Savannah felt it, something was wrong.
She turned her head and looked at Ryan, he didn't have that soft gentle smile he always had while looking at her as his eyes ... .his eyes were different, there was no love, no hate, it was empty.
"Are you alright....?"
She asked in a shaky voice. The world around her was dark and quiet. They were in a forest. He has fought with some rogue wolves who not only injured him, but left him bleeding till he was at the brink of death.
She couldn't bear to see him in such a state as her heart felt like it would explode. So she did it. She used her powers to heal him. It destroyed her. She knew the sacrifice she just made. She lost the ability to change to a wolf, she lost the ability to heal. She was almost utterly useless. But it was worth it. She loved him. He loved her. It was a sacrifice she didn't regret. But yet something felt disturbingly off.
He snarled as he tried to stand. The fight made him weak, but other than that he felt brand new, the new surge of energy felt so pure, his energy completely returned to him.
Her heart dropped as tears formed in her eyes. Ryan wouldn't turn his back on her....they had gone through so much together, it wasn't possible.
His back was turned on her as he held his bloody sword in his hands. She was useless to him now. But the words of the witch still echoed in his head. She was a threat to his clan....he had to get rid of her
He slowly turned around to see the completely pale Savannah as he clutched his sword tighter.
"You foolish.... foolish girl"
Those words....it hit her like a brick. Her eyes watered as she looked into the eyes of her so-called mate.
They were different
"I have no use for you any longer Savannah"
He spat out with so much hatred.
Saying that he stuck the sword to her stomach as she coughed up blood. It won't be long till she dies. Smiling to herself, she felt him draw back the sword as blood gushed through her stomach.
She should have known....she should have been more careful, but she still didn't want to believe it
Looking into the eyes of Ryan, she searched desperately for the love that was there, but she was met with hate and mockery.
"Ryan....Why?"
She uttered in shock, she couldn't form more words, but she didn't think more words were needed.
Snarling at her, he struck his sword again, but this time it was to her heart.
"You're useless to me"
Everywhere turned dark as she felt her spark leave her body. Suddenly she felt her eyes flutter again as she realized she was given another chance to live. This time she swore that she would be a slave to no one....she must have her revenge on Ryan...but she has to survive first.
Taking one deep breath, she woke up in the palace chambers, her bed drenched in her sweat, as she held her heart.
"My lady...thank God you're up"
A servant said in a tone underlying mockery.
She was back at the castle. Her eyes rose up as she for the first time detected the hatred in every word the servant uttered. It was laced in concern, but it was there, the sheer hatred....how has she never noticed this before.
Savannah smiled, she had to leave the clan, there was nothing left for her here. But she couldn't act rashly.
"Where's Ryan?"
She asked in her normal soft tone and at the corner of her eye she caught the raised lips of the servant. How did she miss such obvious details before?
"The master is in the dining hall"
"Mmm"
She murmured as she tried mapping out plans to leave this sickly place without raising any kind of suspicion.
"Your bath has been drawn my lady"
Savannah was getting irritated hearing her tone, and she had more important matters to dwell upon
"You can go"
She dismissed her, as she for the first time in ages she actually took a look around her.
It was no news that the Alpha took interest in a simple orphan, to the point of taking her everywhere he went. It was a fairytale to women, and it was rumoured that she was his Luna. She was leaving the dream. Her room, although not the Alpha's room, was decorated in luxury. She was just a servant, a mere wine holder. So the transformation not only shocked the other servants, it also enraged them. But she was too naive to notice. She was living in the bubble Ryan created for her to take interest in anything else.
She took her bath and dressed up as she headed to the dining hall. She passed a number of servants, but as they bowed, she felt hostility. It was a cold feeling, how could she be so blind. She heard the whispers behind the walls for the first time. And it struck her. She was no royalty here, she didn't even have the respect of anyone. She was being used right from the very beginning, everyone knew...every single one except her.
Then she saw him, she came face to face with Ryan as she unconsciously placed her hands on her stomach.
Seeing this unusual movement, Ryan immediately rushed to her side as he looked at her with care in his eyes.
But Savannah wasn't so blind anymore. He didn't care about her, he didn't love her. His eyes were never laced in love or care. It was her. She made it up, she trusted him so much that she imagined what was never there.
He held her ever so gently as he escorted her to the table and he helped her sit.
"Are you okay Savannah?"
She felt like she could throw up. This was not the same voice he called her with that night. This one was more polished, softer. How good of an actor he was, and how foolish of a spectator she proved herself to be.
But she wouldn't be so foolish ever again, not to him.
"I'm fine Ryan"
