Chapter 1 ROOTS OF DECEPTION

Some people grow up surrounded by love-messy, unconditional, the kind that holds you even when you don't deserve it.

Eve Carter and Caleb Sinclair learnt that love is just a word of disappointment

Their worlds were nothing alike. Their lives should have never touched.

But fate doesn't care about should or shouldn't.

And by the time they met, they were already doomed.

EVE

Eve Carter never believed in the word love.

Because she had watched her mother fall in love over and over again, only to end up crying at the kitchen table, with the same excuses. "He's just scared, baby. He just needs time."

Time never changed anything, the men still left, the bills still piled up, and Margaret Carter still loved like a fool-so blindly, so completely, that Eve grew up wondering if her mother loved the pain just as much as she loved the men who caused it.

By the time Eve was fifteen, she had already promised herself two things:

She would never fall in love with a man who didn't deserve it and that she won't be a mother

And for a while, she didn't.

She went to college, moved to the city, and built a life that didn't rely on anyone but herself. She worked as a freelance illustrator, designing book covers and commissions for clients she'd never meet in real life. It wasn't glamorous, but it was hers.

Her apartment was tiny, her fridge was mostly empty, and sometimes the loneliness crept in late at night when the world was too quiet.

But it was better than waiting by the phone for someone who would never call.

Better than love so she thought.

Then she met Caleb Sinclair.

And everything she believed about love-and about herself-began to unravel.

CALEB

Caleb Sinclair was raised to believe that love was nothing more than leverage.

His father, William Sinclair, was the kind of man who shook hands with politicians, smiled at cameras, and ruined people's lives before breakfast. He didn't waste time with emotions. He owned people. Controlled them.

"People only stay loyal when they're afraid to leave," his father used to say. "Never forget that, son."

Caleb never forgot.

His mother, Eleanor, was a different kind of tragedy. She played the role of the perfect wife, wearing silk dresses and diamonds like armor, smiling at charity galas while her husband just ignores and kept her aside like an expensive painting decoration.

Caleb saw the way she faded over the years. The way she shrank herself to fit inside a life that was never really hers.

Promise me, she used to whisper to him late at night, when the house was silent. "Promise me you won't end up like your father, he had promised but deep down he knew better.

By twenty-eight, Caleb had built a life exactly the way his father had taught him to-with charm, power, and just enough lies to keep people wanting more.

He knew how to be exactly what people wanted him to be. He could make women fall in love with a smile, win deals with a handshake, and walk away from both without looking back.

Love? was just a game and currency to him, not until he met her

Until Eve Carter walked into his life and made him wonder what it would feel like to stop pretending.

THEIR WORLDS COLLIDE

Eve didn't believe in love.

Caleb didn't believe in honesty.

They should have never met. But one ordinary night, in a place neither of them was supposed to be, they did.

And neither of them would ever be the same again.

Because the thing about love is-it doesn't ask for permission.

And the thing about lies?

They don't stay buried forever.

For as long as Emily can remember, she has wanted to overcome her shyness and explore her sexuality. Still, everything changes when she receives an invitation to visit one of the town's most prestigious BDSM clubs, DESIRE'S DEN. On the day she chose to peruse the club, she noticed three men, all dressed in suits, standing on the upper level, near the railing. Despite her limited vision, she persisted in fixating on them. Their towering statues belied the toned bodies concealed by their sharply tailored suits-or so she could tell. The hair of two of them was short and dark, and the third had light brown-possibly blond-hair that reached the shoulders. The dark, crimson background incised their figures, exuding an air of mystery and strength. They stood in stark contrast to the unfiltered, primal energy that pulsed through the club. Shocked by the desires these men aroused in her, she was disappointed to learn that they were masters seeking a slave to divide and conquer. She couldn't afford the fee, and she also realized that they were outside her league. Emily hurriedly left the club, feeling disappointed and depressed, unaware that she had also caught the group's attention. A world of wicked pleasure, three handsome men. Over the years, they have lived a life of decadence, their lavish lair serving as a stage for their most sinister desires. But despite the unending parade of willing subjects, one woman sticks out. A mysterious stranger with white porcelain skin and a killer body, a slave, a name with no address, the first lady to attract their eye and they will go to any length to obtain her no matter the consequences.
