Chapter 1

I concealed my identity as a princess and married a mere scholar, Rhett Murphy.

Unexpectedly, after he became the top scholar in the highest imperial exams, he thought my lowly status was unworthy of him. He tried every means to break up with me and marry a high official's daughter.

But he didn't know I could ruin his career as an official of the government with a single word.

-

Three years had passed since I got married to Rhett. Over these three years, we spent a happy time and developed a close bond. He studied diligently day and night and hoped to distinguish himself in the imperial competitive exams and become an official. I supported him by mending clothes and managing household expenses.

However, everything changed after he became the top one in the highest imperial exams. In the beginning, I thought that now he could finally hold his head high. Before his success, we lived in poverty despite my dowry, and he was often mocked for his failures, as he had been trying for years without success. Now, with his achievement, he could finally prove himself.

Moreover, there was another piece of good news: that I was pregnant.

This was unexpected, and I wasn't prepared for a baby.

But it seemed fortuitous that I discovered my pregnancy when Rhett's success was announced.

I was thrilled. Although I didn't expect to have the baby, it would bring us even more joy.

I decided not to tell Rhett about the pregnancy immediately and planned to surprise him when he returned after meeting my father, the emperor.

However, things didn't go as planned.

After coming back from the emperor's place, Rhett became silent. At dinner, I tried to tell him about my pregnancy but was scared to shut my mouth by his somber expression. I assumed my father had been hard on him. I was puzzled how my father knew about Rhett, as I had cut ties with my parents' family before marrying Rhett without revealing his identity to my father. I had even slipped past the guards arranged by my father to marry Rhett secretly.

Could it be that Rhett was unfamiliar with the court's etiquette and had offended my father?

Seeing Rhett's unhappy face, I decided to keep my pregnancy a secret and write to my brother to figure out the situation.

But before I could write the letter, I realized it was unnecessary.

Rumors spread that Rhett was engaged to the prime minister's favorite daughter.

He was cold at dinner and absent from home for several days because he despised my status, as I told him I was the daughter of a business family. He believed I only had some money and was unworthy of him now that he had achieved great success. He planned to cast me out.

He truly was something else.

I was glad I hadn't told him about my pregnancy.

If I were an ordinary woman, I might have succumbed to despair and died in bitterness. Even if I resisted, I couldn't have stood against the prime minister's immense power.

If I had died, I would have been buried casually and wouldn't be remembered in Rhett's family tree. And Rhett would have married a daughter from a prestigious family, achieved fame and fortune, and enjoyed a happy life.

Unfortunately for him, I was of noble birth, the emperor's daughter. I hid my identity not because I was obsessed with him.

If Rhett had been honest and loyal to me, I could have revealed my identity after his success, making our marriage a celebrated union of a princess and a top scholar.

Rhett would have been a valuable ally in my plans.

Now that he intended to dump me, he shouldn't blame me for being ruthless.

But the baby in my belly would inevitably be caught in the crossfire.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.
