Chapter 1 Chapter 1

On the day of our engagement banquet, it should have been a moment when William and I were immersed in happiness.

However, halfway through the celebration, he suddenly received a call from his childhood sweetheart, Vivian.

Without a moment's hesitation, he abandoned me and rushed off to see her.

When he finally arrived, Vivian was standing on the sidewalk.

At the very instant she looked up, she caught sight of my slightly swollen pregnant belly.

Her entire body froze in place.

Suddenly, a car came hurtling towards us.

In the blink of an eye, it showed no sign of slowing down and was hurtling straight for Vivian.

Amidst a sharp screech of brakes and the horrified gasps of onlookers, Vivian was flung into the air and landed heavily on the ground. William went berserk.

He sprinted to Vivian's side and scooped her up in his arms, howling for an ambulance.

Vivian was rushed to the hospital, and after hours of arduous surgery, her life was saved, but her spine was severely damaged, leaving her with a fracture.

To make matters worse, following a series of subsequent tests, the doctor informed her that she had contracted ALS.

William was plunged into a bottomless pit of self - blame and agony. He was consumed by the need to care for Vivian.

Every day, he shuttled between the hospital and the rehabilitation center, accompanying her through the most arduous of recovery exercises, offering words of comfort and encouragement.

I, on the other hand, was left to watch his every move as he toiled away for another woman.

My pregnant belly grew larger day by day, and I was doubly tormented by both physical discomfort and mounting psychological stress.

But William seemed to have completely forgotten my existence.

William spun around abruptly to face me.

"No way?" he echoed, his eyes wide with shock.

I enunciated each word clearly, "I don't agree."

My tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.

As an alpha's daughter, I was used to having my decisions respected, and this was no exception.

William's expression froze instantly.

At that moment, Vivian, who had been snuggled in his arms, finally spoke up.

Her eyes were rimmed red, and her voice trembled with just the right amount of vulnerability and self - pity.

"William, I should have known this would happen. I was foolish to hope. I'll just leave. I never should have come and caused trouble between you two. How could I let my problems be the reason for your argument?"

As she finished speaking, she lowered her head slightly, and a single, glistening tear rolled down her cheek.

"Vivian got hurt at our engagement party. I can't just turn my back on her. If you don't agree, then we might as well call off the wedding,"

Just as I remembered it from that fateful time, a strange sense of relief washed over me.

In truth, we had never been a perfect match.

I was the daughter of the alpha of the Silvermoon Pack.

William, on the other hand, hailed from a humble background.

William had always been disdainful of my carefree ways.

I often followed him around, much to his annoyance.

It was I who had begged my parents to arrange this union.

I was smitten with him, blinded by my feelings.

After that, he had worked closely with my father.

He was a hard - worker, and with his own efforts and my father's support, when my father stepped down as alpha, William was elected to take his place.

"Fine, the marriage is canceled."
