My father is a big player in the business circle of northern Myanmar, and he cares most about his business. I am the daughter of him and an undercover police officer, so my mother and I are his greatest stains in life, and he wishes he could get rid of us as soon as possible.

Chapter 1

My father was a shark in the business circle in Maloria and always prioritized his business above all else.

I was the daughter he had with a female covert operative.

He thought my mother and I were the greatest blemishes in his life and wished we could die as soon as possible.

1.

Back when my father's career was at its peak, he was full of confidence and ambition. However, he had an encounter with my mother when he was drunk.

My mother was a covert operative around him. My father discovered her true identity and secretly imprisoned her.

On the first night, Rosa Stephens, my father's wife, beat my mother badly. My mother was covered in bruises and then thrown into the basement. She developed a high fever, but Rosa refused to call for a doctor for my mother.

The fever lasted for three days, and my father finally called for a doctor as he was worried that death might ruin his business. My mother survived but lost her voice and had some mental problems.

A month later, my mother was discovered to be pregnant with me. Rosa perhaps didn't think my mother was a threat due to her condition, so she was allowed to be released and have a rest.

I was born just three months later than my half-sister, Jolie Stephens, but our statuses were worlds apart. Jolie was the esteemed daughter of the family, while I was the illegitimate daughter, who was unseemly.

My father saw me as a disgrace and totally ignored me. The servants constantly abused my mother and me to please Rosa and my father.

My mother and I lived in the basement, ate leftovers, and wore clothes discarded by the servants.

I remembered Jolie caught me once I sneaked into her birthday party to get something to eat.

In front of all the guests, she stomped on my hand with her high heel, poured champagne on my face, and ridiculed me as a worthless nobody.

Rosa was unhappy and wanted to punish me. So she gave me thirty lashes with a cane covered in sharp thorns.

Each strike embedded dozens of thorns into my flesh and caused excruciating pain in me.

Both my mother and I had suffered such punishment many times, and our wounds took months to heal every time.

My father coldly said, "A bastard is a bastard. After the punishment, break her hand so that she will remember not coveting what's not hers."

When I was eight, I had my hand broken by my father's bodyguard over a small piece of birthday cake that Jolie didn't want.

After my mother pleaded with my father by kneeling outside his office for 24 hours, he called for a private doctor to bandage my hand.

I spent a year recovering in the basement's storage room, and I barely regained my health.

That was the closest I ever came to death.

From then on, I understood that I was no different from a stray dog on the street in my father's eyes.

If I displeased him, he could kill me at any moment.

I started to read the room, try to please Jolie, and become her scapegoat and sidekick.

I served her like a servant to earn a scrap of food to keep my mother and me alive.

I gritted my teeth and waited because I knew that I could leave once I grew up.

Even if my father didn't take me seriously, he would still arrange a somewhat decent place for me to go to keep up appearances.

As long as I could leave, I could escape this hell.

I endured everything for this goal until Jolie's eighteenth birthday.

My father announced he would send Jolie to the Golden Triangle for a project, and I had to go with her as her assistant.

I felt my world collapsing after I heard the news.

My mother took me to kneel at my father's office door and hoped he would consider letting me stay in the country for my sake as his daughter.

But it was useless and even resulted in another brutal beating from my father.
