Chapter 1 Eve of the unknown

Neverland, a land of dreams filled with peace where the wind spoke softly through the trees and even the sky seemed to pause and listen as the townsfolk basks in winters glory. There lived a boy named Sam, who has a dream of becoming an astronaut, a profession not naturally sought out by most of the people in Neverland as the dream is regarded too big to accomplish still from that small age,he wanted it more than else. Sam's parent George and Mary are well respected members of the society. George is A fire fighter that has been regarded as a local hero while Mary is a nurse.

They are a quite comfortable family and they are known by most town folks. Sam admires his father a lot particularly how he commands respect from both young and old. He is loved by all. He remembered when his father took him to work and people at his work place spoke so highly of his father and some even advices him to follow suit in his father profession but Sam had other plans.

On the eve of Sam's 13th birthday, George walks into Sam's room; Sam was noticeably beaming with joy as he saw his father and he approached him to give him a hug. "What are you drawing buddy?", George asked. A rocket, Sam answered. George took a look at the notepad and smiled and like a proud father he called Sam lap that there is a rite of passage he must do for him before he becomes a teenage. The traditional has been in the family dating back to his great grandfather, that on the eve of the thirteenth birthday,a family souvenir is being passed down to indicate the mark of the teenage age as Sam has become a teenager. George dipped his hands into pocket,Sam stood up in excitement to see what the souvenir is all about, alas,George brought out an Old time Clock. Sam looking confused and somewhat disappointed asked is father what is it. George told his son that the time clock signifies a time in point when you transition into a teenager as the clock literally signifies. He then took Sam outside for a walk few minutes from their house,he told Sam to look up in the sky, George told Sam "My son, the stars are beautiful but don't forget the ground on which you step on" The true measurement of success is a self-fulfilled life. Sam didn't understand what his father meant by that word he was just happy to be our and about with his father as the winter wind whistles round the block.

Mary called out for the two of them signaling that the food is ready. Mary has been particularly known for her cooking skills, there were none that matched her delicacy. The pair headed back into the house to dine together. Then Mary began to tease Sam as she saw him earlier today looking through the window to see a neighbor across, a young girl named Maya, who recently just moved into the neighborhood. Sam protested in his defense that he merely was just looking at all nothing attached and at this point Sam is starting to blush and feel embarrassed. George came to his rescue saying," Son, how you are feeling is perfectly normal, you are becoming a teenager now and as such these are merely the symptoms of puberty nothing to be ashamed of buddy" he reassured. I've been buddy, when I was your age, had a girl i was crushing on back then in church, I never miss a church service in all my time just to see her everyday just to get a glimpse of her and that girl turned out to be your Mom here and for a moment there both couple looked into each other eyes lovingly as Mary bursted out in laughter to the story and the whole family followed suit shortly. It was a nice family dinner. Then a distress call came in requesting George presence as there has been a fire outbreak at the outskirts of the town, the voice said. George hurriedly got dressed and immediately kissed his wife and hugged Sam and told both of them to not wait for him as he might be coming home late.

George heads out at around 8pm in the night, to the call of the emergency. Sam then assisted his mom in arranging the dining and doing the dishes, Mary at that time was 5 months pregnant a new blessing soon to come into their family. Sam is about to have a junior one. Shortly after Sam heads into his room and wondered for a minute how stoic and heroic his father his that in this cold dead night,he's out there trying to save life. As Sam danced around the bed trying to get some sleep, his mind wandered to what his father told him earlier and he took the time clock his father gave him trying to make meaning of what it meant and why it's so important "the rite of passage " he muttered to himself. Shortly after, he fell asleep

Then, the land phone in the parlor began to ring,Sam woke up to the sound of the phone then he noticed his Mum picked the call then all of a sudden a muffled sound and with that came a very long silence likened to that of a graveyard. Trying to grasp what's happening he open his door as he walks down the hall way,he sees his mum siting on the floor, and the receiver limp in her hand. Mary wasn't crying but she was just starting, muzzled like she has seen the stars fall, a sensational cold shiver down his spine and with it Neverland stopped feeling like home, it became a place unknown.
