He's my stepbrother. My worst mistake. My biggest obsession. It started as a game-stolen glances, whispered threats, a dare we both knew we'd lose. Caleb was off-limits, but that never stopped him from pushing me closer, from making me crave the one thing I should never want. Now, every touch is a risk, every secret kiss a betrayal. My boyfriend knows I'm slipping away. My stepfather is watching too closely. And Caleb? He doesn't care about the consequences. He wants me. I want him too. But how long can we keep this secret before it destroys us?

Chapter 1 A NEW HOME, A NEW TEMPTATION

Lena stood at the foot of the grand staircase, her suitcase heavy in her hand, staring up at the towering walls of the Hayes mansion. The mansion loomed over her, stark and imposing, its sleek glass windows reflecting the late afternoon sun. The house was beautiful in a way that made her feel small, swallowed up by its cold perfection. The kind of beauty that was too pristine, too polished-almost unreal.

She hated it already.

Her mother, Victoria, practically floated through the foyer, beaming with excitement. She had already begun the process of unpacking, her voice a high-pitched melody as she hummed her happiness. This house, this life-this was everything Victoria had dreamed of. And now, it was everything Lena had to accept.

Victoria had married Richard Hayes only six months ago, and the whirlwind of their romance had swept them away into a life of wealth and luxury. Moving to this grand estate was just one of the many changes that Lena had been forced to adapt to in the past year.

"I can't believe how beautiful this place is," Victoria gushed, setting down a vase of fresh flowers she'd brought with her. "It's just perfect for us, Lena. Don't you think? So much space, so many rooms! You'll love it here, I promise."

Lena gave a tight-lipped smile, nodding in response. She wasn't unhappy for her mother, but she wasn't thrilled either. Victoria was on top of the world, and Lena was struggling to catch up. Her old life felt so distant now-the old apartment, the familiarity of their small kitchen, the chaos of her high school days. Everything had been simple then. Now, nothing seemed familiar. Nothing felt like home.

As Victoria continued unpacking with an energy Lena couldn't match, the sound of footsteps broke through her thoughts. Heavy footsteps, slow and deliberate. The sound of someone approaching, someone who wasn't excited about this new life.

Lena turned, and her gaze locked on him.

Caleb.

Her stepbrother. He stood at the doorway to the hallway, his tall figure casting a shadow over the room. His dark hair was tousled in that effortless way that seemed to make every strand fall just perfectly out of place. He was dressed casually in a black t-shirt and jeans, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. His eyes were dark, and his expression was unreadable as he looked at her.

For a brief moment, their eyes met-intense, charged. It felt as if the room had grown smaller, the air thicker, as though some invisible force was pulling them together in that quiet moment. But then Caleb's gaze flicked to Victoria, and just like that, the tension dissipated. His indifference returned.

"Caleb," Victoria greeted, her tone bright and welcoming. "This is Lena, your new sister. I'm so glad you two will finally have the chance to meet. I think you'll get along just fine."

Caleb didn't smile. His lips barely twitched. Instead, he gave a short nod, his eyes flicking back to Lena before quickly looking away. Without a word, he turned and walked toward the hallway, his footsteps echoing through the house.

Lena stood there, frozen, her heart hammering in her chest. What had just happened? The air between them had crackled with something-something unspoken, something forbidden-but he'd acted like it meant nothing. Nothing at all. His coldness cut through her, but beneath it, there was something darker. Something dangerous.

Her breath was shallow as she turned to Victoria, trying to shake the strange feeling settling in her stomach.

Victoria, oblivious to the moment that had just passed, beamed. "You know, Caleb can be a little distant at first. But don't worry, you two will get along just fine. He's just adjusting to the idea of having a sister. But he's a good guy, really."

Lena wasn't sure she agreed. Caleb's quiet presence left an imprint on the room, but his silence made it impossible for her to figure him out. There was something about him-something in the way he moved, the way his gaze lingered for that brief moment-that made her heart skip. She couldn't explain it. But she could feel it.

Victoria's voice broke through her thoughts. "Come on, I'll show you to your room. You'll be sharing a bathroom with Caleb, so I hope you two can figure out how to make that work. I'm sure you'll get along great."

Lena's stomach tightened at the idea. Sharing a bathroom with Caleb-her stepbrother-wasn't something she was ready to process, but the idea of being close to him, sharing space with him, filled her with an uneasy excitement she couldn't shake.

As they walked up the stairs, Victoria continued talking about how wonderful everything was going to be, but Lena's mind was elsewhere. Caleb's face-the way his eyes had held hers for that moment-kept replaying in her mind. The tension between them had been almost palpable, and it had unsettled her in a way she couldn't explain.

Was it just her imagination, or had there been something there? Something dark, something dangerous.

She wasn't sure she was ready to find out.
