After I had completed the application for my son's admission to Harvard University, my best friend brought her son to me and knelt down in front of me, crying and telling me that the child was ill and needed a kidney transplant. But when they found out, it turned out that eighteen years ago, the child had held the wrong person. Looking at the emaciated child who had been raised poorly by my best friend over the years, I coldly refused her proposal to replace the kidney. After all, my own son, how could I make a mistake like that?

Chapter 1

I watched Norene Nash sobbing, while a young boy beside her looked at me with longing eyes. A nerve was twitching in my temple.

I had just returned from abroad with my son, and the jet lag was still hitting me hard. I had a splitting headache from the chaos caused by these people in front of me.

"Norene, are you saying that Phil Ransom is actually my son? And my son, Eduardo, is actually your son?" I asked.

I watched Norene nodding while her eyes frequently darted upstairs. She seemed to expect Eduardo to come down to hear the story that the two babies had been taken back by mistake eighteen years ago.

Unfortunately, after Eduardo returned from abroad, he had been called back by my father, a professor at a top university in the country, and hadn't come home.

Norene nodded and said in a choked voice, "Jemma, I know it's hard for you to accept the fact right away. But it's the truth. I've already had Phil and your husband, Tristan, undergo a paternity test, and Phil is indeed his son."

As she spoke, she handed me the test report.

I flipped to the page with the conclusion. It read, "Based on the available data and DNA analysis results, it is confirmed that Tristan Moore is Phil Ransom's biological father.

"Honey, this situation..." Tristan Moore, my husband, wrapped his arm around my shoulders and let out a heavy sigh. "When I saw the report, I found it hard to accept, too. I've already arranged for someone to investigate what happened back then. This matter definitely needs accountability."

He paused. Seeing that I didn't say anything and seemed to agree with him, he continued, "Our family is in a better position, and you have brought up Eduardo with great effort. You must be reluctant to part with him. How about we raise both of them together?"

"That's right, Jemma. I won't break the bond between you and Eduardo. I want to join you." Norene said.

She nervously sat down beside me. Her cold hands gripped mine, and I felt like I was gripped by a viper, which tightened my heart. She continued, "We grew up like sisters. Didn't we say before giving birth that we'd be each other's children's godmothers?"

I was about to respond when Tristan said with a pained expression, "Jemma, Phil is seriously ill. He needs a kidney transplant. I've already arranged for some people to look for a matched donor. And Norene is Eduardo's mother. Why not let her go to Mosian with Eduardo now? We'll stay here to treat Phil. Once he's better, we can visit Eduardo then, okay?"

"No way!" I took my hand back from Norene's grip, stood up from the sofa, and faced both Norene and Tristan. I said coldly, "I don't believe this test report!"

Norene instantly became anxious. She looked at me with red eyes and said, "Jemma, what do you mean by that? How could I joke about something like this?"

"Jemma, I know it's hard for you to accept. If you don't believe it, you can choose one lab you trust to have the test done." Tristan looked at me helplessly. He sounded as accommodating as ever.

"Fine!" I nodded. Then I looked at Tristan and Norene with a slight smile. "I'll have both Eduardo and Phil tested this time."

"No way!"

"It's not necessary."
