"I hate you," I spat, fists clenched so tightly my nails dug into my palms. Zane Carter just smirked - that same reckless, devastating smirk that had haunted my dreams and fueled my nightmares. He stepped closer, so close I could feel the heat radiating off his body, the scent of his expensive cologne and pure danger curling around me like smoke. "Keep telling yourself that, princess," he murmured, voice rough and mocking. "But your body knows better." My heart pounded against my ribs, anger and something far more dangerous swirling inside me. How had it come to this? How had I - Arianna Monroe - ended up shackled to the one man I was born to despise? If someone had told me months ago that I'd end up married to Zane Carter - the arrogant, reckless playboy, the heartbreaker with a smile that could destroy nations - I would have laughed in their face. And yet here I was. Trapped. Tangled. Burning. And it was only the beginning.

*Beneath her confident exterior lies a compassionate heart.

*

*

Zane Carter -24 years old

The infamous son of the Carter's empire, filthy rich, international pop rock-star and media obsession.

Personality: Arrogant, impulsive and emotionally closed off.

*Playboy to the core doesn't believe in love, just lust.

Sofia Delgado-21 years old.

Role: Arianna's best friend.

(Arianna Monroe )

The clinking of silverware echoed through the grand dining room, but my appetite was long gone. I poked at the grilled salmon on my plate while my parents exchanged knowing glances over their wine glasses. Something was off. The air felt thicker than usual, like it was laced with a secret waiting to drop.

"Ariana, darling," my mother began gently, folding her napkin with careful precision. "Your father and I have something important to tell you."

Here it comes. My stomach knotted.

"You're getting married."

I blinked, once. Twice. "Excuse me?"

"To Zane Carter," my father added with a calm finality that made my blood run cold. "The eldest son of the Carter family. The engagement is already arranged. It's for the best."

My fork slipped from my hand and hit the plate with a loud clang. "The Zane Carter? The musician?"

"The very one," my mother replied, like she'd just told me I won a raffle, not had my future sold off.

I stood up, heart racing. "You can't be serious. I'm only twenty-one, I'm in college, I have a life!"

My father's voice turned stern. "This isn't up for debate, Ariana. This is about legacy, unity-"

"Control," I snapped. "You think I'll just marry some arrogant playboy because it's good for business?"

"You'll learn to get along," my mother said softly, trying to placate me. "He comes from a respectable-"

I stormed out, ignoring the rest. The sound of my heels echoed against the marble floor as I ran to my room. The moment the door shut behind me, I collapsed onto the bed, tears slipping down my cheeks.

They think I'll marry him quietly.

They think I'll fall in line.

They clearly don't know me.

(Zane carter)

The knock on my studio door came right when the beat dropped. Typical. I pulled off my headphones, already annoyed. I was deep in a new track, and nothing pissed me off more than being interrupted.

"Zane," came the housekeeper's voice, "your father wants to see you. Now."

I rolled my eyes and stood, grabbing a black T-shirt off the armrest. If this was another lecture about my "image," I was walking out halfway.

His study looked the same as always-dark wood, expensive whiskey, and the constant scent of power. My father was at his desk, suit crisp, expression unreadable.

"This better be quick," I muttered, dropping into the chair across from him.

"I've made a decision," he said. "You're getting married."

I let out a short laugh. "That's funny. Try again."

"I'm not joking."

I stared at him. "You've finally lost it."

"It's already arranged. Her name's Ariana Monroe. From the Monroe family."

The name rang a bell-rich, polished, socialite blood. But that wasn't the point.

"You want me to settle down with some spoiled heiress just to improve our business ties?"

He met my gaze. "I want you to stop wasting your life on clubs, groupies, and scandals."

I leaned forward, voice low. "You don't get to control how I live."

"I do when our family's reputation is on the line."

Something twisted in my chest. This wasn't about me. It was about them-the empire, the image, the headlines.

"I'm not a goddamn puppet," I snapped, standing up.

"You'll meet her soon. Don't embarrass me."

I didn't respond. Just stormed out and slammed the door behind me.

The name echoed in my mind: Ariana Monroe.

Who the hell was she? Was she pretty? Sweet? Another stuck-up brat?

Whatever. I didn't care.

I wasn't marrying anyone.

And that's final.
