I accidentally discovered my boyfriend's secret, and I was so shocked that I left him immediately...
When I went to my boyfriend's study to find a file, I noticed the computer screen glowing on his desk.
To save power, I meant to turn it off but saw Alexis's open messaging app, which he hadn't logged out of.
I had been eagerly planning our wedding.
Meanwhile, Alexis was in a group chat, arranging to pick up his old flame, Leigh, who was returning from abroad.

Lately, Alexis had been busy, and I sensed he was hiding something.
I thought he was planning a surprise and didn't dwell on it.
That day, he called me in a rush, saying he'd left an important file at home and needed me to bring it to him.
I found the file quickly in the study, grabbed it, and started to leave, but a notification sound from the messaging app stopped me.
Puzzled, I turned back and saw the computer screen still lit.
A group chat named "Three Musketeers" kept flashing with new messages.
Intending to log Alexis out, I glanced at the latest messages.
"Alexis, Leigh's back. You're picking her up? What about your girlfriend?"
"Seriously, Alexis, I heard you're getting married. What about your goddess Leigh?"
"Haha, Alexis, better keep it quiet! Don't slip up. You've been planning for Leigh's return forever."
A string of playful emojis followed.
I frowned, steadied myself, and scrolled down with the mouse.
I'd never heard Alexis mention any old flame and usually ignored his friends' teasing.
But as I scrolled, his response made my heart plummet.
"Enough, guys. You know the deal."
That single sentence confirmed their words.
I didn't know what drove me to keep reading.
A new message popped up.
"What about your girlfriend?"
"Yeah, Alexis, what about Justine?"
And how did Alexis respond?
"Justine's great, but compared to Leigh, she doesn't measure up. Besides, you know I'm stuck in the middle right now. Justine can help me get to a better place, good enough to stand by Leigh's side."
I couldn't pinpoint the emotions that carried me to Alexis's workplace.
On the way, I replayed our past, only to realize it wasn't as perfect as others claimed.
Honestly, it felt awkward.
What had his friend said? "Aren't you afraid Justine will ditch you and walk away?"
And Alexis's reply? "No way. She's crazy about me."
I mulled over those words, picturing Alexis's confident expression through the text.
He must have been so sure of himself. No one would believe I could stop loving him or end things, because I had been head over heels.
I left the file at the front desk downstairs and messaged Alexis that it was there.
I stared at his profile picture.
After what felt like forever, so long I doubted I'd sent the message, Alexis replied. "Got it."
Just one word. In the past, I might have brushed it off.
But now, I couldn't help but wonder. Would Alexis respond this way to Leigh?
Probably not.
Still, a stubborn spark of hope pushed me to type one last message.
"Tonight's our anniversary. Are you coming home? We're about to get married, but I don't want to miss the days we've shared. They're special."
After hitting send, I collapsed into the study chair, clutching my phone so tightly my fingers turned white. The wait gnawed at me.
At the same time, I stared at Alexis's messaging app on the computer, knowing the answer deep down but betting against it, hoping he still cared.
In the end, I lost. Completely.
