In a parched land where the sky has long since sealed its tears, a young woman named Lira discovers a relic said to summon lost memories of the rain. As whispers of ancient storms begin to stir in her dreams, she is drawn into a journey across a cracked and crumbling world-a journey to awaken the forgotten waters and uncover the truth behind the drought that has cursed her people for generations. With every step, the scent of rain-long buried beneath dust and silence-grows stronger, guiding her toward secrets buried in the earth and in her own past. "The Scent of Forgotten Rain" is a haunting tale of memory, resilience, and the quiet hope that even the most broken lands can bloom again.

Chapter 1 Before the forgetting, the world remembered rain

It wasn't just water-it was memory. And when it fell, it whispered secrets to the roots and the rooftops. Every droplet held echoes of laughter and loss, of stories long buried in the soil. People once danced in the streets when the first storms came after summer, lifting their faces to the sky like sunflowers in reverse. Children splashed through puddles as if leaping into liquid wonder. Artists painted storms with pigments borrowed from thunderheads.

But then came the Silence. No one remembered how or why. The sky stopped crying. The rivers stiffened into lifeless ribbons of stone. And people-well, people forgot they were ever wet. Forgotten were the words for "monsoon," "drizzle," "torrent." Forgotten was the sigh of saturated earth and the hush that comes before lightning.

In the city of Virelia, the air had grown stale. Buildings stretched like dry bones toward a lifeless sky. Concrete jungles had never known the scent of moss or the shimmer of dew. The government, known only as The Bureau, outlawed any mention of rain. They called it sedition. Madness. They said remembering the rain was the first step toward drowning in delusion.

Yet one boy remembered.

His name was Elian.

He wasn't sure why he remembered or if his memories were real. But in a world starved of rain, even a drop of wonder could cause a flood.

And so, the flood began with him.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.
