When shy, soft-spoken Ivy Monroe moves to a remote town in Washington to escape her overprotective parents and begin a quiet life of study, the last thing she expects is to lock eyes with a stranger who radiates danger. Damian Thorn is dark, magnetic, and completely untouchable - a high-ranking werewolf with a reputation for breaking hearts and following no rules but his own. But when Ivy crosses his path, something ancient stirs. Something forbidden. As blood moons rise and strange disappearances haunt the town, Ivy is pulled into a world she never believed existed - one of primal instincts, savage rivalries, and secrets that could kill her. She was just here to study psychology. Now she's the obsession of a creature who shouldn't feel anything. And in his world, love can be a curse. In a town where the forest watches, the blood moon calls, and monsters walk in human skin... some secrets are better left buried.

Chapter 1 Welcome to Blackwood

The rain had a rhythm in Blackwood, soft and steady like a secret being whispered through the trees.

Ivy Monroe stood at the edge of campus, her umbrella clutched in one hand and her suitcase in the other, staring at the looming brick buildings rising like shadows against the gray sky. The air smelled like wet pine and old stone - like something older than the town itself was watching.

It was beautiful. And cold. And absolutely nothing like New York.

Her parents had cried the night before she left, her mother reminding her to call, her father pretending not to worry. But Ivy wasn't the kind of girl people feared losing. She was quiet. Careful. The kind of person who let the world move around her while she stood still and tried not to take up too much space.

But here, in Blackwood, nothing felt still.

The town was small, nestled between a forest that stretched for miles and a lake that locals claimed never froze - even in the dead of winter. People spoke in hushed tones about "the woods," but Ivy had brushed it off as superstition. Just folklore. That was the kind of thing her minor touched on - myths, monsters, stories people told themselves to make the world feel less ordinary.

She had no idea how wrong she was.

Ivy's dorm was a short walk from the main hall, a weathered old building with ivy creeping up its stone walls. Her roommate hadn't arrived yet, which suited her just fine. She needed time to unpack and breathe.

And figure out why the hairs on the back of her neck wouldn't stop standing up.

It was later that evening, during orientation in the campus courtyard, that she saw him.

He didn't belong here. That much was obvious. While other students huddled under umbrellas or jackets, he stood alone in the rain, black hoodie soaked, head tilted like he was listening to something no one else could hear.

His eyes - dark, sharp, inhumanly still - locked onto hers.

Ivy looked away quickly. Her heart stuttered.

"Don't stare," someone murmured beside her. A tall girl with a nose ring and a nervous laugh. "That's Damian Thorn. He's... complicated."

Ivy blinked. "He goes here?"

"Sort of. He's local. But he shows up when he wants. Mostly to cause trouble."

As if hearing them, Damian smirked - just a little - then turned and walked toward the woods behind campus.

The fog thickened.

Ivy didn't know why she followed him with her eyes.

Or why, for the first time since arriving, she felt like something had just changed inside her.

Something she couldn't name.

Something that smelled like rain, earth...

...and blood.
