The woods seemed to be sleeping, but Kaden knew that this sleep was deceptive. He stopped at the edge of a dark clearing, his senses alert. Every rustle of a tree, every crack of a branch contained a threat. His golden eyes scanned the darkness, searching for what he could not yet see but felt, just beyond the veil.

Elira's gaze darkened. She knew his stubbornness, but she had a feeling that his stubbornness was leading them straight to disaster. Kaden led the pack with a firm hand, but brute force would no longer be enough in a world where enemies learned to track them, to defeat them.

A distant noise sounded, followed by a silence that seemed to last forever. The murmur of the woods had stopped. Kaden turned his head, his gaze piercing, while a shudder ran through the ranks.

"Training," he ordered, his voice cutting.

The wolves complied. Accustomed to obedience, they quickly placed themselves in a defensive circle, the strongest on the outside, ready to absorb the first shock. Kaden took his place at the front, his imposing figure a reminder that he was more than a leader: he was a force in his own right.

Darian , the young wolf, placed himself at his side. His movements were lively, almost nervous. Impatience emanated from him like heat, an energy difficult to channel.

Kaden led the charge. In his lupine form, he was immense, a mass of black muscle whose luminous eyes betrayed a cold and implacable intelligence. His first opponent had no time to react: he was thrown to the ground by the impact, his throat torn before he even understood what had hit him.
