But beneath her role as the dutiful wife lies a secret: she is the founder of NovaDyn, a billion dollar tech empire built in silence. After years of hiding, Sienna rises from the ashes of her broken marriage, revealing her true identity to the world. Now, with the betrayal haunting her and her empire on the line, Sienna and Ethan must confront their past and the unresolved passion still lingering between them.

Chapter 1 The Anniversary Envelope

The rooftop shimmered beneath a canopy of gold and moonlight, the New York skyline stretching behind the velvet draped terrace like a loyal witness. The air was warm with champagne breath and the low hum of elite conversation. Strings of amber fairy lights twinkled like suspended fireflies above a marble floor, and somewhere in the corner, a jazz trio bled elegance into the evening.

Sienna Carter stood by the edge of the railing, fingers curled around the crystal stem of her untouched glass. Her gown a fitted sheath of obsidian silk with a plunging back and a slit that sliced up one leg reflected the evening lights like liquid night. To the world, she was the perfect billionaire's wife poised, graceful, silent. The kind of woman who knew how to smile just enough, speak just little enough, and wear expensive discomfort like second skin.

But tonight, she wasn't here to be seen.

Tonight, she was here to disappear.

"Happy tenth anniversary, Mrs. Carter."

The voice behind her curled like smoke against the base of her neck calm, composed, and clinical. She turned to find Ethan, her husband at least for the next few minutes standing a step behind her, dark suit tailored to predatory precision, jaw freshly shaved, his expression carved in stone.

He extended an envelope.

Thick. Heavy. White. Sealed.

Sienna blinked once. Then twice. Slowly, she reached for it. Her manicured fingers brushed his. Her smile did not break.

She already knew what was inside.

The divorce papers were dated two days ago. Witnessed. Filed.

Signed by him.

"Is this... your gift?" she asked softly, her voice a melody in a minor key.

Ethan's gaze searched her face, lingering for a second too long on her eyes, as if waiting for something to fracture. "You always said you wanted freedom."

"You always said you wanted loyalty," she said, tucking the envelope into her clutch without a flinch. "It seems neither of us got what we wanted."

A beat of silence. Then he turned, walked away no ceremony, no remorse.

Sienna stood still as the city buzzed around her, her pulse thunderous beneath her skin. Ten years. Ten years of silence, sacrifice, shadow. And he ends it here, like this on a rooftop filled with cameras and couture.

She swallowed hard.

But she didn't fall apart.

Not yet.

Because in seven minutes, the press would receive a scheduled email an exclusive reveal that would detonate across every major media outlet before midnight.

Sienna Cross, the name she had buried, the identity she had mothballed, would rise again.

And the world would learn what Ethan Carter never bothered to ask.

She wasn't just his wife.

She was NovaDyn.

Inside the ballroom, murmurs swelled like tidewater as the couple's brief exchange trickled into high society gossip. Ethan stood by the bar, jaw clenched as he stared into a glass of Macallan he didn't seem to taste. His friend and COO, Nathan Royce, slid beside him.

"Bold move," Nathan muttered. "Ending it tonight? In public?"

Ethan's lips pressed into a thin line. "It was time."

Nathan glanced across the room. "You know she's trending on fashion blogs already? They're calling her 'the Ice Queen of the Gala.'"

"She always was beautiful," Ethan said, his voice tight.

"She was always brilliant too," Nathan said, more pointedly. "But you never saw that, did you?"

Ethan didn't answer. Instead, his eyes drifted to the large screen behind the stage, where a pre looped montage of Carter Enterprises' charitable contributions played. The image of Sienna cutting a ribbon at a school in Kenya came on. She'd worn no makeup, had dust on her heels, and still managed to look like a queen among ruins.

He looked away.

Back on the terrace, Sienna stood beside a marble column, one hand on her hip, the other tapping a countdown into her smartwatch. Five minutes.

She glanced toward Ethan through the glass doors. His back was stiff, shoulders square, his reflection flickering against the ballroom's mirrored wall like a ghost too stubborn to leave.

She had loved him once.

Foolishly. Fully. Quietly.

And maybe that was the real mistake.

Not the marriage.

Not the secrecy.

But loving a man who only saw her as a pawn in a life he already planned.

Sienna turned and walked to the edge of the terrace, just as her assistant, a redhead named Elsie, slipped beside her with a soft, "Ma'am... it's done."

Sienna didn't blink. "Who picked it up first?"

"Bloomberg. The Times is four minutes behind. The tech blogs are catching up."

"And the headline?"

"'NovaDyn CEO Revealed: The Billionaire Behind the Curtain is... Sienna Cross.'"

Sienna smiled.

A real one this time.

Two minutes later, a ripple of gasps spread through the ballroom like shattering glass.

Ethan's phone vibrated violently. Then Nathan's. Then nearly every guest's.

He looked up. The screen had changed. It now bore a breaking news banner in crimson.

NovaDyn CEO Unmasked.

Founder S.C. confirmed as Sienna Cross née Sienna Gray Carter.

Secret Billionaire Behind Disruptive Tech Firm Steps into Light.

He stood frozen, jaw slack, eyes pinned on the screen like it had just committed treason.

Nathan let out a long, low whistle. "Well. Damn."

Ethan looked over his shoulder slow, mechanical toward the terrace.

She was standing there, in that night black gown, backlit by the skyline, a goddess cloaked in vengeance and velvet. Her chin was lifted. Her posture regal. And her expression?

It was the same as it had been ten years ago at the altar.

Beautiful. Controlled.

Unreadable.

Only now he knew what he hadn't seen then.

She had never needed him.

She had only chosen to stay

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
