[Prologue]
I lived a more comfortable life than average people, and a happy family composing of me and my siblings, my dad and my mom.
My Dad is a police officer and my mom is a doctor, and I am blessed to have them.
I have nothing to ask for because I know in myself that I am more than complete.
I have three older brothers, they’re Matthew, Keizer and Iñigo.
Brother Matthew, a higher ranking military man. Brother Keizer, on the other hand, is a famous psychologist, and he is known in the world, the most sought after because of his unparalleled talent. The last one is Iñigo, also a military officer like Brother Matthew, and they were both serving in the Philippines, our home, and we are happy they could come back home every holidays— we are happy as a family.
I am the youngest and I want to follow my Dad’s footsteps because he is a known and a good Police Chief in his station. Everybody loves and admires my Dad’s intelligence.
Because of that, I also studied very hard to achieve my dreams to be a police female officer, following my dad’s footsteps with my family’s wholehearted support behind my back. As a child, my father taught me how to use a gun and shoot, the first time scared me as I was afraid I might missed a shoot and hurt someone.
But when I was a child I was diagnosed to have a heart disease. My parents do everything in their power to help me find a heart donor. Because of that, my family became very protective of me, to the point that I couldn’t even go out on my own.
It’s also not easy because just a simple mishaps will hurt and could take the life out of me. There were many rules I have to follow. It also became dangerous because my father, despite being good, upright and outstanding, would still aroused the jealousy and hate of others— and that gave him enemies, after his life every second. As his family, that also made us a vulnerable target.
My older brothers were busy with their jobs and all I could do was watch it all unfold, watch them come and go, as I was on my tender age of 10 at that time. Me and my brother inherited my father’s blue eyes and it is one of the unique features we have. Brother Matthew have this electronic blue eyes and Brother Keizer, while Brother Iñigo and I have blue ocean eyes. And our beautiful mother have midnight sky eyes---so unique that my dad should have been captivated by that eyes, I bet.
I thought all of us would always be this happy but really in exchange for immense joy came the intense mourning and the unexpected event and what I feared fhe most was happening before my eyes.
“Eury, hide in the cabinet and don’t--- no, never come out until I say so, okay?” My mom calmly told me, although she was obviously in a hurry.
“Why Mommy?” I innocently asked her as I was looking at her.
“Just listen to Mommy, okay? Don’t come out until I tell you.” Mom said hugging me tightly.
“Remember that we love you so much and we’re doing this for you.” Mom's voice had that unhinted feeling of saying goodbye. But at that time, I didn’t notice anything.
Her eyes were moist with tears so I clumsily tried to dry them with my hands.
“Mommy, don’t cry okay?” I smiled at her, using my tiny little hands to touch her moist cheeks. “I will listen to mommy.” I added so she smiled sweetly at me despite the tears brewing in the rims of her eyes.
Suddenly, we heard shouting and gunshots echoing in our villa, so mom had to quickly put me in the cabinet and locked it.
I covered my ears as the series of gunshots bellowed, as my tears finally fell frantically when I realized they could hurt my mom. I also have difficulty breathing here in the cabinet.
“Where’s your daughter huh?” Was the first coherent words after the overwhelming noise around— that I heard.
“She’s not with me and even if she is, I won’t let you touch my daughter!” That was Dad’s voice.
Seeing a hole in the cabinet, I tried my best to look through it, while covering my mouth so I wouldn’t make any noise with tears gushing out from my eyes.
