Mom had a heart attack and needed money to save her life. I gathered enough courage before deciding to go to the billionaire and hidden boyfriend for ten years to borrow money. But before I could speak, I was scolded out of the conference room by my boyfriend with a cold face. "Get out, is my conference room worthy of an employee of your level?" I was immediately asked to wait outside the conference room by his competent female secretary. The wait was eight hours. Until the hospital called to notify me of my mom's death. My boyfriend seemed to remember me only then and had his female secretary place me in his office. "Tell me what you came to see me about." A miserable snort escaped my lips. "Nothing, I just wanted to hold you up a bit and break up with you."

Chapter 1

My mother had a heart attack and needed money to save her life.

With all the courage I could muster, I decided to ask my wealthy boyfriend, Brenden Davies, who had kept our relationship hidden for ten years, for financial help.

But before I could even say something, Brenden scolded me out of the meeting room with a cold face. "Leave now! Are employees at your level allowed to enter my conference room?"

Immediately, his competent female secretary ushered me out to wait outside.

I waited outside for eight long hours until I received the heartbreaking call from the hospital with the news of my mother's death.

It was only then that Brenden seemed to remember me, instructing his secretary to let me into his office. "Tell me, what do you want to see me about?"

A bitter smile crept onto my lips. "Nothing much. I just wanted to take a bit of your time to break up with you."

"I've just ended a ten-year relationship. Are you really sure you want to marry me?"

The man sitting across from me was silent for a moment before solemnly saying, "Emely, I've been waiting for you for ten years."

My heart missed a beat.

"Alright, we'll get married in seven days." After making this deal, I picked up my bag and left the café, heading to the train station.

This was the third day since my mother passed away.

During these three days, I was inconsolable, crying every day. Everyone around me knew my mother had died, except for my boyfriend of ten years, Brenden.

We never shared our social circles.

He never introduced me to his friends, nor did he care to meet mine.

Moreover, with Brenden being a billionaire, every minute of his time was worth thousands.

He would never lower himself to spend time in my social circle.

Not only did he not know that my mother was dead, he didn't even know that my mother died because I didn't have the money to pay for the surgery.

So, when my mother's ashes were buried, I decided to end things with Brenden and marry another man.

A cold rain began to fall, and my phone rang at the perfect moment.

The message was from Brenden's secretary, Armando Mason. "Miss Marsh. Mr. Davies will be on a business trip tomorrow. Please prepare two pairs of leather shoes and three suits for him."

Looking at the authoritative tone of Armando's message, even though I had already decided to break up with Brendan, I still felt sad.

Throughout the ten years of my relationship with Brenden, Armando's presence was almost constant in our love life.

If I sent Brenden a message to act coquettishly, Armando would reply, "Sorry, Miss Marsh. Mr. Davies is in a meeting. I will relay your message."

Even our daily life, including buying condoms, groceries, clothes, and everyday attire, was almost managed by Armando.

I disliked it and argued with Brenden about it countless times.

But each time, Brenden would calmly look at me and said, "Emely, you lack taste and appreciation. I have Armando, who is more capable, to help you. What's there to argue about?"

In the past, I didn't know how to respond to him.

But now, I had accepted my fate.

Indeed, how could I, a graduate from a regular local university, compare to Armando, who graduated from a prestigious international university?

She had seen the world, could negotiate with clients, and efficiently manage Brenden's daily life.

Unlike me, who had worked at Brenden's company for ten years, yet was only an unimportant employee in the Operations Department.

But now I sneered. Since Brenden valued Armando so much, I might as well let Armando have him.

I immediately replied to Armando, "Armando, I don't have time to prepare clothes for Brenden. If you don't mind, you can personally go to his house and prepare them for him."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
