Chapter 1 Pilot

Romeo Carson's eyes were lit in shock as he stared at the man in a navy blue suit who was standing at the glass wall with his back to him. The man happened to be David Lennox, CEO of Lennox Industries, and also his father-in-law.

"Sir?" Romeo called in confusion.

David Lennox turned to face him with a grim look. His long blond hair shined in the morning sunlight that bathed his office. He looked like a Hollywood model and Romeo felt that would have been his area of expertise rather than being a billionaire. He felt it meant to be his calling.

"Didn't I make myself clear?" He asked before walking back to the glass desk which Romeo sat behind.

"I said you're fired!" He exclaimed.

Romeo clenched his jaws for that. A few minutes ago, he had been called into his office and he thought that David was finally ready to talk about his promotion. His wife, Sophie was also pressuring him to consider giving him a higher position in the company.

Romeo felt he deserved it because he had worked his ass off day and night to make sure that the company was run properly. But now he was getting fired for my apparent reason.

"Why?"

David leaned off the glass desk and began chuckling which angered Romeo. He was used to being treated this way by his father-in-law. He had no regard for him ever since he had become part of their family.

Romeo had always been maltreated and abused by David and of course, Sophie couldn't do anything because he was her father. She was always told that he was overreacting, which had hurt him every single time.

"Isn't it obvious? Or you're trying to act dumb?" David asked.

Romeo cranked a brow at him in genuine confusion.

"I have no idea about what you're talking about," Romeo replied stiffly.

David sighed and shoved his right hand into his pocket.

"Well. If you want me to bring it down to your level, fine," he said, reaching for a file on the desk.

He opened the file and brought out a big brown envelope placing it before Romeo. Romeo looked at the envelope still confused.

"What is this?" He asked.

David leaned forward and a mischievous smile flashed across his face.

"Why don't you see for yourself, Romeo?"

Romeo picked up the brown envelope and tore the seal reaching into it. He pulled out a document and started at it. When he realized why he was looking at them, his eyes lit up with shock.

He looked up at David who was now staring at him with his arms folded. Romeo furrowed his brows at that and dropped the document back on the desk.

"What is this supposed to mean?" Romeo asked.

"It seems you don't understand what's written there or have you suddenly lost the ability of comprehension?"

Romeo clenched his jaws. This was a setup. The documents showed evidence of him embezzling funds from the company and injecting it into hideous crimes like drug trafficking.

"You believe I would do such a thing?"

David unfolded his arms as he chuckled.

"Romeo. I'm the CEO of one of the most sought-after companies in the country. Of course, I trust nobody. That is why I'm here to ask you why you did this?"

Romeo scoffed and leaned back against the chair. He knew that David had been trying to get rid of him from the very first day he had become a member of their family. And he was about to get his wish.

"I would never steal from you," he said. "I've worked my ass off to save this company several times. Why would I want to steal from it?"

David moved back to the glass wall with his hands behind him where the sunlight bathed his blond hair, highlighting it.

"Well, you've been bugging me for a promotion and I have been declining every single time. Maybe you finally got fed up and decided to take matters into your own hands."

Romeo scoffed at his words once more.

"It's clear that I'm being framed here."

David spun to face him with his brows furrowed.

"Are you calling me a liar?"

Romeo clenched his jaws. He hated that he had to be this submissive if he wanted to keep his highly unlikely job. All he wanted to do was to punch the smug smile off his face, but that would only add more fuel to the fire.

"No sir."

David nodded and walked back to the glass desk.

"You're lucky that I didn't call the cops. I don't have you to taint my family name, so I'll let you off the hook this one time."

"You're letting me stay?"

David arched an eyebrow at that.

"The guards would help you get your things, so you won't have to go through the stress of packing," David replied, before taking a seat behind the desk.

"I don't know why you're doing this to me, but I promise you this isn't over," Romeo said.

David chuckled and placed his hands on the glass desk as he leaned forward.

"Is that a threat, Romeo?"

Romeo clenched his jaws. He could feel his blood boiling. This would be the perfect time to land that fist on his nose but what would be the cost of that? He could lose more than he had already lost today. It would be so reckless and stupid and he was none of those.

And so he relaxed his fist and sighed.

"No, sir."

Behind him, the door opened and two guards dressed in their uniform came into the room with a brown box. Romeo turned around and found them standing with him with the box. He turned back to David who was smiling at him.

"You can leave now," he said.

Romeo clenched his jaws and rose from the desk, collecting his box from the men. He walked towards the door thinking about only one thing.

How was he going to tell Sophie this?

"Oh, and Romeo?" David called.

Romeo halted at the door and turned back to him.

"You were wrong. It is over," he said.

"And I won."
