she accidentally knocked over a glass of hot water on the table. The sound of shattering glass echoed in the room.
She knew that Patrick had no feelings for her, but how dared he hook up with her stepsister when he was married to her?
As Lola sat there, anger, humiliation and isolation broke her heart.
