Chapter 1 Sold like cattle

When Ivy is rejected by her predestined mate and hurled into the dungeon, she thinks her story is over. But fire does not die, it waits. Ivy is rescued by an enemy Alpha who does not believe in bonds. Ivy finds out that she has a legacy to claim that is drenched in blood and a child that is developing inside her that may very well change the future of the werewolf world.

With a war between cursed kings and shattered packs, Ivy has to rise from omega to leader and burn the crown that tried to shut her down.

She was born to be rejected.

Now she is ready to be remembered.

I stayed in the corner of the cold stone, pulling my knees to me as strong gusts of wind came in through the broken window of my attic. The blanket I was wearing wasn't delivering any heat to me. I felt pain in my bones, hunger in my stomach, and my heart's pounding was louder than the storm happening.

They kept searching in and around the building again. Shouting. Always shouting.

"Ivy!"

Anger could be heard in my foster father's voice as he yelled up the stairs. Come down right away!

I rushed to my feet and hurried down the noisy staircase, not paying attention to how the left part of my foot still hurt from Rhea's boiling water "happenstance."

I went into the living room and discovered everyone was sitting there. Rhea sprawled comfortably on the couch, with an evil grin showing on her painted face. My foster mother Miriam stood by with a tea in hand; her eyes looked empty and blank. In the middle, Foster Father was like a hard unmovable rock that seemed cruel.

In one hand he had a parchment, and in the other a glass of scotch. I caught my breath with surprise.

What is it? In a quiet voice, I said, "I asked, . . ."

Rhea laughed. "This is going to be something you really enjoy, runt."

He threw the paper so that it landed at my feet. The ads are aiming to sell you something.

For a moment, my breathing stopped as if I was paralyzed.

"What...?"

Pondering began, "To the Lycan King of the Crimson Moon Pack," and it came out in an almost casual manner. You'll pass on your husband's line by having a child. After that stage, you have the freedom to move wherever you wish.

They felt like a blade going right into my chest.

"No," I said, and my knees wouldn't hold me up. "Please-don't make me suffer like this,"

"Do you think you are in charge of this?" Rhea snorted. You are a pain to deal with. The individual known as the cursed omega. You've only spent your life eating and sleeping on this farm ever since your parents died.

Tears filled up my eyes. My parents were killed as they protected the wolf pack from a rogue attack. Five years old was how old I was. For a long time, I kept dreaming about mother's red dress and father's last cry before the angry men put an end to him.

Now we have this additional issue to deal with?

"I wish that I would die instead," I said, my body shaking. Don't let him find out about what I have done. The comedian is famous for-he is.

"Cruel?" Miriam smiled in a slight manner. "Exactly. Maybe he will hurt you so badly that you can't recover.

I turned to Foster Father pleadingly with words I could not say.

He finished the last part of his scotch and put down the glass. If you do not listen, you will be cut off the family. Homeless. Useless. No food. No protection. No name."

I ran.

Outside the house and through the rain, I ran with fast steps toward the edge of where my pack lived. I kept hiking even if the thorns pricked my feet and the wind heed me in the face. I took off and didn't stop running until I got far from the place behind me.

But I did not go very far.

People found me a short distance from the river. Two enforcers. I could tell how both feeling mixed in their looks. I fought and cried as they took me back. On that night, I ended up being locked in the cellar. The next day started my trip.

Getting to the Crimson Moon Pack took a lot of time and was very quiet. Between two security guards, I was seated in the back of a black SUV that was noisy. I was handcuffed, though I was just an overwhelmed girl who looked like she was close to giving birth and had injuries and tears on her face.

There before them were the Crimson Moon Pack gates, huge and wrought of black iron, decorated with the Lycan King's symbol: a red moon over a fierce wolf.

After the car stopped, I got out of the vehicle, with my legs shaking. There was a tall, keen servant standing by to greet me. She didn't show her happiness with a smile.

Come this way, she told me.

Head down, I walked behind her through many winding halls and did my best not to be amazed by all the elegance around us. Here I found something much different than the unstable homes the Shadowfangs had. That was exactly what wealth meant. Power. Death.

She came to a thick wooden door and knocked only once.

A deep voice inside said in a threatening way, "Enter."

My stomach turned around in a knot.

The stranger pushed me inside right after opening the door.

And soon there he was.

Lycan King Damien.

He was close to the window, his shoulders wide and his stance like a statue's, all in black. He looked like he just ended a battle as he stood, with hair almost as black as night and eyes that pierced me sharply.

The whole area felt cramped and captivated by his strong personality.

The moment mine and his eyes connected, a pang of pain hit my heart. My ribs feel like they are burning hot, all in a rush of pale orange flames. The feeling of my wolf whimpering came over me.

Mate.

I almost couldn't stand because my knees were so tired.

Still, after what Damien had done in the past, he didn't feel comfortable.

His mouth turned up at one side. The hairs on his nostrils stood up.

You?" he said scornfully.

I became very still and trembled.

His tone changed to a dangerous deep growl. The Moon Goddess gave this person to me?"

I was unable to talk.

He got nearer and his shadow grew. "You're pathetic. Weak. An omega. Do you know how many she-wolves throw themselves at me? And I get stuck with a trembling mouse?"

Tears welled in my eyes.

"I... I didn't choose this," I whispered.

He gave out a harsh laugh. Are you sure you think I would accept you as my Luna?

I broke inside even before he could say what was on his mind.

"I reject you!" he said in anger. As the person who will support me through life. As anything."

The sharpness of the pain I felt in my chest was as fast as a whip. The wolf inside me made a loud cry.

And then-

He told them, "Take her below and lock her up."

I was not able to ask him for help.

I was grabbed by rough hands.

I was enclosed in total darkness.

I was lying on the cold and wet floor of the dungeon, trembling a lot and sobbing. Being so involved, I forgot to feel the cold around me.

He said no to my feelings.

That's how I feel in my heart. I found out that my heart could hurt more than I ever realized.

But worse-

Once my hand shook against my lower stomach, I understood there was something much scarier happening.

I was late.

No.

No...

Oh Moon Goddess, what have you done?
