Arya Snow, a struggling but ambitious writer, dreams of making her mark in investigative journalism. When the opportunity arises to go undercover and dig up secrets on reclusive billionaire Kian Grey, she accepts-hungry for her big break. But a spontaneous one-night stand with him before she realizes his identity turns the assignment personal. As she enters Kian's world under false pretenses, she discovers that he has secrets that could ruin more than his reputation-secrets that others are willing to kill for.

Chapter 1 The Assignment.

"You want scandal?" Arya Snow raised an eyebrow, setting her coffee down with a soft *clink* on her editor's desk.

Leonard Marks, the editor-in-chief of *Reel World*, leaned back in his worn leather chair, the same one he'd been sitting in the day he told her she was "too soft" for the real stuff. But this morning, he looked far too pleased with himself.

"I want gold," he said. "Not recycled gossip. Not Instagram headlines. Something raw. Private. Untouchable."

Arya frowned. "Then maybe you should ask Marcie. She lives for this."

"She's out," Leonard replied.

Arya blinked. "Out? But she's your go-to."

"She's planning a wedding and says this kind of assignment would 'ruin her romantic glow,'" he said with a dramatic eye roll. "She'll be on half-speed for the next two months."

Arya's heart pounded. This was it - the kind of assignment she'd been quietly wishing for. She'd spent years writing about color trends, designer knockoffs, and why glossy boots were back in season. But this? This was something big.

"I'll do it," she said, quickly, maybe too quickly.

Leonard looked at her for a long second, amused. "You?" "Yes. I know I've never done something like this, but I can. Give me the subject. I'll prove it."

He leaned forward, hands folded, skeptical. "This isn't a dress review, Arya. If you screw this up, we get sued. Or worse - we look basic."

"I won't screw it up," she insisted. "I can handle it. Just give me the chance."

A pause.

Then he slid a thin black folder across the desk.

"Don't say I never gave you anything."

Arya picked it up, opened it - and froze.

*Kian Grey.*

CEO of GreyTech. Billionaire. Reclusive genius. Publicly charming, privately unknown. No scandals, no exes, no weaknesses - at least none that anyone had ever gotten close enough to find.

Arya stared at his photo. The man didn't even smile in pictures, yet there was something electric about him. Sharp jaw. Cold storm-colored eyes. Precision in every line of his tailored suit.

Leonard continued, "No one's cracked him. Not even Forbes. Not even Vanity. You want your big break? Dig into the man everyone pretends they understand but no one really knows."

"How am I supposed to even meet him?" she asked.

"That's your job to figure out."

Later that afternoon, Arya sat on the edge of her desk, staring at Kian Grey's empty file as if it would bite her. Her best friend and fellow writer, Lara, leaned against the cubicle wall, arms crossed, lips tight.

"So let me get this straight," Lara said. "You're going to pretend to be someone else and infiltrate the life of a man who literally bought out two magazines just to keep a single photo unpublished?"

Arya cringed. "That was one time."

"Exactly. And the photographer still can't find work."

Arya sighed, closing the folder. "Look, I know it's crazy. I'm not even their best writer. I've only done fashion pieces, profiles, puff stories. This is the first time I've been offered something *real*."

"Leonard didn't offer it," Lara corrected. "You begged."

Arya looked down. "I want more, Nina. I'm tired of writing about handbags. I want a story that matters."

Lara softened. "I get that. But Kian Grey? He's not just rich, Arya. He's powerful. Strategic. If he finds out what you're doing..."

"I'll be careful," Arya said.

"You might end up hated by the public," Lara warned. "You think people won't come after you if you mess with their tech god? And you know how messy the internet can be,your career, your life with just his word"Arya's chest tightened. She'd thought about it, of course. But the idea of *finally* proving she was more than a byline under "Seasonal Style Trends" and the fact she might get a promotion felt worth the risk.

"He's very impossible to access unless you're in his circle, and I just have to find a way to get in there." Lara added.

Arya opened the folder again and stared at the short list of people Kian allowed into his life. A few business partners. His lawyer. A single PR contact. And a personal assistant with a six-month NDA.

Impossible... unless she slipped in through another angle.

She looked up slowly. "But what if I wasn't a reporter?"

Lara blinked. "Excuse me?"

"What if I posed as someone else? Someone... non-threatening. Someone who could be hired."

Lara's eyes narrowed. "Like who?"

Arya's lips curved into a plan she wasn't sure she had the guts to follow through on. "A fashion designer."

Lara groaned. "That is the dumbest-and possibly most brilliant-thing I've ever heard."

Arya gave a small smile, heart pounding. "He's redoing his penthouse, apparently. Word is he's looking for someone fresh. Under the radar. And we both know I can be good for that work"

"And you think you can convince him you're a designer?"

"I know enough. I can fake the rest.Just hope my childhood dream will help me this time around"

Lara leaned closer, lowering her voice. "You do realize who you're digging into, right? Kian Grey. Billionaire, guarded, ruthless. Also... too handsome to be real. Like, unfairly handsome.Lord knows why his father decided not to speak of him till he became CEO"

Arya raised an eyebrow. "That's your concern? His jawline?"

Lara smirked. "I'm just saying, if you end up staring at him too long and forget your mission, I won't blame you."

Arya smiled, though her stomach fluttered with nerves. "I won't forget. I can't."

"You are my best friend you should support me,"

"Oh!! Yes,yes support your mission to hell"Lara smirked again.

"You're seriously going to lie your way into a billionaire's life?"

Arya's smile faded. "Not for the story. Not entirely. For me. I need to know I can do this."

"And what if you fall for him?" Lara asked quietly.

Arya paused.

"That's not going to happen."

But the way her stomach flipped as she stared at Kian's picture told her it might already be too late.

*Prologue – *Ashes and Memory** The scent of smoke clung to Maya Kingston's skin like guilt. She stood barefoot in the street, eyes wide, watching her childhood home burn. Flames licked through the roof like greedy hands, black smoke curling into the night sky. Red lights from the fire truck cast eerie flashes across her face. Neighbors whispered behind fences, but none dared come close. They all knew the house. They all knew who had died there. And who still refused to leave. The fire hadn't taken her this time. But it had tried. Wrapped in a thin blanket, Maya barely registered the cold or the paramedic's questions. All she could hear was the past-echoes of her mother's laughter in the kitchen, her father's voice calling her for dinner, her little brother's feet pounding up the stairs. Everything she fought to preserve... gone in a single night. Her fingers trembled as she clutched the only thing she managed to save - a scorched photo of her family, edges burned but faces intact. The police said it might've been faulty wiring. But Maya knew better. This wasn't an accident. And deep down, she suspected the truth. Someone had tried to erase her. Maybe because of the surrogacy. Maybe because she was carrying *his* child. Maybe because someone else wanted the heir she was now protecting inside her. She pressed her palm gently to her stomach. "You're all I have now," she whispered. The fire crackled behind her. The past was gone. But Maya Kingston had survived too much to burn easily. And this time... she wouldn't go down without a fight. *Plot:* Maya Kingston is drowning in grief and debt after losing her parents and younger brother in a tragic accident. Their house - the only thing left - is on the verge of foreclosure after a loan taken under her father's name. Desperate, Maya accepts a high-paying surrogacy contract from Spencer Callahan, a wealthy heir whose father is on his deathbed and demands a child be born to him before Spencer can inherit the family empire. Maya becomes his surrogate. Their agreement is strictly business - no feelings, no drama. But when Spencer's manipulative ex, Ivy, returns claiming to be pregnant with his child, Maya's safety - and the baby's - becomes threatened. Ivy's jealousy escalates into violence, forcing Spencer to protect Maya by moving her into his home. As Maya and Spencer begin to bond, secrets unravel, and trust becomes fragile. Just when Maya thinks she's found stability, she discovers the truth: *She's not carrying Spencer's heir. Someone else is.* --- *Climax:* Maya and Spencer grow close as the pregnancy progresses, and just as Spencer is about to publicly claim Maya and the baby, *the truth surfaces*: the embryo implanted in Maya was a mistake. *A mix-up occurred at the fertility clinic*. The real biological child of Spencer - his heir - was born years ago from a previous, secret relationship he never followed up on. This revelation breaks Maya emotionally and reignites Ivy's schemes. --- *Anti-Climax:* Ivy kidnaps the real heir - a child Spencer unknowingly fathered with Ruby, Maya's best friend. Spencer, torn between guilt and responsibility, distances himself from Maya. Maya, feeling used and betrayed, decides to leave after giving birth, thinking she was nothing more than a vessel to a man who never really saw her. --- *Ending:* Maya delivers the baby and, despite the child not being Spencer's biological heir, he chooses to raise both children - his real son and the surrogate child - as his own. He realizes Maya gave him more than bloodline - she gave him strength, healing, and love. Spencer tracks her down, confesses everything, and asks her to come back - not as a surrogate, but as his partner. Maya returns, not for the money or the child... but for herself. --- *Major Plot Twist:* Maya is *not* the biological mother of Spencer's heir - *Ruby is*, through a one-night relationship that Spencer abandoned out of fear of his father's disapproval. Ruby's son is Spencer's true heir, not the child Maya carried. --- *Plot Overview:* A grieving woman takes a risky surrogacy deal to save her home, unknowingly stepping into a powerful family's web of legacy, lies, and betrayal. Her client, a cold billionaire with a broken past, is desperate to secure his inheritance through a child. But when old lovers return and secrets unravel, Maya learns that love - and motherhood - is far more complex than blood. In the end, she must decide what family truly means... and whether she can still find her place in it. ---

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
