"We are almost there. Get ready!", said her dad, driving through the open gate with a welcome poster on it.
Kathleen looked up closing her diary. The place was beautiful and contemporary. It was a busy, bustling place with students walking all around the campus.
Few students sat on the green meadow and continued chatting and doing their work. Kathleen looked around to make sure that she doesn't feel new to this place. Kathleen looked down at her right broken arm with a cast, which had a long story to tell. Her dad assured her that she will be alright and he made her believe that this place will change her future for sure. Kathleen removed her earphones and put those into the backpack along with her diary.
Her dad parked the car in front of the girls dormitory and unloaded the trunk.? Kathleen was hesitant to step out of the car and move towards her new life. Fear and anxiety about this new place was holding her back. She sat in the car looking around the new place through the window.
"Come on, kath! Get down. We are late already! You have classes to attend for the rest of the day", insisted Mr. Williams, Kathleen's father. He was right, they have arrived very late at the university by 12 noon.
Kathleen joined the university a bit late, that is, she was given admission here only after two weeks of the beginning of the semester. So, she thought it might be hard to know people since they would have known one another better before the time, she came here.
But, Kathleen hasn't come in the motive of making friends. She came here on her father's compulsion. Her father persuaded her in learning at the Howard University for the next 4 years of her life and made sure all the necessary arrangements was ready for her. She had no other go than to accept her father's decision, because he was right, she needed a change in life.
"So, my room number is 27?? And I have 2 more roommates to accompany me?!", she asked his dad doubtfully looking at the key he gave her, that he got from the office block of the university.
"Yes, and don't worry. You are going to be fine and amazing. You will rock this place for sure", Mr. Williams encouraged her and gave her a brief hug before telling her goodbye.
