I stared at the pregnancy test result in my hand in shock. I wasn't expecting to get pregnant again after what happened last time. How did this happen?
I bit my nails nervously, wondering what to do next. Should I tell Ronan? I can't! I can't let what happened before repeat itself. The memory of the last time I told Ronan I was pregnant still sent shivers down my spine.
Even though it's been three years, it's still fresh in my memory. I can't forget the cruel words he said to me when I gave him the news.
"A weak and wolfless mute like you can never bear my child, the future Alpha of our pack!" I still remember the darkness in his eyes as he glared at me like I was a criminal.
And to him, I was. I was the reason his life was ruined. If I didn't exist, he wouldn't have been forced to be with a mute, weak Omega. He would've been with Seraphina, the love of his life. Not that they aren't still together now.
But it wasn't my fault. I didn't choose to be paired with him by the moon goddess. I didn't choose to lose my memory, my voice, and my wolf at such a young age.
Even though he spends most of his time with Seraphina, he still despises me. Despite everything I've done to be a good wife these past five years, he treats me like I'm nothing. We weren't always like this. I still remember when I first came to this pack, even though it feels like forever ago.
I was only eight, the last surviving member of my pack after a rogue attack took my family, my voice, and my wolf. Ronan's father, who was best friends with my dad, brought me in.
The Blackthorn family welcomed me everyone except Eliza. I was bullied for being mute and wolfless, but I endured it because of Ronan. He protected me, cared for me like a little sister, even stood up to Eliza for me. But everything changed when I turned eighteen and found out he was my fated mate.
"Why the hell is it you? Everything's ruined!" he'd roared, his eyes wild. Instead of happiness, he only felt rage when he realized we were bonded.
His words cut deeper than any blade. I'd always loved Ronan. I was thrilled to be his mate. But he wanted nothing to do with me.
He was already in love with Seraphina, a beautiful, capable Beta's daughter, the perfect Luna. I couldn't blame him.
I was ready for rejection, but no one expected Ronan's father to demand, as his dying wish, that Ronan marry me if he wanted to become Alpha. That was the start of Ronan's hatred.
For five years, I've hoped he'd warm up to me. That he'd love me. But I was just a mute Luna,a source of shame. He kept me hidden. No one even knew I was his wife, so I was treated with disrespect by everyone, even the servants.
I was lost in my thoughts when the bedroom door opened. I panicked and quickly hid the pregnancy test in a drawer before stepping out of the closet.
There stood Ronan, staggering and red-faced. Drunk. I rushed over to help him.
The moment I touched him, sparks flew down my spine and my core warmed. I was ashamed, but I couldn't help it he was my mate. But only I felt it.
He loathed my touch when sober. I struggled to get him to bed and collapsed on top of him from the effort.
Feeling his body against mine stirred butterflies in my stomach. Maybe it was the hormones making me crave him more than ever.
But then I saw it a lipstick mark on his neck. Seraphina.
I swallowed the hurt and helped him lie down, removing his shoes. I offered him water to sober up, but he suddenly shoved me, splashing water all over me.
I gasped. As I bent to clean up, he grabbed my wrist.
Confused, I looked at him. Then he pulled me onto his lap. What was going on?
His eyes were red again ,our bond. I followed his gaze and saw that the water had soaked my nightgown, outlining my body.
I tried to leave, but he gripped my chin and kissed me hard and painful. He bit down on my lips like he wanted to tear them.
Then he pushed me on the bed, tearing off my clothes. Completely exposed, I braced myself as he ravished me with bruising kisses and bites.
He undid his belt and pants, and without warning, thrust into me.
Ronan was always rough. I'd always suffered in silence during sex. But this time, I tried to resist afraid for the baby. That only made him rougher, more forceful.
If only I could speak tell him how I felt. But mute and wolfless, I could only cling to him and endure.
It lasted until dawn. He released inside me multiple times before finally pulling away and dressing.
His eyes had cleared. "Just because I slept with you doesn't mean I'll ever acknowledge you as my Luna." My heart twisted. I couldn't reply.
"Seraphina will always have my heart. Don't ever forget that," he said coldly and left.
A single tear slid down my cheek as the door slammed.
It wasn't the first time. It wouldn't be the last. But it still hurt.
I curled up on the bed, sobbing silently. Why was this my life? Was I unworthy of love because I was mute and wolfless?
I looked down at my belly, gently placing a hand over it. At least I wasn't alone anymore.
Whether Ronan ever loved me or not, I had my baby now. And I would survive for us both.
