My sister was sold. To see her again, I married my sister's husband. My sister had a hard time here. I wanted to take her away, but she was extremely reluctant and even blamed me for taking her husband away. I found out that this village would sacrifice women every 15th day due to superstition. So I was even more determined to take my sister away. But on the day of the plan, she knelt down and begged me to spare the villagers. She said she couldn't go back and had got used to the life here. I never refused my sister's requests. But when I reached the top of the mountain and saw the raging fire behind me, I realized that my sister didn't want me to have blood on my hands. But my sister said she would always be with me. This time, even if it's the netherworld, I will accompany her.

Chapter 1

My elder sister, Carly Lambert, was trafficked when she was 19 years old.

My father, Colin Lambert, claimed that she led a better life there.

When I saw Carly again, she had forgotten about me.

She was locked in a shed, and her children were taken away one by one.

I volunteered to become her husband's wife.

Colin was happy after hearing my decision and praised me for being so considerate.

But after I was sent there, I realized that I had to sleep with three men, two days each.

That suited me just fine as I could handle them all at once.

Carly wasn't a virgin when she got married, and only I knew that secret.

She warned me never to tell anyone else, or she'd be beaten to death.

I once caught her engaging in secretive behavior with a guy whom I didn't know.

I was ten years old back then and didn't understand what it meant in a feudal rural area.

I just thought I had stumbled upon a huge secret.

The following summer, Carly told me she was getting married.

I couldn't understand why she was so sad that she cried all night, and her pillow was soaked.

I asked Colin if getting married was a dreadful thing.

He said, "Don't listen to Carly's nonsense. She's going to live a good life."

I replied happily, "Then I want to get married, too."

Colin looked me up and down and said, "You are too young to get married. Otherwise, I will marry you at the same time. Just wait a bit longer."

The day before Carly's wedding, she talked to me for a long time, but I didn't quite understand her.

She told me to run away if I ever got the chance, but why would I run away? It was our home.

She urged me to protect myself and delay getting married as long as possible.

She also asked me to study hard and earn her share of freedom in the future.

Carly talked a lot, and even when I fell asleep, she kept talking.

After all, she had raised me since we were a little girl. Colin didn't care about us, so we had to rely on each other.

At Carly's wedding, there was no sacred church or fancy white dress.

Just an old man hunched over to take her away.

Carly's hands were tied with a rope, and the old man led her like a dog.

She didn't resist, but I saw her eyes under the red veil.

They were lifeless and blank. She seemed to be dead meat without a soul.

So Carly disappeared from my life and never went back.

Colin said she was ungrateful because she never sent a penny to him.

My resentment towards her grew. I couldn't understand why she never came back to see me.

As time passed quickly, I grew up.

I was eighteen now. It had been seven years since Carly got married.

I was well known to be beautiful throughout the neighboring villages.

They call me the village's prized beauty.

Lately, I noticed Colin's gaze becoming increasingly strange when he looked at me, and he often secretly entered my room at night.

But I always saw through him, and he would run away in a panic.

I knew what he wanted to do, but thankfully, he still had a shred of humanity.

When I returned home with my offer from a prestigious university, I saw a familiar face.

It was Kory Ransom, who took Carly away.

I hid behind the door to eavesdrop on the conversation between Colin and Kory.

Kory said, "Carly wasn't even a virgin. How dare you ask for such a high price this time?"

Colin replied, "I didn't know it. But my younger daughter is top-notch. What I ask won't change. You have to pay such a price."

Kory sighed, "Fine. I'll bring my son to marry her in a few days."

Colin never saw us as his daughters, just as commodities to be traded.

He let me go to high school just because my academic performance was the best in the entire school. That was what he could boast about to others.

Even though I was the top at my school, he still made the same choice.

I knew I couldn't change his decision and that resistance was futile for me.

So I talked to him that evening. "Dad, I want to get married, so you can earn more money."

He was visibly pleased and praised me for being understanding.

In just a few days, I would meet Carly again.
