He led me into the game, and I hate him to the bone. What I once thought was a steadfast pine tree turned out to be a venomous snake.
"Let go of me! How dare you...Mmph!"
I walked step by step into Brock Hopkins's trap, which he carefully laid before I realized it.
At first, I thought he simply had feelings for me.
Later, I realized that he had lured me into his trap and hated me to the core.
What I once thought was a sturdy oak turned out to be a venomous serpent.
It coiled around me and then tightened its grip until I could barely breathe.

"Lesley, Brock clearly doesn't even take you seriously. He has always been arrogant at school. He never accepts anything from anyone, and many young girls shed tears due to him."
Hearing that, I was furious.
"Did I give him that? It was just convenient. That's all!" I stood up, walked to the trash can in the corner, and picked up the bottle of sports drink.
I twisted the cap open and poured it straight down the back of Brock's collar.
Brock didn't resist but wisely stayed still. He only paused writing with the pen.
The cheap plastic pen left a spreading blot of wet ink on the white paper, ruining his otherwise pristine notebook.
But I lost my interest. After I poured out half the bottle, I stopped and walked away.
Natural disasters frequently happened in the southern area of the country, including floods, mudslides, landslides, and earthquakes.
Over the years, my father had donated a lot of money to help people in need, so he earned a reputation for himself.
In fact, he did those things in order to pave the way for his mistress and their illegitimate son.
He wanted to sever my ties with my social circle of wealthy young men, with the excuse that he had neglected to discipline me previously and wanted to cultivate the heir to the Daves Group in a different environment.
On the third day after my mother's death, he couldn't wait any longer and left for Nighthaven.
And I was taken along with him.
Given the Daves family's overwhelming power, no one at school dared to show me disrespect, except Brock.
Brock came from a poor family, but he carried an air of unshakable confidence that made me sick.
The humid air in the southern part of the country made me feel like I was trapped in a suffocating, clammy swamp. It was oppressive and stifling.
It was raining again.
"Be quiet, everyone. This is our new classmate, Lesley Daves. Lesley, please introduce yourself to the class." A warm smile stretched across the teacher's face. It was etched with lines and creases. I had gotten used to such an expression since I was a little boy.
It gave me a sense of satisfaction. At the same time, it stirred a deep-seated disgust within me.
I put on my best social smile. "I'm Lesley Daves. Nice to meet you all."
I didn't bother saying more. As expected, the classroom erupted into applause.
Their eyes lit up as if I were some priceless, rare artifact.
Except for one person. He didn't look at me.
His expression was flat. He had straight hair, his clean-cut sideburns sharp and neat.
He was pressing lightly against the yellowed pages of his book with his two slender fingers and writing smoothly.
He was focused and elegant.
He outshone me.
Something slimy and sinister seemed to stir within me, like twisted vines clawing their way out of the earth.
Perhaps the young man sensed something, and he looked up. Our eyes met.
He frowned and lowered his gaze.
