Chapter 1 The Boss

Everybody froze as soon as their nostrils caught the scent of Alexander Blackwood's perfume. The girls stopped gossiping and quickly hid their makeup kits. Backs straightened, and expressions turned serious in an instant.

Some began typing furiously, their faces still blank and focused. The office was as silent as a graveyard except for the voices in other rooms. Everywhere was sparkling clean and the atmosphere was heavy.

The footsteps were becoming louder with every passing. The first pair of shoes to be seen made the employees jump from their seats to greet the boss. His aura was felt before he entered the room. Everything about him screamed expensive right from his hair to his shoes.

"Good morning, sir," they chorused in unison, voices crystal clear-but their greeting was met with silence. It was returned by someone else in a hushed manner.

It was Maya Leonard who returned the greeting. Her warm smile made the employees relax and return to their actual work. The ladies quickly placed their makeup kit back on the table to finish what they started while the rest went out quickly.

Alexander sank into his chair with a sigh. He powered on his computer and stretched out his hand expectantly.

His assistant looked lost so she watched his hand hanging in the air without saying anything.

"What are you doing?" A pair of cold eyes stared at Maya immediately.

"What do you need sir?" Maya asked in return. She didn't understand what he was asking for. A handshake?

"Never mind. What time is the meeting with Mr Bruno?" He asked.

"Oh! About that, Mr Bruno changed the time for the meeting already. I forgot to let you know-"

"Earlier or later?" He interrupted her.

"Later" She replied calmly.

"And why did you forget to tell me?" He asked.

"I'm sorry sir" She apologized, bowing her head to show her mistake.

"Hmm. Get Malcolm in here" He relaxed his back on his seat and added, "Tell Belinda to come with the comments on the last outfit from the post on Instagram now. I want to know the person who posted that caption too. You may go"

Maya nodded and left to carry out his order. Immediately she shut the door behind her, and she remained there to heave a sigh.

"Today is a good day," She said and walked away.

Alexander remained seated and turned his seat around to admire the city from high. He could see every part without having to get his ass up. His office was built by one of the best architect so everything was top notch and it was very important that he liked the design.

The city was buzzing as it was a Monday morning. His family requested for his presence at the dinner that evening as it was something important. Well, he heard it was important so he has to go.

He just hopes his mother doesn't have something up her sleeve. The last time, she swore to go on a hunger strike if he refused to attend any blind dates she managed to set up with many women.

There was no need for him to guess the kind of women his mother paired him up with. Some might be actresses, models, famous singers, celebrities or even any sweet girl that manages to charm her. His mother is not that hard to impress but it was his father that was the main deal.

Maybe it was true anyways. The saying goes like father, like son. It's very obvious that he took after his father. But it's just that he is too much of a character. He's extremely hard to impress and when he is, he doesn't show it.

Arrogance is also one of his characteristics. He knows what people say behind his back but guess what, he still doesn't give a fuck.

He would be thirty in two months and would need to be involved in a serious relationship by then. He has been putting his family off by telling them to give him time to get himself together but it seems like his mother was the most impatient of them all.

Again, the saying was true. His grandmother was the first person to start scheming. She set him up with his assistant. Then, Alexander didn't suspect anything. He couldn't even see that the poor girl was trying so hard to impress him, to make him fall for her, to make him have feelings for her.

The girl was also extremely good in Alexander's eyes. Always on time with projects and files that were given to her. Her dressing was top notch and her skills were perfect. But everything crashed when he found out that her original work was to make him fall in love with her not to work as a secretary.

The best part of it was that she was paid for her work. She was paid by his grandmother for her for her role and she was also paid by Alexander for her role as his assistant. Would the proverb killing two birds with a stone be perfect for that situation?

Surprisingly, Alexander was not that mad when he found out but he fired her anyways. She had developed feelings for him even before she started her role but it was nothing to write home about as the man she loved didn't reciprocate. What a pity!

Alexander met Maya Leonard about a year ago. She was out of job then. They met on the plane. She was fired from her job and was about to go home to her daughter when she met Alexander.

Coincidentally, they were seated next to each other on the plane. She was the first one to strike up a conversation when she noticed that Alexander was being unusually quiet for a human and remained stationary throughout. He was busy typing on his laptop without sparing anyone a glance. He only stopped whenever he had to sip something or pop something into his mouth.

Maya's eyes had gone to the documents in his eyes and hebegan to talk about business. Well, she managed to impress Alexander with her wide knowledge and intelligence. He may not admit it but he was impressed that day.

He gave her his business card and told her to call him if she would like to take up his offer. Then, he didn't even know she would be his assistant. He just told her that he might have a job for her. But she became his assistant in the end.

Maya was the happiest person on earth when she learnt she was now a full time assistant to the legendary Alexander Blackwood. Everything was perfect. The pay was extremely good. The working conditions were perfect. The bonuses were great and the employees were quite the characters.

It's just that the boss is a workaholic. He rarely attends team dinners. Team dinners are made to lighten up the mood and create a friendly relationship or bond between employees. They get to know themselves, they get to laugh and take whatever's on their mind off.

The females are always excited and super active whenever they hear the CEO would be attending the team dinner. They would cancel any plans they had that evening and make sure they look very pretty just to impress or just to seduce the man.

They try so hard but the man was just blind to see them. Maya would be the one to tell her boss to relax and stop bringing work-related matters to discuss at team dinners. Team dinners are made to get to know each other and have fun not to create a heavy atmosphere.

The employees become tense whenever he brings up work. So, whenever he's not there, the employees have a jolly moment and go home after gossiping about everything.

Alexander's eyes became dark all of a sudden as he picked up his phone to look at what was trending. His company just released a product - an outfit. The target was the female gender. Women would do anything to get a product that would look nice on them. Anything to get sweet compliments from their partners, friends, families, and even strangers.

Their enemies might even show interest as long as they think it would suit them better and that was what was supposed to happen. It was a caption that ruined it all. A caption saying, "If an outfit like this can seduce the almighty Alexander Blackwood, what's stopping you from seducing your partner with this?"

Alexander's eyes had furrowed with annoyance when he saw the caption that morning. Funny enough, it has been there for a very long time but he just had the time to check out the official page for his business handle. His eyes had lacked emotions when he saw it.

He was annoyed but he said nothing. That was the scary part of Alexander Blackwood. He goes silent when he is mad. He just stays mute and acts like all is well. He won't say anything unless he wants to talk. And when he talks. Oh gawd! It's a nightmare.

A faint knock was hard on the door but Alexander pretended not to hear it. The person can continue standing out there or could knock louder like a sensible person.

A smirk appeared on his lip when the knock became sharper.

'Better' His thought aligned with his expectation.

"Come in" He ordered and loosened the tie on his neck.

Three employees walked into his office. One hung her head low while the others marched forward.

"Good morning sir" They chorused in order.

"Malcolm, check on Hue now. I got you somebody from Spotlight. You'd see him on the second floor. He's pretty good so you should meet him," Alexander directed his gaze to the male. "His name is Cole Allen"

Malcolm's lips remained pursed as he was deep in thought. How did his boss get someone from Spotlight so soon? In less than 24 hours? How did he get the person to come over to the company instead of having him go over to their company?

His boss keeps surprising him. He's just too much of a man!

"What? You've got it under control?" Alexander raised his brow when Malcolm remained rooted to the floor. He didn't move. He just stared into nothingness.

"What?" Malcolm looked around as he jerked out of his subconsciousness. "Oh, no, no. I'm going to get him now. Thank you for-"

"Belinda and...Vivian" A wide smile stretched on Alexander's lips that made the ladies' legs become jelly.
