A blind date brings more to Tess's life than she bargains for. What happens when she finds out her lover, Logan is keeping secrets from her? Not just any secret but one that could shake the world, entirely "otherworldly". Tess finds happiness by chance but not everything is as it seems. She finds herself accepting the fact that she is dating a werewolf. While she struggles to adapt to her new life, dangers lurk in the shadows when an enemy from the past comes to haunt them. Will Tess and Logan's blooming love be enough of a weapon against their enemies or will they have to crumble before unravelling who or what wants their downfall?

Chapter 1 1- Howling wolves.

"Yeah, like no thanks. Why would I want to know all the tidbits of how you spent your night with Will? Just because he is back in town?" Tess asks incredulously.

The brunette next to her swirls on her creaky chair to give Tess a disapproving look.

"First of all, rude; you should be glad I am willing to give you some tips. Secondly, it is not because of his return, I gush about him all the time," Clara says with a shrug.

Although Tess knows her friend did not mean to sound demeaning, she still feels a pang in her fragile heart. Clara's relationship with William is everything to be envious of; the man treats her as though the very ground she walks on is gold. Tess craves that kind of attention.

The people that the woman has gotten the chance to welcome into her life all turned out to be assholes. The last dumped her just because she refused to wet his d**k that early in the relationship.

"What are you thinking about, Tess? Why don't we finish work and get to your place? I am certain that Will won't mind."

Tess smiles with beaming green orbs, "a sleepover?"

"You bet."

The two lasses were forced to focus on getting the task at hand done, lest they face the fury of their boss, Mrs. Greggs.

The last thing either of them want is a query. The clinic is not big, but they get animals every day, so they are always busy.

Tess stops administering an injection to a sick cat and listens; she thought she heard a howl. The blonde woman pays no mind to it knowing it must be coming from the forest lining the area.

On the other side of the forest, sitting in a dark office, a young man also pauses upon hearing the howl.

'Rogues spotted at the East border. I am in the West, so I will be late.' Logan's beta mind-links him.

Logan replies through the connection, 'I will go'.

The male sighs as he stands, not having prepared for the stroll; this is the job of his Gamma, but the Alpha has not the slightest clue where William is. He reckons he is being too soft on the Gamma.

Logan is getting frustrated with everything. To what length does he have to go before the rogues get the message that the territory is his, off-limits? The man dashes through the thick greenery in search of the intruders.

Logan reels backward, narrowly escaping a sharp claw. How did he not sense the wolf? The Alpha knows something is wrong somewhere.

He realizes he has walked into a trap when more wolves emerge from the trees, and he finds himself surrounded. The wolf standing at the forefront has blood matted to its dirty fur, and Logan stares into its crimson eyes.

The wolf snarls, showing a majority of its teeth, but does not attack; it just stands there, staring, quite audaciously, to be honest. The look peeves the Alpha.

"What are you here for?" Logan asks. He finds it odd that rogues are working together.

The wolf blesses Logan with no verbal response but with a pat of its paw, a signal to attack.

One of the wolves launches itself at Logan, straight for the head. His wide-opened mouth dripping with saliva and blood as Logan grabs it by the jaws. The alpha does not waste time in tearing the wolf in two from the jaws.

The other wolves decide to attack jointly. One aiming for his legs, the other his hands, and one his face. They mean to reduce him to shreds but the alpha moves quickly. He grabs the wolf whose claws are right in front of him and flings the wolf towards the others.

It takes down some of the opponents but the others relent. Some get into his defenses, swiping a claw at his back, his legs, and one bold wolf bites at his side.

The Alpha grinds his teeth and clenches his jaw in pain. The Alpha pushes the rogue off, but it has left a jarred long line on his abdomen, causing Logan to yelp in anguish. There goes the plan to capture at least one of them; he would kill all of them.

Logan bears his elongated nails, and with a faster pace, he slices through the rogues one at a time with practiced ease. Aiming for the heart each time. He lets out a breath when they all fall to the ground. All except one.

The leader of the rogues flees with only its tail in sight. Logan does not make chase as he is not sure whether another trap is awaiting him.

Now that the threat is gone, the Alpha looks at the damage he took. All his injuries that were supposed to be healed are still there, ever so fresh. The Alpha winces as he touches the largest gash; the one on his side.

A trip to the doctor should deal with it, but Logan feels his strength waning, so he decides to shift into his wolf, a safer form. Bones crack as he swiftly transforms into a wolf, no, a werewolf; just like the others. Standing gloriously in his dark mane, the wolf towers over all of them; perks of being an alpha.

The Alpha makes his way slowly towards the pack house, but halfway through the bushes, his vision starts having blotches, and he decides waiting for his Beta is the best option.

Tess makes her way sluggishly into her home, a one-bedroom apartment she has lived in ever since she got her first pay. She feels less of a burden to her dear aunt with her meager salary this way. The blonde spent most of her years in her auntie's house.

The day was hectic in the clinic. They had to deal with a cow having a huge splinter dug into its leg. She and her colleague, Matt, were assigned to hold the pitiful animal still while Clara worked on removing the splinter. It turns out that the cow's mechanism of dealing with pain was pooping which would have been a funny sight if she wasn't covered in cow dunk.

While she has washed most of the mess in the clinic restroom, she still heads to her small bathroom. Tess's face scrunches in disgust as she scrubs the horrible stench off her skin, leaving it pink. The woman then allows herself to rejuvenate in the therapeutic effect only a warm bath can provide.

Tess cleans up and gets into something comfortable, ready to snack and watch television all day.

.

Logan battles with his wolf for control, the beast does not welcome the idea of staying vulnerable in the open. Logan takes note that he has been antsy since he stepped foot into the forest. The wolf curls in on himself and tries to make himself smaller and less visible.

When the wind blows softly towards him, the cold air is more than welcomed as he feels himself jerk up and he races towards the end of the forest, following a scent. He tries to stop his pursuit because he knows one is not supposed to move this much with such an injury but his efforts are a waste.

Logan feels all the hair on his body stand when he spots a small house directly outside the forest. He feels a very strong pull towards the building and he does not know why. The Alpha feels his head spin and his paws dig into the ground. He makes a mental note to come and check the little building right before he feels himself lose consciousness. Logan gives a long howl to signal his pack of his location.

The howl signals his pack, and also the tired woman settled in front of her screen, watching a movie.

Tess is aware that there are wolves in this part of the state but they usually don't come this close to the edge of the thick forest. What baffles the woman is the fact that she is getting up to take a look. Tess is terrified.

She cannot explain her reasoning, she just knows that outside is where she needs to be. The thought scares her; why is she this bent on going out of her backyard?

To feel safer, the woman carries a frying pan and makes her way down her kitchen steps. Not too far from where she stands is a wolf. The biggest she has ever seen in her twenty-three years on this planet. She marvels at the size and beauty, its black fur thick and glistening.

Strangely, this animal does not cause her heart to clammer through her chest with fear. She watches the unconscious wolf for a bit and deems it safe enough to approach. Upon closer look, Tess notices a large wound on its side and blood pooling around the area, tainting the color of the grass.

"Oh no!" Tess exclaims.
