Chapter 1 The deathly deal

The thing about Adrian Russo's den was that, whoever was dragged in there, walked out with everything.

Fear, pain, a broken hand, a detached leg, everything but their dignity.

Sadly, Avan had lost his dignity a long time ago, he was drunk, so he didn't understand the seriousness of this summoning.

He sat slumped on the thick rug his nostrils blocked from the stench smell of very hard drugs.

"Sit up straight arse, the kingmaker would be here soon," one of the guards said.

Just as he finished, commotion at the door had all of the men scrambling for a seat.

A tall mysterious looking man stepped in, immediately he did, the atmosphere changed and all men were quiet.

The kingmaker walked over to the table and sat on the edge, looking Avan straight in the eye.

A small valet ran over to him and handed him a pipe.

Adrian picked it up and the valet drew out a lighter and lit the other end. It caught and he puffed on the cigar.

Avan wasn't in his consciousness, so he wasn't scared for his life the way the other men were on his behalf.

"Avan, Avan, Avan Carillo. What will I do with you?" Adrian asked, and he took a long drag of the cigar.

The thing about Adrian Russo was that he could draw the last breath of air from you while smiling at you.

He was manic and cold, some even claimed he sold his soul, but only Adrian knew what he was and what he had stemmed from.

The rumors had it his father had been an equally scary man.

However, he had been crazy about it, he went about with women and smoked the largest cigars.

He joked a lot, and of course he had died by a woman, his wife was very much alive but he had walked into his own death in a hotel room.

He had been on top of a woman thirty years younger than he was.

His heart had failed him, it was the most pathetic way for a person to die.

Adrian wasn't lively, and hardly had any women around.

He walked with his convoy of men and carried himself with ease and cold austere air, the kind that demanded respect:

"It's a generational debt Adrian, let it go," Avan responded and that made Adrian laugh, a chorus of 'ohs' filled the room and he leaned in.

The Kingmaker didn't laugh, he hardly even smiled.

"Avan, you have been stealing from Russo empire, it's hard for the retail team not to notice the pinches of thousands of dollars."

He proclaims, yet again another rare thing, he didn't say a lot of words.

Only a few knew he was stress reacting, there was a leak in the tech department.

His oppositions were closing in on him, it wasn't good for any branch of his empire, and he knew that.

"Not like you care! Leave my family alone, you lots have done enough!" Alan shouted.

As though on command five hands descended on him, beating him and punching him.

"Stop." Adrian ordered and moved away from the counter, he stood up and placed his cigar back on the tray.

"Your debt is 200,000 dollars away from a million dollars. What do you plan to do about it?"

Alan sniffled, most of his face was swollen and he was;

"I don't know! I don't even have anything of yours! If I had that large amount of money, my life would be good,"

Adrian was disgusted, the man was pathetic.

He had enough backstory and kisses with wealth to make him rich forever but he had thrown it all away.

Throw it all into cheap booze and a lifestyle of a bird, gambling and drinking.

"Don't bore me, Alan," Adrian said and picked up his cigar once again, he walked to him and bent.

His head was bleeding and even that had not somehow snapped him to consciousness.

He blew out the cigar smoke in his face, making him cough, his eyes were red and he just wanted to return to his shaft.

"I don't have any means to pay you Adrian, what do you want me to do? Is there anything I have that you want?"

Adrian paused, it was questions along this line he had been waiting to and slowly, they were getting there.

"You tell me, do you Abeg anything of value? Anything I would want?"

Alan laughed, he stood up on unsteady feet and all of Adrian's men charged at him but Adrian held them away.

"Don't play those games with me, I know your scopes, I know your whims, you want something from me and that's why I'm here"

"You don't care about the money I've been taking!" He yelled, his spittle flying all over the place.

He was drunk at night and could collapse anytime soon.

"You are not exactly wrong, I wouldn't say you're right either." Adrian said and puffed on his cigar again.

"What do you want you filthy Russo!"

Alan screeched as though he wasn't actually owing a million dollars, money stolen and wasted.

The men immediately gave him heavy slaps, Adrian had to stop them completely from doing anything else.

Adrian needed to save the Russo syndicate, anyway he could, any lie he could go and the thing was, he would.

Even if it meant silly negotiations and dropping decades long debts.

"I have been doing my research, and something you have has indeed caught my eyes, it's unlikely but it's true."

"I despise the dramatic pause," fifty five years old Alan growled again, and Adrian smiled.

"Your daughter. I want your daughter." Adrian said, it sounded outrageous, it was outrageous.

Of course, Alan would disagree and act like he wouldn't consider that but it was going to be an act. He was shameless like that.

Alan's hands shot out and rammed into Adrian's face. "Son of a bitch!"

Adrian remained where he was, and allowed him to force rage.

Throwing hands and shaking frantically, he waited for the act to end because he knew it would.

"Why do you think I will agree to that? To give my princess out to you this fucking wolf! Hell no!" He continued, and Adrian loved quickly, pinning him to the wall.

"Calm down and look at me," he grounded and Alan did.

He was somehow in himself again, the sad part was his drunken self and normal state was not so very different.

"You don't know my daughter! My princess would never agree to something as crazy as being your freaking concubine!" He yelled, it was true, Adrian had heard all about the damsel.

She was said to be strong willed, but she also had something he needed, a tech brain.

"Who said anything about concubine? This is the deal Alan, in the next one week, if you don't make a down payment or you don't pay it all..." He paused with an evil grin.

"We would take your daughter until you pay up, if you have decided to be reasonable you can see me and we will discuss more favorable terms." Adrian muttered.

The eyes of every man in the room was seated on both of them, all witnesses of their interaction.

Alan shook his head, it was weaker now, lacked the strength and aggression it had earlier.

He was caving in. "She is not the kind of woman you can force into anything, it's not my princess!"

"We'll see about that Alan, a week!"
