Chapter 1 A chance at love

"How could you???, After everything we been through together. If you didn't love me, why marry me", says Juliet in despair after finding out Maurice cheated on her with his first love, Anna and they both have a child.

Anna and Maurice have been childhood sweetheart. They were inseparable. Their love knew no bounds but the unexpected happened. One fateful day, Maurice found a note on the table, he opened the note and read the content which says, " I am sorry, please move on without me". He turned to know who the sender was, it was from Anna." This has to be a joke", he says as he quickly checked the wardrobe, it was empty, her clothes were no where to be found. He picked up his phone to try call her, it was switched off. Reality dawned on him, she was gone and never coming back. A sharp pain struck his heart, it felt like his heart was broken and shattered into pieces. His life was crumbling into pieces. Anna meant the world to him. He had visioned his life with her. They both planned their future together but now it seems that would only be a dream.

Maurice tries to pick the pieces of his broken hearts. He found it hard to move on as each day that passed, the thought of Anna crossed his mind. He stared at her pictures and wondered what could have made her leave. They didn't fight or argued. They always communicated their feelings to one another, so what changed.

It's a new day, the sun sets out in it's glory, one could hear the chirp of the birds in the sky. Maurice stood up from bed to prepare for the day. Actually he was on leave. Maurice is an engineer who works for a construction company. He goes to the kitchen to prepare breakfast but discovers he had ran out of groceries. He quickly stepped out to the market to get things.

At the market, while walking, he mistakenly bumped into Juliet. Juliet is a teacher who works in a school. " I am so sorry" says Maurice as he helps pick up the groceries that fell.She also bends down to pick as well. Their hands meet, they locked eyes with each other which followed with a long silence. Juliet coughs, as she steps backwards, "it's fine, thanks".

"Do you stay around, you look familiar?, he asked trying to figure out where he had seen her.

Yes, just two blocks away and I don't think we have met", she says.

" Anyways, it was nice meeting you. We did see around again".

" How sure are you?", Juliet asked.

" It's said, if two souls meet once, they are bound to cross paths again and again". He says.

She smiles, " you do watch too many movies, don't you?".

" I have to get going, bye". They bid themselves as both went their separate ways.

Just as if fate had it planned, their paths kept crossing. They started hanging out with each other. They spent quality time calling, texting, going for movies and dates. During this moment, one could tell Maurice had moved on. He enjoyed spending time with Juliet. She helped filled a void in his heart and fixed the broken pieces of his heart. He felt an empty space anytime he didn't hear from her. He knew he was incomplete without her. That moment it dawned on him that he had feelings for Juliet but deep down, he feared for the worse, what if Juliet leaves him just like Anna did. Was he willing to give love a chance again?.

On the other hand, it was evident that Anna was in love with Maurice. The first person that comes to her mind in the morning was him and when she ends the day was him as well. She feels restless when she doesn't hear from him. She begins to question, " what is this feeling I feel when he is close to me?, my heart races at the sight of him. Could I be in love?, what if he doesn't see or feel the same way I do", many thoughts feel her mind. Suddenly, her phone rings, it's Maurice. Just seeing his name alone on her screen, her heart skipped a beat. She picks up, " hiii, how are you doing".

" I am fine. Do you have plans tonight?", he asked.

Uhmmm, not really. Hope everything is ok?", she asked wondering.

" Yh, all is fine. I just thought of having you over for dinner. I did love to try out my cooking skills to you, you know" he says teasingly.

She laughs, " show off, it did better taste good"

" Is that a yes"

" Yh", she says as she couldn't hold the excitement. She starts to make preparation.

Evening came, Juliet stands in front of the mirror as she adores herself dressed in a short blue tiny sleeveless gown which complimented her feminine statue, matched with a sliver heel on her leg, her hair packed in a bun. She looked extremely beautiful.

Maurice sitting as he anticipates her arrival. The table was designed with all manner of food coupled with wine and dinner candles. One could tell he went all out for this.

Could this be an ordinary dinner or was there something more to this?.
