I dated Chen An for two years, but just half a year after our wedding, he sent me to the underworld. On that day, my childhood friend Li Zimu happened to be in the car with me. The brakes failed, and he held me tightly in his arms to protect me. He died on the spot, while I fell into a coma. In the hospital room, I watched helplessly as my closest friend poisoned the IV drip. I was powerless to stop it, quietly waiting for death to arrive.

Chapter 1

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on the day of the marriage discussion, facing Henrik Holland's parents, who were only interested in their benefits, and Neil Morley, who wore a cold expression throughout.

I didn't know why Neil insisted on coming with me when I was discussing marriage in my previous life.

Now, I knew the reason.

"The housing prices are so high recently, Violet, don't you have a house? Once we're all family, we can just live together. When you have kids, I can help take care of them. The price of gold is so high now, let's not buy the full set of gold jewelry, just the essentials. Save the money to make your wedding more extravagant, so everyone can be impressed." Henrik's mother said, seeing my lack of response, she became even more brazen.

The reason why she wanted to hold a lavish wedding was to let others know that her son had married the boss of a listed company.

They only bought me basic jewelry because I wouldn't be wearing it at these weddings and no one else would see it.

I was still basking in the joy of being reborn when I heard Henrik's mother say these things. I lowered my head and chuckled softly.

She thought I agreed with her and smiled smugly.

She thought I loved her son very much.

"Let's set the wedding date for the second day of next month."

I was about to mock her when Neil spoke first. "Even though Violet's parents have passed away, she still has me. Aren't you being disrespectful?"

Considering my dignity, Neil spoke with much restraint.

"Who do you think..."

Henrik's mother was about to speak, but was stopped by Henrik.

"Mr. Morley, you're taking this too seriously. My mother didn't mean any disrespect to Violet. Marriage is a big deal and should be discussed thoroughly, otherwise, our families wouldn't be here, right? Violet, what do you think?"

I had to say that Henrik was eloquent, and he immediately put all the focus on me.

If it were before, I might have agreed hastily.

But now...

"Henrik, let me ask you, have you ever betrayed me?" I suddenly asked, catching a flicker of panic in Henrik's eyes.

"Violet, what do you mean by that?"

Tears welled up in my eyes as I choked out, "You know exactly what I mean. I won't spell it out today to save you some dignity, but this marriage discussion ends here."

Sensing the tension between us, Henrik's mother quickly stood up and moved to the empty chair beside me, trying to pat my hand affectionately.

I placed my hand on the table instead.

Henrik's mother smiled awkwardly and withdrew her hand that was suspended in the air.

"Violet, you and Henrik can discuss this at home. We've come all this way, and we can't leave without resolving anything."

I clenched my fists and looked at Henrik, asking, "Henrik, do you want me to say it in front of your parents?"

I didn't have any evidence yet, I just wanted to test him.

As expected, Henrik was scared, regardless of what I might say.

My emotions were a little out of control, and Neil quickly stood up and protected me behind him.

Looking at Neil's tall figure, I realized that since my parents passed away, he had always been by my side. "Since Violet hasn't made up her mind, please leave for now."

Henrik took his mother's hand and whispered, "Mom, let's go home today. I'll discuss the marriage with Violet another day."

But Henrik's mother wasn't easy to persuade. She stood with her hands on her hips, looking at Neil with disdain. "Are you calling off the wedding because of this despicable man?"

Neil's veins bulged with anger, and just as he was about to act, I picked up my phone and called Neil's assistant.

"Arnold, please call security up here."

"Alright."

In no time, Arnold arrived with two security guards.

Henrik looked at me with a hurt expression. "Violet, what's wrong? Are you kicking me out?"

"Not only am I kicking you out, but you shouldn't come to the office tomorrow either." Without waiting for him to say anything more, I nodded to signal Arnold to take him away.

Watching Henrik's retreating figure, I let out a cold smile.

This was just the beginning.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
